State’s Attorney Generals and Secretaries of State, along with 40 or more legal organizations are preparing and will challenge Trump’s election fuckery. In my state of Oregon we have voted exclusively and securely by mail since 1998. Since then we have had 2 GOP Secretaries of State in charge of elections and there has NEVER been accusations of fraud. Our current SofS is a fearless Democrat who was the first to refuse to turn over the sensitive, private data on voters to the illegal demands of the Trump administration. Oregon and 26 other states pushed back and won in court against that overreach. We will keep suing Trump, and we will keep winning. Democracy is a fight worth fighting!!!

Thanks to Greg Palast we have been forewarned of what may come to pass. Of course there will be lawsuits filed to stop their illegal actions which will take months to unravel in our slow motion court system. Eventually cases will get to our six loyal and dedicated supreme court members who will decide in Trumps favor. Game over?

If this happens the only remedy is Revolution 2.0 , but Americans would rather acquiesce than stick their neck out and experience risk and discomfort.

And so we slip into the 4th Reich of the rich.

Am I wrong?

As Timothy Snyder says “most don’t have a lot of courage, but we all can have a little courage.” It was collective courage that defeated Orban in Hungary recently, and it will be collective courage that defeats Trump, his billionaire’s oligarchy, and fascism.

You are correct, so is Snyder, but the US differs from Hungary. Hungary had one election, the US has 51 elections. Hungary has one culture, one economy, the US has many cultures and many economies. And by culture I mean, for instance, Maine and SC, even NY and California two completely different cultures, then travel to Florida, LA, TX, MS, AL, GA and again different cultures

Also Peter Magyar, basically created the TISZA party, out of the FIDESZ party. Magyar is still right of center, just not as right of center as Orban. big difference being that is anti Putin, unlike Orban who is a Putin acolyte. He is also more liberal culturally, Péter Magyar's government has taken a cautious, moderate approach to LGBTQ+ policies, shifting away from the aggressive anti-LGBTQ+ stance of his predecessor, Viktor Orbán, while avoiding a full embrace of progressive reforms.

Yes, we are multiethnic and multicultural. That should be to our strength and not our detriment. Fascism tries to exploit these differences of the majority, who desire a peaceful, decent standard of living with healthcare assurances, educational quality, affordable food, gasoline, housing, utilities, and childcare. Division is how they win and use our democracy against us. If Hungary can unite against their far right, corrupt government for the good of society - even a little - then we should be inspired. As you know the Trump administration demonizes Trans and other LBGQs, people of color, and people of different faiths, while exploitation and covering up the sexual abuse of women and children. Decent, intelligent people of all multicultural and multiethnic backgrounds from every state (with PR) coming together to defeat this abomination is a very powerful coalition. It hasn’t happened yet, but don’t give up hope.

Unfortunately William I think you are right. Trump controls the DOJ the armed forces and 6 members of the supreme court ... he, they are the government.

It certainly seems that way.

Either way, millions will likely starve and die around the world, and here as well. What's the solution?

William Farrar's avatar

If millions will likely starve and die around the world, then go for broke

If you know that you are going to be killed, win or lose, than go for broke, don't go quietly into the dark night.

This looks like a long drawn out drama with people treating this like some football game in overtime. One of our biggest problems is that so many are disengaged and not seeing this election or what’s been happening since this administration took over as terrifically important. I hope this election is enough to wake them from their comatose state!

I have adopted two out-of-town candidates for support. It’s probably time others opened their wallets to do the same.
