I think the Democrats would be well-advised to focus on restoring competent governing in contrast to MAGA nincompoop ruling. The Democrats have demonstrated more than once that they are not interested in passing a single payer healthcare program, and certainly The Affordable Care Act is proof positive as that was effectively the opposite of single payer which privatized the healthcare system and had us funneling our tax dollars through the government to subsidize the profits of the health insurance conglomerates. Yes, I have a supplemental insurance policy because Medicare doesn't pay enough for some procedures, but I have had several very expensive surgical procedures (totaling greater than $100,000) that cost me nothing. My only real cost is prescriptions, plus the cost of my supplemental policy. But Medicare for all could be set up so that a supplemental policy wouldn't be necessary.
Medicare for all isn’t a good idea. It isn’t something to fight for because Medicare is just plain bad for patients. Everyone on Medicare must also purchase a “supplemental insurance” at a rate of at least $200 per month and Medicare only kicks in after that benefit is exhausted. To advocate for Medicare for all is to know nothing about what it is like to have to rely on it. You can’t. USA needs something that works! Not more of the ineffectiveness we already have.
Thom is not talking about today's Medicare, which surely is complicated and costly. I think he is referring to MY health care insurance - DOD Tricare For Life - which pays for everything, and I do not get turned down for anything - surgeries included.
