How is aid to our foreign enemy not treason? Asking for a friend.

America has treated Russia as an enemy of the state for about a century. It was promoting communism which could expand unionism and drive up wages in the capitalist US and EU. We condemned RU for occupying Afghanistan (before we did the same after they left). RU is allied with China whom we fought in a proxy war in Vietnam for 2 decades. [My enemy's friend is my enemy, right?] Of course, formally, it is Congress's job to declare war, and that is not going to happen. They could not even impeach him - twice.

I have long heard rumors that Trump survived his many stupid investment failures because he was laundering money for RU oligarchs via his real estate business using Deutsche Bank as a passthru. After the assassination of DB's CEO Herrhausen in late 1989 lots of rumors buzzed that he was investigating irregularities in the bank. It was quickly silenced - bad for business. Kablooie - what irregularities? Such a conspiracy theory could explain the cozy relationship between Vlad and Don - but it is just a theory.

One footnote: All of this corruption hanky panky on the right could not have occurred without hanky panky on the left. Very few Democrats are currently ranting outrage at the re-rise of American fascism. Most Americans conveniently forget our pre-war support for Nazis within our own borders. Americans back then were not only racist eugenicists, but active antisemites. Jews were banned from country-club memberhships. Slurs like Hebes, Kikes, Hymies, Yids, were common in public chatter into the 1960s.

thanks, but you had to do some serious gymnastics for that footnote false equivalence. "yes, but there were/are racists on the left" hardly answers to what trump is doing.

Ms. Haake, what I said might seem to be a stretch for you due to our difference in age. As children growing up in the 50s, we were often reminded by parents (ours and our friends') how lucky we were not to be living in crime-infested Chicago with all the Ni-gers. Back then there was not a single person of color living in my town. My friend across the street was the son of the Dem. Speaker of the House in Springfield and a good friend of Dick Daley. So I was quite familiar with the politics of both parties - and their corruption.

What we kids heard adults saying and what the nuns in my grammar school were teaching was often in moral conflict. So the year before you were born, I fled Whiteflightburbia to attend a Catholic high school half a block walk from the Water Tower on Michigan Ave. It took some conniving on my part to get my folks to let me commute by train daily from Bensenville to downtown Chicago, but it was worth it.

So you see, while you were in your crib, I was a teenager marching in Chicago for equal rights and in opposition to the Vietnam War. I was a member of the Near Northside Congress of Racial Equality at age 15. After school, my HS classmates and I did volunteer work in Chicago's all-Black public housing projects to help kids stay out of trouble. But when I returned home each night, ethnic slurs were not whispered in adult conversation - nor among my playmates.

I think there's a disconnect. I don't dispute that racism existed then and exists now, or doubt the severity of its effects. But ignorance and hatred, even mass ignorance and hatred, is simply not on par with a president executing a coup that soon will become militarized and violent, either on the global stage or at home, and probably both. to me it's like comparing apples and shoes.

William Farrar's avatar

But Sabrina, your exception to Tom's comment, was comparing apples to oranges. He simply said that their was racism in the democratic party, and there was and probably is, and you said that it is nothing compared to what Trump is doing, And what Trump is doing is unconnected to racism, and everything to do with him being a King.

Ukraine policy stupidity is a window of opportunity. Need Congressional Republicans to stand up. Interview senate dems.

Send Congress this:

Dear Mr. Solomon,

Thank you for contacting me regarding the war in Ukraine. I appreciate the opportunity to respond.

Russia is a cancerous, evil regime that threatens our national security by attempting to control as much of Europe and Eurasia as it can. It also supports the regimes in Iran, Communist China, Cuba, and Venezuela. All of them continually seek to harm the United States and force us into a position of dependence upon them for our livelihood. Vladimir Putin’s unjustifiable and unlawful invasion of Ukraine is just one more example of this fact. I believe that the United States must continue to stand strongly with Ukraine and provide the lethal military aid it needs to win this war. Putin’s murderous attacks are a threat to our national security and the security of our democratic allies.

While we must continue to support democracy in Ukraine, I will not allow Russia’s unjust invasion to deprioritize or slow progress on solving urgent domestic issues such as securing the border, fighting inflation and rebuilding our national defense. Congress can continue to act and solve these issues, which we owe to the American people.

As Florida’s U.S. Senator, and a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, I will continue fighting for allies around the world, while also ensuring we take care of our families here at home. I am proud to represent every citizen in Florida and I appreciate the time you took to provide your position on this matter. Should you have any additional questions or comments, please feel free to contact me.

Sincerely,

Rick Scott

United States Senator

Ah but there is racism on the left, not as embeded or as prevalent, all of the faults that are found on the right can be found in the left.

The left is as intolerant and self righteous as the right, just differently.

Take the birth mother of the Free Speech Movement, Berkeley, then pause some 40 years and it becomes as intolerant as the right wing that tried to silence them.

Free speech for me but not for thee. Politically correct speech, cancel culture started on the left and has migrated to the right.

But Sabrina, mixing racism and what Trump is doing is a non sequitur. A logical fallacy, it does not follow. Albeit Trump is racist to his core, but what he is doing is deconstructing America and the rule of law.

Since your bible is a mishmash of documents that were filtered through by the powers that be of the time, the representatives of Constantine, were edited, again and again, copied and translated, again and again from Syriac to Greek , then to Latin and French then to English and German and each time the scrivener, the translator interjected their own bias and needs, your source is b.s..

An example In Leviticus, in the original Hebrew, it says that a woman who lies with a beast commits incest (meaning women are beasts) in the KJV it says that a woman who l lies with a beast is an abomination.

The Very name Jesus comes from the signet for the Greek god of wine Dionysos (his feast day was Dec 25, the Dionysia, in Rome it was Bacchus and the Bacchanalia. Dionysos. translates into son of god. And he was the son of god (Zeus or Dios).

His signate was IHS, Iota eta sigma, The eta in Greek is both a consonant and a vowel, a Noun at the beginning of a word and a vowel in the middle of a word, muchlike the Roman I, which was both a Vowel and a consonant

In Latin IHS sounded like Jees, ad themale masculine ending of us and you have IHSus or Iesus, (pronounced something like Jesus, Julius Caesar was rally pronounced Yulius Kyser.

The Hebrew version would be Joshua or Yahooshua, it means Savior.

There was no word in Greek for Messah (massiach in Hebrew) but the Jewish messiah was anointed, with oil, and the closest thing in Greek was christos or to rub with olive oil. see also Crisco.

Your bible is a sham, a fraud, a compilation of manufactured documents compiled and even written by Roman scribes, copied, edited, translated, time and time again, and this is your sacred, infallible holy book.

The only reason you claim it as such is because you are either lazy and gullible, or you find stuff in it that you can use as a sock puppet.

You would do better using the Egyptian Book of the Dead, at least that is in it's original context.

Heaven. What is heaven? Heaven is just another name for the sky, that atmosphere which encirles the earth. In Spanish the "Lords prayer" goes "Padre nuestro que estás en los cielos, translated "Our father who is in the skies" in Latin Pater noster, qui es in caelis

CIELOS AND CAELIS are the plural for the word cielo or caelum which mean sky.

The people that wrote your bible and created your religion, believed that when you died your soul went into the sky and you lived on the clouds, that was before they had hot air ballons and airplanes, and by the 15th Century, mankind had advanced enough to realize that the sky was not occupied by disembodied spirits (and how can they see, feel, hear without eyes, mouths, vocal chords, taste buds, olfactory glands, and ears.?

So the obscured sky with the word heaven.

Muslim belief there are sevenheavens, which at the time the Quran was written was the known number of planets, and the ancients believed that the abode of the gods, or even the gods themselves were planets and stars.

And IIRC Mormons believe that when you die you will get your own planet or star.

If you die and go to heaven it has to be a noisy place, with all of the air traffic, missiles bombers, fighter aircraft whizzing through you.

Oh, but you say heaven is not the sky, so it has to be another dimension. Now we are dealing with a multiverse, and indeed believers live on Earth 2.

The DOD has its own satellite communications, and in fact back in 1979, during Operation Eagle Claw, the failed Iranian hostage rescue. The troops at Desert 1 and the small team in the mountains over looking Tehran (Desert 2) kept in touch with the Pentagon via very bulky and large satellite communications, at that time they used a PRC-25, a manpack portable FM radio with a pigtail antenna.

However now that Musk has control of the Pentagon I doubt that he will let Ukraine use it

The EU is developing it's own satellite communications system called Iris2. I don't know how far along they are, but they better hurry, dependent on the Trump regime puts them at risk.,

Let me add something about avian flu. I live in northern Virginia, and learned that six Canada geese were found in Reston to have died from avian flu. Knowing that it is in the area, I have removed bird feeders for the time being. I do not want to spread it among the birds that come through my yard. Also, it seems to mutate and jump easily to non-avian animals, like cats and cows, so I want to protect my dogs as well. As Thom said, you or your pets can contract avian flu through contact with bird droppings. When bird droppings dry, they flake apart and float in the air. Inhaling infected droppings is a mechanism for contracting the disease.

Thanks, now I am concerrned I live rural, have a pond on the property and a large pond and Marsh near by, also a barn where a community stables horses, and they browse the pasture, not too far down the main road is a herd of black Angus.

The neighboring property, not mine are home to migrating Canada geese, two flocks at least, I delight in watching their training flights and the marshy pond is home to ducks, as is my pond.

I have four cats, three are indoor cats. the other is an indoor outdoor cat that adopted us, some three or four years ago. He goes off on sabbaticals, the last time for 43 days.

He stays away from the Geese. You don't mess with geese, they have barbs at the joint on their wings and are very aggressive if threatened.

Years ago, no here, I was attacked by a goose every time I tried to deliver a hot meal to a Meals on wheels client.,had to carry a tire iron.

Yes. We have an issue with mice in mountain areas of California that carry the Haunta virus. They leave their droppings, and humans inhale the virus-infected particles when they are dry and disturbed. People usually don't survive, as they realize the problem too late. I will be more vigilant with my bird feeders and remove the feed if avian flu is near.

I suggest having indoor and outdoor shoes. I have a pair of indoor shoes (or sandals in summer) that I keep on a small shoe bench near the front door. I do not wear my outdoor shoes in the house. Also, I periodically use a Clorox wipe to clean the soles of my indoor shoes. I don’t have a cat, but my floors stay cleaner because I’m not tracking in dirt from outside.

I grew up in Hawaii and learned to leave shoes at the door out of respect. These days I have “mud shoes” by the door for cleaning up outside. But I do wear my dirty running shoes indoors from time to time, will be more careful.

Shoes worn to go out are immediately washed when I return, not that I encounter bird poop at the store, just a habit from the pandemic. I have 4 indoor cats, just had carpet replaced by hardwood in the largest room, what a relief, so much easier cleaning. Was vacuuming daily and shampooing carpet weekly for 12 years, and now in PT for rotator cuff injury!

Not that this has to do with bird flu, but keeping a clean house (without injuring oneself) seems to be a high priority with all these infectious diseases threatening humans and animals.
