Excellent summary of how we got to Citizens United and a sitting pres who celebrates the acceptance of bribes openly. trump and the oligarchs have ushered in the gilded age all over again, but this time the american public is less educated, less articulate, and less motivated to push back. after 91 million people failed to vote even after seeing J6, it's pretty clear things have to get much, much worse before the masses care enough to make them better. i'm not sure what the trigger point will be; if watching a violent coup attempt wasn't motivation enough, what the hell will be?

It would seem to me that Justice Black's remarks in his dissent in the 1937 case would have more legal validity than a court clerk's headnote to a case in 1886. But it's the general corporate tilt to the judicial system, and to the wealthy, that pushes legal decisions in the oligarchs' favor. In the rare instance of a progressive, reform-minded court, such as under Earl Warren, the cry among the fascist oligarchs was to impeach him.

The law (meaning Constitution, precedence, rulings) are very simply , a buffet, a smorgasbord. we have been deluded, brainwashed to beleive, that they actually mean something when in reality is "Justice for us, the law for the rest".The U.S. legal framework aims for "equal justice under law", but stark disparities frequently persist in how the justice system impacts marginalized communities, the wealthy, and the working class.

Corruption has occurred to one degree or another throughout history.

This situation was obviously a solid stepping stone.

However the very blatant corruption of this Trump regime seems to infiltrate every area of government.

It results daily in pushing down regular working Americans and re elevating the oligarchy in our Country.

It almost seems the more corruption there is , the more it seems to be ‘ acceptable’.

It is not acceptable , it is criminal.

We're becoming desensitized to corruption.

I don't know about desensitized, but we are certainly more disabled in what we can do about depersonifyng corporations. Thanks to people like Thom and articles like this, we are more enlightened, but because almost all of the legal mechanisms (and especially his Supreme Court) are now under Trump's thumb, we are now basically powerless to change anything.

Thom, Yet another brilliant example of the weak defense of 14th and 1st amendment by our ACLU and Public Citizen, etc. to use Supreme Court history against corporate power..

It's ironic that the Santa Clara case is central and now the Techbros in Santa Clara valley and oligarchy are still using the same fraudulent case..

Why don't the Progressive defenders have your knowledge and passion?

Blessings and prayers to you...
