Forget Federal Murder laws, Jonathan Ross murdered a woman, in the city of Minneapolis and the state of Minnesota. He is a resident of Minnesota, by the way, he needs to be arrested by local police, but there is lack of intestinal fortitude for action, lots of bravado in front of the microphones though. As they say in the south alligator ass, humming bird mouth.

Same situation in Portland, although the occupants of the car were not killed.the mayor should arrest the agents for attempted murder and let their defense play out in court, again alligator mouths.

I don't think for a nanosecond, this is going to be settled trough peaceful demonstrations.

How do we explain to younger generations that we have seen what a "Nazi" takeover is like and nothing was done to stop it.

They are going to have to do a lot more than parade with placards. The only thing that gets their attention is action and a big hit in the pocket book.

Protests are a pressure relief valve, what happens is that they sit back with popcorn and watch the protests. They don't give a fuck what we or the public thinks of them, doesn't any liberal or Democrat have a clue yet.?

If they care about public opinion, none of the shit that is happening would have happened.

Hitler didn't care about public opinion, Goebbels manufactured it.

Compare to Iran. The Mullahcracy is in deep shit, the whole nation, especially in the Kurdish NW is on fire, but their problems are exacerbated, maybe caused by their economic situation, and that is fueled by their water problem, their reservoirs have run dry. dams rely on water pressure pushing against them for structural integrity

Iran has been suffering a multi year drought, there is even talk of relocating Tehran, a to the south west coast.as there isn't enough water to meet the demand.

I here you Dave, but I am not saying sit on your ass and not protest, every thing that is done counts, but what I am saying is don't believe that protesting alone is sufficient.

Americans are soft, spoiled, they believe that it was protests that stopped the Vietnam war. It wasn't. all the protests did was stir up reaction and fortify the right wingers, reactionaries, war hawks.

The 1968 riot in chicago at the Democratic convention did as much to elect Nixon as anything. Middle America had a case against the "lefty commie scum" Abie Hoffman and the Chicago 7 or 8.

The reason Nixon pulled out in 72 is because Middle America, his base, what we call rural, red America, were fed up with military funerals for their brothers, cousins, husbands, uncles

Not because of some stupid hippies, high on love and pot, were marching and protesting.

I know because at that time I was a right wing Republican,.and frankly still haven't forgiven Jane Fonda, but I did, vainly, march in San Francisco, against Daddy Bush's phony and maladventure in Iraq.

Lot of good that did.

But you are correct, you have to do something, but prepared to do more, as the noose tightens around our necks.

William, thanks for the response. I think if protests were amped up and 40 million showed up instead of 8 ,it might make a difference and still that might not make a huge difference.

I was in the reserves in New York during the Vietnam era ,after doing basic @ Ft Dix,NJ. Most in the reserves were very mch against the Vietnam fiasco and Johnson was not well liked. The shooting of the kids @ Kent State helped to end 10 yrs of very bad news and it accomplished almost nothing except to provide massive income to cos like Haliburton.

AS you know Trump enjoyed massive support here in the south, primarily because he was responsible for appointing SC judges who glady overturned Roe V Wade. If you look @ the stats the massive % turnout by Catholics 57% ,Jews 37%,highest since 1988 ( Bush) and 100% white Christian Nationalists for his promise to bring them the " Rapture" is what voted him into office. So we got rid of Roe v Wade and abortion in many southern states, but we have a " Nazi" president who commits heinous acts every day. I am not sure what will turn this around,I have concluded that : NonViolence " is not working.Do you think we can survive another 3 yrs of day after day of bad news. This is not just Trump,Miller,Voight,Vance,Thiel. It is Tim Coo( Apple), Musk,Jensen Huang, and virtually all the TechnoNazis"who do not believe in Demopcracy but believe Technocracy and Fascism are the best forms of Gov't . Sunday starts a new week.....

It almost sends shivers wondering what we will be talking about NEXT Saturday.

I have not abandoned the mainstream media, I need to know what they are up to. NO opinions---who what when where will do nicely. It's the Sunday shows for the pundits and politicians for why or remedies. PBS News Hour is good.

The independents on YouTube are fantastic, they are bravely going "there". Here's a few to checkout: Meidas Touch Network, I've Had It Network, Secular Talk, The Young Turks, Adam Mockler, Keith Edwards, Harry Sisson, Hysteria, The Daily Beast, The Bulwark, The Daily Beans, The Left Hook, The Dangerous Ones, and many more.

For the unvarnished truth and some excellent history there is Thom and Company cranking it out everyday. Much appreciated, and let's pass those on. See you in the streets.

There is one show worth watching, I learn so much, and with excellent analysis and guests, Ali Velshi, MSNOW, a three hour program on sat and Sun.

First segement this morning was an exhaustive review of the murder in Minneapolis, right now they are talking about the Visit of AOC, Ilah Omar and other congress persons to the immigration detention camp in Minneapolis, first they weren't allowed on the ground, then they were allowed inside but no further than the lobby.

The law and a federal judge gives them the right and obligation to see how the people are being treated, but ICE refuses, and gets away with it, because ICE is the STASI, and doesn't have to abide by the law, only what Noem and Trump say.

We are in deep shit. The law is a joke, not applicable to us when we needed but used as a weapon against us.

We are in beginning states of a A kraterocracy (or kratocracy) ia system of government where power belongs to the strongest, maintained through force, coercion, or cunning, embodying the principle of "might makes right". It's rule by those who can seize and hold power, often through military might, wealth, or demagoguery, rather than by consent or law, essentially an enforced control by the powerful few.

I wasn't able to speak to Thom today. I'll tell you what I tell him. He has the capacity to put enough pressure to start the Jerry Weiss scenario.

If we can get three (3) Republicans, we can issue subpoenas, hold hearings.

Jerry Weiss scenario. https://jerryweiss.substack.com/

On Thursday, the Senate voted to advance a bill that would stop the Trump administration from additional attacks on Venezuela without congressional approval. The vote was 52–47 with five Republicans joining all the Democrats to move the measure forward. Republicans killed a similar measure in November, but Trump’s enormously unpopular incursion into Venezuela and threats against Greenland prompted five Republicans to reassert congressional authority over military action. CNN called it “a notable rebuke of the president.”

The five Republicans voting for the bill were Susan Collins of Maine, Josh Hawley of Missouri, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, Rand Paul of Kentucky, and Todd Young of Indiana.

Immediately, Trump posted on social media that the five “should never be elected to office again.” By reasserting the power of Congress, he wrote, they were “attempting to take away our Powers to fight and defend the United States of America.”

Trump is in a pickle. Here is Baghdad By the Sea, at least one House MAGAT, my rep, opposes him on immigration. Many other House Republicans oppose him on the Epstein coverup. Others on the Obamacare issue. It's up to us to convince more to join them.

In Minnesota Congressional Republicans need to be pressured. We need to contact their donors. Local businesses. Local Holy Joes. Picket. Sit in.

The current Republican U.S. representatives for Minnesota are:

District 1: Brad Finstad (since August 12, 2022)

District 6: Tom Emmer (since January 3, 2015)

District 7: Michelle Fischbach (since January 3, 2021)

2. Ukraine. NATO to the rescue. The NATO Alliance consists of 32 member states from North America and Europe. Article Five of the treaty states that if an armed attack occurs against one of the member states, it should be considered an attack against all members, and other members shall assist the attacked member, with armed forces if necessary.

Here in Baghdad By the Sea, the Miami Herald covers stuff that everyone else miss. That meeting with Big OIl was a joke. E.G. "An announcement by Venezuela’s interim government that it would free a “substantial number” of political prisoners — a move publicly celebrated by Trump as a breakthrough — has stalled almost as soon as it began, exposing a fierce internal power struggle inside the fractured Chavista regime following the capture of Nicolás Maduro."

Read more at: https://www.miamiherald.com/news/nation-world/world/americas/venezuela/article314273534.html#storylink=cpy

From NYT Dealbook: Ryan Lance, the chief executive of ConocoPhillips, regarding the $12 billion in claims the company is pursuing against Venezuela. The president, however, showed little interest in addressing such concerns, saying, “We’re not going to look at what people lost in the past.” He jokingly suggested that such losses could be written off on the companies’ taxes.

“It’s already been written off,” Lance replied somewhat tersely.

And after Mark Nelson, the vice chairman of Chevron, spoke, Trump made what sounded like a threat.

“If we make a deal, you will be there a long time,” he said, without naming Chevron or any other oil company. “If we don’t make a deal, you won’t be there at all.”

How can we believe that Democrats will win back both houses when Trump has so eagerly been busy trying to rig national voting?

Trump is unquestionably demented. Yet, for the second time in a row since Article 25 was enacted, both parties have ignored presidential dementia out of greed for power. You have to ask yourself why we allow Trump's ICE Gestapo to invade US major cities to harass the citizens, even shooting and killing some, ostensibly to keep immigrants from eating our dogs and cats?

We sit idly by as Trump raises the defense budget to $1.5TN when it is already bigger than the next dozen countries' defense budgets combined? Who the heck do MAGAs think is going to pay for our skyrocketing national debt? Our tariffs have alienated all US allies and trading partners globally - including risking expulsion from NATO so some demented megalomaniac is free to obliterate the American economy to own an ice-covered island in the North Atlantic?

Alienating all our allies, asserting that International Law is a joke, will finish us off as the world reacts to a whacko ticking bomb that might attack them next.

William Farrar's avatar

Totally agree Tom, but a word on the national debt. The national debt is not like the household debt. If you don't make payments you will be foreclosed on, repossessed, lose your credit rating, credit cards cancelled and unable to get credit.

It is the interest on debt, public and private, including credit card, that is responsible for inflation. long term inflation the upward creep where a home that once cost $9,0000 now costs a quarter of a million.

Short term inflation is indeed caused by the supply of money, but dissipates leaving only interest inflation.

The government funds it's activities by selling government securities, to the Association of Primary Dealers in Government Securities at discount, the APDIGS then sells themto the fed which uses them as the reserve base, institutions (retirement funds, unions) and overseas investors (sovereign funds, central banks)

Interest and maturing bonds are redeemed and paid, by taxes, If there aren't enough taxes collected to redeem bonds and pay interest, the government then prints more securities, and as securities flood the market, their value goes down. The value of the dollar weakens, and eventually the world is dedollarized, and the Renminbi (RMB), China's currency is on the rise

To sell government securities to central banks sovereign funds and institutions, in the face of a weakening dollar, requires a higher interest rate.

The Open Market committee of the Federal Reserve establishes the current interest rate, which is the rate at which the Open Market Committee sells it's government securities to member banks, which then uses them as the reserve base.

The reserve base is comprised of government securities, corporate bonds, and demand deposits (checking accounts).

The Fed also sets the fraction of reserves that banks must keep on hand, that they can loan (create money) out of debt.

the U.S., the Federal Reserve currently sets the reserve requirement at 0%, meaning banks aren't legally forced to hold a specific percentage of deposits in reserve to make loans, a change made in March 2020 to boost lending, though banks still hold reserves for operations. Historically, this rate was around 10% for larger banks, dictating how much they could lend from deposits, but now banks manage liquidity based on other regulations and market needs, not a mandated minimum.

This means that the banks can literally create money, but can only do so in response to consumer demand for loans, including credit cards.

Money so created is wiped off the books, when the principal is paid down or paid off.

Incur a thousand dollar debt today, and the bank creates $1,000 of money, pay off the loan tomorrow and that $1,000 is wiped off the books. however as you spend that money and it passes through hands, it is diminished by the average tax rate. It takes a about 7 transactions for the money to completely disappear.

The effect of our national debt is felt mainly in international trade.. as the interest rate of the government security rises the value of the dollar diminishes, and it costs more to purchase products overseas, and cheaper for foreign actors to purchase American property and products. The reverse is true.

An increase of money flowing in from abroad, also increasesthe money supply, and causes a rise in prices.

But the only way to foreclose on America inc, is by war. invade and be victorious.

Many ancient wars were fought for that reason,

The Fugger Brothers of Italy, were financiers of the crowned heads. Alas they loaned Spain a fortune, which Spain could not or did not repaly. The Fugger brothers did not have a sovereign indebted to them that they could control, so went bankrupt.

Ferdinand and Isabella were still in need of silver and gold, there solution was to issue and Edict of Expulsion, evicting all Muslims and Jews, then confiscating their property.

Expand full comment
Tomonthebeach's avatar

High national debts sustain inflation and decrease citizens' standard of living. It also shrinks the value of the US dollar.

We all pay the price of the National Debt indirectly because it affects the interest rates foreign financiers charge for the lower security of US investments. Just like if your credit score is 350, your credit card interest rate will be 4 times higher than mine at 830 because your risk of default is very high. High national debt will also be reflected in wholesale charges, insurance charges, etc. that all affects what you and I pay for imports, as well as mortgage and car loans.

Sadly, ECON 101 is not a required core course in most universities. Tariffic Trump surely skipped it. Household Financial Management is rarely a semester-long Public HS course either. The US financial system is rigged to ensure that citizens remain economic illiterates. It facilitates indenturing us. This psychologist knows some world-class economists like Dean Baker, author of "Rigged" and Harold Pollack, author of the best-seller, "The Index Card." Both books should be required reading in HS.

To make yours and my head spin, Trump is saying that the tariffrs and his executive orders re a national inventment fund and his promotion of cybergelt will grow the economy so much that the national debt wilkl be paid and that federal income taxation will be eliminated.

Trump signed an executive order in February 2025 to create a U.S. sovereign wealth fund, aiming to build national wealth by monetizing U.S. assets, potentially funding it through debt, tariffs, or asset sales, with Michael Grimes tapped to set it up, though the specifics and congressional hurdles remain significant. Separately, his administration established the United States Investment Accelerator in March 2025 to boost large-scale investments by reducing red tape, speeding permits, and coordinating federal agencies for major projects like CHIPS Act initiatives.

If the national debt is $38 trillion, according to some boosters, that is exactly the value of Venezuelan oil assets he just expropriated.
