I'm too aware of that. I lived in Ukiah, where I worked with Steven Katsaris. His daughter, Maria, was at the top of Jonestown's hierarchy, and whose son, Anthony, was shot at the airport but survived. Cults are extremely dangerous, in part because they are highly seductive.
The world shrinks as we age, does it not? My sense is that the bulk of cults are composed of people with no critical reasoning skills, and/or more regret in their lives than they can handle. I had another close-hand look into a cult, though one quite different from Jim Jones. It being a weird world, my ex brother-in-law was the vice president of Synanon.It didn't start out as a cult but evolved over time into one. Many of its members were high functioning but they had also been junkies. As more people joined it they became increasingly alienated from the mainstream and began to construct a mythos that included the belief that they could correct the world's wrongs.

I've been watching cruise ship reports and apparently some diversions have been made to other ports because of a buildup of naval assets in the Virgin Islands, or at least that is what passengers claim they heard. Also the Dominican Republic just said that the USAF could use more space in their air bases to "fight drugs". To my mind these are small indications that in the Caribbean the forces are increasing, probably at an accelerating rate.
Just had elections in severtal countries and one pending in Honduras. This stuff reminds me of gunboat diplomacy, of CIA operations in several Latin countries.

We don't have diplomatic relations with Colombia. Colombia recalled its ambassador to the U.S. amid rising tensions after strikes against boats the Trump administration claimed were drug traffickers. Colombian President Gustavo Petro accused Trump of murdering a Colombian fisherman in one of those strikes. Trump called Petro an “illegal drug dealer."
“Gunboat diplomacy” is a good term to dredge up from the past, Daniel. None of this makes any sense in that killing a few alleged drug dealers won’t stop anything. After all, many billions have been spent since Nixon and while the demand is there the supply will come. So naturally he pardons a character who was convicted of drug trafficking.

Instead of accumulating Substack entries that circle around easily obtained information he gets to the transactional history of the pair- Epstein wanted to buy a mansion for 30 million and showed Trump but Trump went behind his back and bought it for 40 million then two years later sold for 90 m to a Russian oligarch where he launders their money.
Epstein is furious and attempts to discredit Trump; but Trump or a surrogate goes to law enforcement and reports Epstein’s trafficking and sex with underage girls which starts a 15 year investigation.
Now Trump is using this incident to make claims he was an undercover agent spying on Epstein to justify his years of involvement with Epstein and cover his own ass being implicated in the crimes.
I see parallels here in Kuo’s Substack of investigative journalists covering the triangulation of Ukraine/Russia/and the US. All the writers journalism investigative efforts circle around known historical theories and allusions (ie David and Goliath) meticulously expounded upon yet revealing nothing. What exactly is happening in the negotiations which have produced nothing but more murderous mayhem.
