How Could We Let the Betrayal Happen?
How could we let the betrayal happen,When Russia’s shadow stained our sky?
Hear the iron boots on the marble floor,
Hear the whisper from the East grow loud…
There’s a deal in the dark with a foreign hand,
And it’s breaking the back of this proud, proud crowd.
I saw a man raise his hand to swear
He’d defend this land with grace—
But the moment power touched his throne,
He turned toward another face.
And the Kremlin’s smile grew wide and cold
As our allies backed away—
While the man we trusted sold our voice
For a tyrant’s will to sway.
How could we let the betrayal happen,
When Russia’s shadow stained our sky?
How did we watch as a leader we chose
Left our freedom out to dry?
Oh, the cost is carved in the heart of the nation,
And the wound is bleeding still…
How could we let the betrayal happen—
Or are we learning now against our will?
He called it “peace” while Ukraine cried out,
He praised strongmen with iron fists.
The truth bent low under foreign weight
As democracy clenched its wrists.
And the voice of America trembled thin
While he echoed another’s command—
As if the star-spangled banner itself
Was slipping from his hand.
How could we let the betrayal happen,
When Russia’s shadow stained our sky?
How did we watch as a leader we chose
Left our freedom out to dry?
Oh, the cost is carved in the heart of the nation,
And the wound is bleeding still…
How could we let the betrayal happen—
Or are we learning now against our will?
But a rising roar shakes the broken ground,
And the truth sparks fire again—
For the people hold the final power,
Not the deals of corrupted men.
And the night may try to swallow us whole,
But we’re stronger than the storm—
For America belongs to those
Who keep her spirit warm.
