With solar and wind, for the first time in human history, we are creating energy without burning something, and without human or animal muscle. that would be a revolutionary development in civilization. Predictably, though, the party of protecting Neanderthal petro-privilege want to keep us suffocating in our own deadly pollutants.

I wish Michael Ruppert had lived to see this. 12 years later all his warnings and predictions are coming true.

Trump or shall I speak of the elephant in the room, Netanyahu's insane war, has netted the oil companies insane profits, and the Trump family and insiders a whirlwind.

Trump's handler, Putin, is benefiting greatly as the price of oil and gas, has gone through the roof, just in time for him to fund his genocidal war against Ukraine.

However Zelenskyy put the hurt on him, by attacking refineries, which reduces the supply of diesel and armies run on diesel and true to form, Trump comes out begging to demanding that Z stop attacking diesel refineries.

A lot is made of the world runs on oil, but actually it runs on oil's product giesel. Marine diesel moves the worlds trade, container ships, tankers, the trains that deliver products from port to warehouse run on diesel. The trucks that transport stuff from wholesaler to retailer run on diesel.Diesel is even more important, more critical than gasoline.

Here is how a refinery works. Oil is pumped into a cracking tower, where it is heated, the heat breaks it down

• Joint Production: Crude oil is heated and separated in a distillation tower. Gasoline and diesel naturally separate at different boiling points from the exact same batch of crude. You cannot isolate and produce only one without the other.

• Fixed Ratios: A standard barrel of crude oil yields a relatively fixed proportion of products—typically about 45% gasoline and 30% diesel, with the remainder going to jet fuel and other hydrocarbons.

• Tied Output: If a refinery increases its crude throughput to make more gasoline, it inherently produces more middle distillates (diesel) as well. Conversely, cutting back on refinery runs to manage surplus diesel inventory will also reduce the total output of gasoline.

Anyway, the constriction in the supply of oil, has been a boon for oil companies, speculators and especially the Trump family.

They have been making a fortune on the futures market, on Fridays he would threaten Armeggedon, and then on Mondays he would talk of a deal

What’s your take on the “futures” marketeers being disconnected from the actual physical amount of oil ? (being moved, extracted, refined, etc.). Assuming they are disconnected.

Quote from 1931; “I’d put my money on the sun and solar energy. What a source of power! I hope we don’t have to wait until oil and coal run out before we tackle that.” This is on a picture of Thomas Edison holding up a light bulb. I had solar panels installed on my roof coming up on ten years ago. Well worth the investment for me. And I’m in central Florida. PS; and Edison might have had ADHD. Not a curse, more likely a gift. Too bad the greedy profiteers didn’t listen to him.

I really liked your article today Mr. Hartmann. I have felt this way for years. This is an observation and hopefully not a criticism. I have the impression that government in Europe is held in much higher esteem than in the US. I can't remember when anybody in my circle ever said anything positive about the government. Actually you may have hit on something here, or at least woke me up to the reality of the US citizen's hatred of the federal government or any government for that matter, In my eyes is rampant.

With that in mind it's become impossible for the US to move forward with any beneficial improvements to mankind's well being. I can't remember who printed this very recently,it's likely it was Paul Krugman or Robert Reich, but they explained that China has never been at war, while the US has only a few years that we haven't been at war. Billions and billions of dollars have been spent on wars in the US. Meanwhile we don't have universal medical care because we can't afford it, not to mention that the overall mentality of the US is that all the "government" would do is screw it up and make it more expensive. It works the same with fossil fuels. The mentality is that electric everything can't work. There are all kinds of objections that get generated of why it won't work. What happens when the wind doesn't blow? What happens when it gets dark? what happens when it's cloudy? It kills too many birds. Elon Musk even stated that only a moron thinks that energy from hydrogen will ever work. So, when it comes to funding anything that involves renewable energy the push back is insurmountable in getting anything passed in US government.

It works for climate change as well. A few years ago there was a late snowfall in Washington DC. There was republican senator from Oklahoma that walked into the senate chamber with a snowball and threw it on the senate floor and said "there's your global warming!" Proof that even US Senators are too God Damned stupid to comprehend the difference between climate and weather.

The lack trust in government, science and trust in the actual evidence of what's really going on around us will kill us all not just AI. Paul Krugman, among others I'm sure, say we need to get rid of billionaires if we want to have democracy. I couldn't agree more. When people elect people and not businesses elect people we will move on to the business of government helping people - not businesses.

Smitty has not only shot himself (and US) in the foot, he has shot himself (and US) in the head. Two entirely different GSW's with two entirely different prognosis.

Not only did he do a number on fossil fuels, he has sped up, just as you have so articulated, electrification. And, like a true buffoon,, has done nothing but made China the "happoest place on earth." What the Chinese build, in terms of an electric automobile is spectacular for 35-45k. Trump, er, Smitty, has hastened the coming of BYD to a theater near you.

Such exquisite irony.

In historically short order, we’ve risen as a world leader and then fallen more and more behind. Corporatism and its insatiable demand for return on equity continues to obscure our descent. It’s hard to see how it, and we, can last, especially since neither of our ruling political parties has any visible inclination to seriously address what ails us.

You need to take down "alcoholic" from your description of Trump, Thom, unless you have ironclad evidence of it. You're asking for a defamation suit you would lose, otherwise.

Ok, I see that you're referring to Hegseth, but your sentence is ambiguous and can be read as referring to Trump.

Thom was referring to the Sec. of inDEFENSE-able tattoos Hegseth. Not 47. Remember, and Thom knows this, POtuS does not drink.
