Please tell Simon Rosenberg to stop telling us to not worry that the mid-term 2026 elections will be cancelled. We know that is the intent of this regime. They have told us so and we are fools to not believe them.

Eva Seifert's avatar

I have another fear. The Ds take Congress, get sworn in, and POS sends in his armed militia to take them out. Jan 6 was practice. Miller knows what to do the next time.

Sabrina Haake's avatar

agreed. I've written repeatedly that J6 was practice. also, throughout history, coups are never attempted just once.

Ransom Rideout's avatar

Let's make sure The Womens March gets their first.

alis's avatar

That's the ticket send the Moms to get the troops in line.

imhumanru's avatar

He'll simply say that since they all oppose his rule, they are insurrectionists and they will be arrested and imprisoned. That is what other tyrannical regimes have done, and he has already duplicated their methods many times.

imhumanru's avatar

Even if they are not cancelled, they will not be fair and honest elections. With mass voter purges, ID requirements, gerrymandering, and voter intimidation, a large part of the anti-tRump voters wil either not be allowed to vote, or will be too afraid to vote. That, IMHO, is the real reason behind the ICE raids and brutality.

We should NEVER FORGET - all of the horrors happening in the US today were authorized by the SCOTUS - among the most damaging and demented group of miscreants ever assembled.

Ransom Rideout's avatar

Yes, all of us here know that.

Hey Ransome. Great comment. We are in dark, evil times indeed. See you on the streets!

Hey yourself Dianne. We gotta catch up soon. Hi to Bob.

January 20, 2026 FREE AMERICA WALKOUT

2:00 PM- 3:00 PM

https://action.womensmarch.com/calendars/free-america-weekend

On Saturday there were 438 women's marches -- not publized here.

The places to protest should be at the offices, homes of Congressional Republicans.

alis's avatar

We will be out there tomorrow. Thanks for posting that link, Daniel.

Saturday's signs were mostly about Renee Good and Greenland. ENORMOUS support from the cars passing down the highway. Meanwhile, people in Greenland had signs that said NO Means NO and GO HOME YANKEE.

Greenlanders have out their high powered rifles for killing bears and game, the Europeans sent special forces, and what are the idiots doing? They are on the Sunday talk shows saying NATO nations will hand us Greenland. That was Bessent and Hassat---looked like neither had slept in days.

Daniel Solomon's avatar

We should concentrate on the Don Bacons, Brian Kilpatricks,

In Minnesota, four House Republicans.

Brad Finstad (District 1)

Tom Emmer (District 6), who currently serves as the House Majority Whip

Michelle Fischbach (District 7)

Pete Stauber (District 8)

alis, out there today in Johns Creek,Georgia for the womans march.

1.some good response from passersby, but not one pulled over to join in the rally. It's easy to blow your horn, not so easy to stand in 40 degree windy weather.

2.A lot of thumbs down,so we should not be deluded, there are a lot of "Nazis" out there.

alis's avatar

Spent my rally with a high schooler who is cis guy fighting for his trans friends.

Some dickhead drove by with a Daddy's Home flag. Thought no he's not, he in Davos trying to steal Greenland.

Stay warm and have a treat, David.

David's avatar

Alis, thanks for getting out there.Makes me feel like I'm doing something, maybe you feel the same way.

alis's avatar

Same, thanks to you. Happening coast to coast and overseas. Solidarity is so important.

Crap happening online too. Jennifer Welch from IHIP just got on the bad side of Musk. Don Lemon being threatened. Crap just doesn't end with these psychos.

Ransom Rideout's avatar

As they should be. It's good to know that you're still kickin' it Daniel.

David's avatar

Daniel,thnaks for posting,many more tomorrow 1/20/=Attending one here in Suwanee-Johns Creek,Georgia 2-4.

One more day.....

We haven't even technically got the first year behind us, and the list is too long to go over again. We've all discussed it while it is happening. That's one big difference from history---everything is in real time as we watch horrified.

The tools that enable us to do that are a part of the solution. There simply has to be too many brave reporters to keep what they do under wraps. Thank you Thom and Company on that front.

The 11th Airborne, supposedly going to Minnesota, are the Arctic troops that you would send to Greenland. He is stupid enough to do it. NATO wised-up. They are on a war-footing. The Greenlanders have high powered rifles for hunting and protecting themselves from polar bears. They are ready. We have to be too. See you in the streets.

Yes! Two wry beautiful old men. That was a funny bit and Jim's was too. He said 2026 is already "off its meds".

For those reading this, go to YouTube for The Dangerous Ones show. They're smart, funny, and in Portland, OR. Just like Thom, they claim TRump lies about their city. I dunno, people in frog, chicken, dinosaur, and unicorn costumes can be scary.

Have a good one, Gloria.

The positive is that now we know "exactly" what Putin and T spoke about in the past. It was a cookbook.*

The other shoe shall have dropped when Putin is taking his morning dump in the renovated Lincoln bathroom in the White House, having slept there the night before he addresses Congress. Afterwards, he will hold a phone-in show as he does in Russia, where he will field calls from anxious Americans with questions like, "Kin, uh, kin we, kin we all deport them Blacks somewheres, too? Uh . . . Whutz a goo lugg? An, an' whuttabout Caffolicks 'n Juice?"

Putin's henchman, big-faced Lavrov, will be gifted a permanent office in the West Wing.

Orban will be Vladimir's Congressional "Police State of Your Nation" speech, warm-up act.

Trump will be in the front row, clapping like a circus seal.

VOTE to end Donald's political-fondue of endless diarrhea !!!

* Twilight Zone episode: “To Serve Man,” is famous for the twist line: “It’s a cookbook!”

It originally aired on March 2, 1962 - Season 3, Episode 24

My suggestion for anyone who has already been identified as a "person of interest" to this cadre of terrorists running the show right now is to taunt and ridicule them and speak out loudly against them wherever possible, without any sort of threat. I have written many letters to the editor which are highly critical of Trump, et al, as well as lots of comments here and elsewhere. When Bondi, Patel, Homann's profiles showed up on FB, I sent them messages directly expressing my disdain and calling out their fascist attitudes and activities. I have written several posts to my own profile which call out Trump and others with highly derogatory statements, and I 'like' and forward dozens of posts from liberal/progressive/Democrat sources every day. I have good reason to believe that I or my communications are under surveillance, such as my phone battery power dropping and disruptions to my Internet. This is not for the faint of heart. But flooding the zone with "truth to power" and angry content is one way to let them know that we will not be intimidated. The following is the statement I posted this morning to my FB profile.

I have a question for all those arrogant fools who sat behind the felon one years ago when he was inaugurated for the second time. This is for Suckerberg, Theil, Vance, Miller, Musk, Bondi, Patel, Killer Barbie, and all those other miserable billionaire grifters, racists, and thieves. What are you going to do now that your boy is going down in flames? What is your back-up plan for the disaster that is happening and that will end with many of you in prison and no longer welcome in this great country of ours? The pedophile criminal and fraudster is being exposed and cut down to size. His ploy of starting wars or keeping them going for his pals Putin and Netan-Yahoo is not going to fly. He is senile and will not be physically able to even stand trial in his third impeachment, which will result in conviction. You will be held responsible for crashing the booming economy that Biden handed you and the suffering of millions of people. You will die in disgrace and no tears for you will be shed. Have you seen a glimpse of what’s coming for you in the months and years if you survive? Your private security and your worthless money will not be able to protect you from dishonor and disgust. Your own children, if you have any, will be reviled and hate you for the shame you have brought. You should have paid attention in history class.

There is a time when the operation of the machine becomes so odious, makes you so sick at heart, that you can't take part. You can't even passively take part! And you've got to put your bodies upon the gears and upon the wheels, upon the levers, upon all the apparatus, and you've got to make it stop! And you've got to indicate to the people who run it, to the people who own it — that unless you're free, the machine will be prevented from working at all!

Authoritarians are not leaders because they are not leading anybody anywhere. You do as you are told or, like an unruly child, you are punished.

True leaders motivate followership among the followers. They explain the mission and the rationale behind it. They plan and pursue goals according to a moral standard that they themselves live by. That helps encourage morality by example among the followers. True leaders solicit follower input to generate ideas regarding the best approach to achieving the mission. Encouraging input and criticism not only imparts ownership of the quest but it also helps to identify negative unintended consequences of some aspects of the strategy that should be minimized or avoided. When the mission is accomplished, they encourage follower celebration. If the mission fails, they accept the need for a new approach and engage followers in developing a Plan-B.

Donald Trump celebrates his Day-1 missions as achieved even when they are obviously NOT achieved. He wants to exemplify that he is a winner, not a loser. Losers are followers. Winners always succeed because they are always right. This is why they are in charge. Trump reinforces his power to rule by insulting and punishing followers in public just to remind them who is in charge. He rules, not by example, but by "do as I say, not as I do." That is not leadership. That is dictatorship. What people like Trump fail to realize is that eventually, their dictates will fall into the abyss of unintended consequences and take too many of their followers with them. That triggers revolt and replacement. It also sends the dictator's henchmen to Nuremberg.

alis's avatar

Fight, lie, claim victory. Roy Cohn 101.

TRump ditched him when he was dying.

Tomonthebeach's avatar

Ruthlessness is key to dictators' rule. It is also the primary symptom of psychopaths.

One of the ironies of becoming a billionaire is that you lose the capacity to love and be loved. That is because, as AOC once said, they got that rich by being ruthless amoral takers. That explains why they are serial marriers, their kids loathe them or become henchmen, and why most are substance abusers. They keep accumulating more and bigger toys as if that will bring happiness back into their lives. It never does.

alis's avatar

Worst of all as they age, many get better at faking emotions.

I wrote the other day that people thought Hitler loved his dog---it's pride of ownership. That's TRump and his kids.

The Goebbels killed their five daughters and a son. I'm worried for the Miller children, not about murder/suicide. Katie and Stephen are both psychopaths, and I hate to think how discipline will work in their house. And then there are genetics.....

Tomonthebeach's avatar

Yes, their genetics would greatly raise the likelihood of inheriting psychopathy.

Roy Cohn’s comment about Trump was quite telling. Cohn told his friends “Donald Trump pisses ice water.” The late Nicholas Von Hoffman wrote a very good biography about Cohn titled “Citizen Cohn.” Von Hoffman quoted Cohn’s statement in his book.

Winners. Not what you think I knew the guy who married Ray Kroc's daughter. Went from a small toen assistant DA driving a beetle to President of the San Diego Padres...McDonald's.

Some of the richest...started on third base...and think they hit a triple.

Some were just lucky....hit the lottery or broke the big casino.

Also, money does not guarantee good health...physical or mental.

I still think that the exterme personality types resemble each other. I've studied Castro...Trump is a caudillo ala Franco, Peron, Trujillo,etc.. Initially Castro was seen as the "white hope" of Cuba, ridding it from Batistia -- who was blackballed from all the major clubs in Havana because he was a Negrito. Self identified as a Spaniard. Castro's father was an imigrant - a member of the Spanish army who lost in 1898.

Trump passes himself of as more macho than anyone else. That's the major reason our Batisianos love him....

Tomonthebeach's avatar

What is hard to figger is why MAGAs buy Trump's phony strongman macho-macho image that he stole, ironically, from a gay rock group, LOL. He is a draft dodger and a wimp. He will not punch you in the face for being annoying. He will just sue you.

He has betrayed most of his campaign promises to the MAGAs yet they still believe his obvious lies. Many MAGAs are going deeper in debt yet still believe the economy is better because Trump said gas is $1.98/gal despite it being $2.50 at their gas station.

I had to stop and think about this for a minute. Fore once, I thought I had nothing to say. But, after thinking about it for a minute, it's becoming obvious. There is only one way to stop this steamroller and the American people are going to have to decide how much are they willing to sacrifice to get our lives back. Protests are one thing. They get some attention in the press, scant little these days, but some nonetheless.

Sacrifice will mean giving up their comforts. Sacrifice may mean enduring more brutality in the form of beatings and killings by the state. But national labor walkouts, and other actions that can bring the economic engine of the United States to a near halt, is nearly all that's left to do. Make Trump's billionaire donors hurt where it hurts the most, in their wallets.

If that doesn't work, that only leaves one thing left to do. The American people will have to do what their colonial ancestors did in answer to the brutalities of the British Red Coats. Are we the people ready to do that again?

Daniel Solomon's avatar

The fight tomorrow is in Congress.

Edie Patterson's avatar

Yes-- we each have to decide what we are willing to put on the line-truly commit to-in order to have a country tomorrow and in the future that lives up to the promises made in the past. We are past the point of believing elections can save us. The rot goes too deep.

Richard Kiefer's avatar

By telling Minn guv to have his state's National Guard and State Troopers orders to "Stand Down" while national guard and/or military takes over that state, Steven Miller has placed the chip on his shoulder, daring Minn state government to stop them - if and when it happens - and it will.

Terrance Ó Domhnaill's avatar

And then will we actually have that standoff between a state guard unit and active duty troops as some where afraid was going to happen late last year?

We should urge ALL of our House Reps and Senators to go to Minneapolis TOGETHER and join the demonstrators - not just once, do it many times, and in other cities and the focus of the Lame Duck and his henchmen go.

Let's get those Democratic "Leaders" working coherently together...to rescue liberty for all of us.

That really includes Schumer-types - we will notice who joins the activists....

Tim Sumner's avatar

Thom….

I have been reading your columns for about 3 years. I am lucky enough to own a good home printer. This has allowed me to create short versions of your essays which l take to the various demonstrations l have attended at the Missouri State capitol.

Walking among a group of people who are not sure how much they are accomplishing, but sure that they want their voices heard

Is the ideal arena to make your name more widely known. I’m not sure how much this helps but l know it is the right direction to

Yes l know that just like those who listen to right-wing HATE Radio l am guilty of promoting what l agree with.

The difference is that l am about your age and have seen some evidence of the harm done with my own eyes. I have met good people who helped when l was broke-down on a long distance motorcycle trip and l have watched many hungry homeless at the end of freeway off-ramps begging for money or food be ignored by drivers in all sorts of cars.

We are a complicated species and need the obvious truths pointed out ad infinitum.

Many bad moons are rising and many of us do not see.

Please keep speaking truth about the oppressors. Some people get it, and will eventually resist.

Trumpist totalitarianism is spreading throughout our government, just like kudzu in a southern forest, choking out the light of liberty and democracy.

Edie Patterson's avatar

This is what my gut has been telling me for months. We are truly teetering on the brink of losing what has made our country (mostly) a good place. Our resistance must grow, not diminish. We cannot afford to be scared of the consequences personally, if we are truly patriots.

The signers of the Declaration of Independence pledged their lives and fortunes for us. We have to do the same.

Sabrina Haake's avatar

Judge Young’s decision should be mandatory reading across the US. I wish I knew how to make that happen. As disgusted as I am w Roberts’ court, I have faith that they will stand behind the 1st A when the ICE brutality cases get to them. Even Alito and Thomas.

Richard Kiefer's avatar

We should trust Roberts just about as much as we should trust Trump, for it is he who led the Supreme Court on most of its undemocratic decisions of late, and helped Trump evade the finality of the impeachment process.
