Thank you sooo much, Thom, for reminding us of this! Sure, many Dems have been somewhat corrupted by the $$ they needed to get elected in our corrupt system…too many haven’t been nearly bold enough. However, we have a 2 party system, and we can either vote for Dems, who do still care about democracy, or vote for Repubs, who are working actively and with too much success, to end it. Not voting because one is “fed up” or disappointed by the system we are living under is a totally irresponsible choice. Voting is a civic responsibility, never more important than right now. If it weren’t dangerous for Repubs for folks to come out and vote, they wouldn’t be trying so incredibly hard to make it impossible to do so. The SAVE Act would be a death knell for access to voting for many millions of Americans. It must fail in the Senate and we should all call our senators about it! AND, all of us have to vote in the midterms, period, and vote for whatever Dem name is on the ballot. Some aren’t bold enough, some are less deserving than others, but any ‘Democrat will be better for average Americans than any Republican, and that’s the truth…has been for years.

The SAVE Act (Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act) is really the "Save the Steal Act," intended to make Americans feel that the opposition party is working to rig the 2026 elections by using noncitizen voters despite exhaustive studies disproving such an assertion. Republican-dominated states are being extorted to undermine opposing votes by redistricting.
If Trump wins by only 1 vote, it will be proof of a landslide endorsement of the superiority of White Billionaires, entitling them to Rule America. If Trump loses, despite his efforts to discourage opposition voting, then he will challenge the election results and avoid impeachment while his courts struggle for years trying to determine who the real winner" was.
What disturbs me most is the pretense that any of this has to do with governing. If it did, Trump and his toadies would not continue to take a chainsaw to our federal and local governments, and worse, our national defense and our economy. Before Trump, there was no need to make America Great Again because it was the dominant power on the planet. Today, Trump has alienated all nations by attacking their free trade through tariffs. Then Trump publicly insulted every American ally, an action that also negatively impacts our economy and national defense.
What Democrats should start doing is passing out BLUE ballcaps that say "Make America Great Again" as a reminder that in one year, Trump has successfully undermined our democracy, our global standing, and worst of all, our economy.
Just a 100% endorsement here, Thom. I only hope it's not too late to prevent what would be a very uncivil war and the destruction of our country. The morbidly rich who survived, and most of them would, would prosper from the chaos. That is what we are fighting--the immense power money has in our country and the world. To restate our assignment, we absolutely must find ways to persuade non-voters to vote, fence sitters to get off the fence, and every possible person eligible to vote for the one and only party which has the potential to take down the authoritarian fascists and plutocrats, oligarchs, and kleptocrats in November. This message should be condensed down to letter-to-the-editor size (150 -250 words) and sent regularly via letters and social media posts repeatedly, at least once a month until the election. Flood the zone. Be a pain in the neck or some other part of the anatomy. Attend protests with big beautiful signs. Speak at every opportunity. This is class war and the wealthy class are more than ready to steamroll over us if we let them. They have abandoned democracy and it is long past time to stop pretending that compromise and capitulation will get us anywhere. Do or die.
