My mom passed away in 2012 from COPD and I took care of her for many years. While caring for a chronicly ill person I learned to be especially careful about preventing exposure to germs. This included boiling and then filtering water; maintaining cleanliness and pest control which was especially hard to do without the use of pesticides.
But I had to learn how to do it first!
And that took time and a great deal of nonlinear research. The public is tragicly ignorant about the Zika threat and that is the fault of the federal government which has shamefully played politics with this issue.
With half of our politicians denying climate change and getting the vapors over anything regarding sex I'm really afraid of what will happen next summer and future summers since Zika can be sexually transmitted (think spring break in Floridian and then those kids heading back to college to possibly spread it to others) and that scientists are still learning about modes of transmission.
Knowing our government it will take a near herculean effort just to get blood banks to standardize the test for Zika among the host of other diseases they test for. This could turn out to be just as big a disaster as AIDS was.
Those in government will have blood on their hands.

It's the GOP that's blocking anti-Zika virus funding. It's just more of their budget games. A price tag can't and shouldn't be put on good health.
