I’ve never done this before, but this is as critical a moment as was the passage of the Enabling Acts in 1933 Germany. Here’s the email I got this morning from Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez:
Thomas,
Please call your Senators right now.
The continuing resolution that will be voted on in the Senate today codifies much of this chaos that Elon Musk is wreaking havoc on the federal government.
It sacrifices and completely eliminates Congressional authority in order to review these impulsive Trump tariffs that he's switching on and off.
And on top of that for folks who are concerned about effectiveness in government, this Republican extreme spending bill removes all of the guardrails and all of the accountability measures to ensure that money is being spent in the way that Congress has directed for it to be spent.
It sacrifices Congressional authority and it is deeply partisan.
It is almost unthinkable why Senate Democrats would vote to hand the few pieces of leverage that we have away for free when we've been sent here to protect Social Security, protect Medicaid, and protect Medicare.
Thank you for taking action today,
Alexandria
I also recommend you read Josh Marshall’s post over at Talking Points Memo, in which he calls Chuck Schumer a “weak man and a fool.” https://talkingpointsmemo.com/edblog/black-thursday-in-the-democratic-senate-an-explainer
The phone number for the Senate is 202-224-3121. Let them hear from you!
Thom
They got to Schumer, he never has been worth a dump, the wimp, but Trump and Musk have got to him. I heard his b.s. excuse last night on Chris Hayes. That if they don't pass the CR, Trump will use it make bad things happen, if they do pass the CR Trump will use it make the same bad things happen and this time some of it will be embodied in law.
Schumer is a traitor, a coward, complicit and/or corrupt. The Senate Democrats need to dethrone him.
The fallacy in his statement is that Whether the CR is passed or not, Trump is going to make bad things happen. He knows that, so what is his real motivation?
He was gainst passing the CR, till yesterday. They got to him, the self serving coward.
I’ve been calling multiple senators all morning— and getting through. Here’s hoping the numbers are piling up and they’ll do what they should. Wrote them all yesterday, too. Do it, folks . Strength in numbers!
