The posters in Nazi Germany said turn in your Jewish neighbors. With this poster the transition to a full fascist state has arrived; the only difference is they changed “Jewish” to “Foreign Invaders”. And they will be the judges of who is a “foreign invader”. Whose next?

Take a clue from Germany. Those that aren't intimidated into silence and submission, will be rounded up and persecuted.

DOGE has the ability now to create a national data base, and flag people as enemies of Trump err the state. Flag a person and require employers to access that data base to see if the employee or applicant is loyal to the regime, do that for everyone even those on Social Security, Medicare, retired and you have the perfect population control tool. No job, no money, no food, no housing, nothing.

IBM created a computerized card sort system to do the same for Hitler, look at the power of computers today, and electronically linked at that.

I’m sorry to say you are right. I’m frightened for the safety of all ordinary Americans if a member of Trump’s cabinet doesn’t even have the brains or common sense to apologize.

Two can play

If you have not seen the stuff Newsom has been posting, be sure you look it up. My favorite so far was the one of Stephen Miller depicted as a gargoyle. He most definitely is a demon feeding on fears that TRump and his cult have created.

Also, a good tip for those headed to demonstrations: Put your cell phone on "airplane mode". The powers that be will be using devices to sweep up numbers and from there they get names and start data bases. Cells can also be used to listen in. In addition, this is a good idea for meetings---don't just use the vibrate setting.

NO KINGS! NO NAZIS! Be safe and stay loud, friends. See you in the streets.

I saw Governor Newsom’s speech and was very impressed with his words, demeanor, and his obvious anger. All Democratic leaders should take a lesson: speak plainly and with emotion.

I, on the other hand, was not impressed because Newsome spoke about me in code and justified this targeting of me as 'necessary to know'. For whom? I have done nothing illegal that they cannot take me to court, nor can I hire a lawyer for any aspect of this, as they immediately say no, we don't want the surveillance to shine on our firm.

All of my neighbors, as well as the entire city of San Diego and beyond, have had 24/7 surveillance access to my home for more than two decades. This allows people who are strangers to follow me and harass me, armed with knowledge of what I do in the privacy of my own home. The Supreme Court is aware and allows it. The two political parties as well.

Everyday, it is a new neighbor who reveals their access and sets about to intimidate me. If these people think it cannot happen to them, all they have to do is look at themselves and consider what they are doing to earn money to fund a specific project. They turn me, and hundreds of them are Jewish. The synagogs give tacit acknowledgement and thus tacit permission. I am so tired of trying to alert people to this fact, but it isn't just about me; it's a microcosm of what's to come.

Re that poster. Under Castro in Cuba, the communist party set up Committees for the Defense of the Revolution. Everone was a suspect of being a "gusano," a worm, subject to 24/7 scrutiny. Children turned in parents, and vice versa.

Remember Antonio Prohías for MAD Magazine. Two spies, one white and one black, engaged in elaborate acts of sabotage against each other. Slapstick humor and intricate traps. There's video games. Only in reality, it was theater of the absurd -- black humor.

Many of the worms relocated here. You'd think they'd identify with the victims, but they are mostly overdogs.

Elizardo Sánchez, a Cuban dissident, described the CDR as "a tool for the systematic and mass violation of human rights, for ideological and repressive discrimination. They assist the police and the secret service". Carlos Alberto Montaner, described the CDRs as a mass informant network established by the Ministry of the Interior, that uses social pressure to recruit informants. Informants are organized into local committees, who are headed by broader regional committees; all dedicated to keeping files on local citizens.

Yesterday I posted that in Baghdad By the Sea, Enrique Tarrio, the former Proud Boys leader from Miami who Trump pardoned for his participation in the Jan. 6 attack, wants citizens to take deporting undocumented immigrants into their own hands. Literally, he has an app for that. Tarrio has announced he will be the “czar” of an independent organization that pays people cryptocurrency for reporting undocumented migrants.

Trump and Castro have a lot in common. The cult of personality. Trump supporters here view him as a "caudillo" like Franco, Simon Bolivar, and many others.

I'm afraid that the Proud Boys, using Bannon's advice about setting up "precincts" alrteady has CDR's in place. Proud Boys have infiltrated the local Republican Party. All Democrats are depicted as communists in Spanish language social media. I probably told you that when my wife was a poll worker, she was accused of handing out commie literature.

Not just unregistered immigrants. Yesterday, a neighbor stopped by to tell me she was moving to Greece with her son. They have dual citizenship. I understand a number of Canadian Americans neighbors are doing the same.

Today is a good day to stand our ground. I still have hope. It's raining on Trump's parade. Pressure Congressional Republicans.

What else to say? It is wrong to use troops. They know that and move to authoritarianism anyway. It will be soon that the tensions on this strap will break and violence will escalate. I am not hopeful that protest peacefulness can be sustained. The authoritarians are stoking the flames to start the fire. https://hotbuttons.substack.com/p/troops-in-los-angeles?r=3m1bs

Carl, Two things.

Peaceful protests do not change minds, policies or regimes, e.g. White Rose Society.

Even if peaceful, agent provocateurs and infiltrators will initiate violence. Remember the Umbrella man in Minneapolis, the black clad "anarchists" of Seattle and Portland.

Even the burning of the Waymo vehicles in LA.

The White Rose Society consisted of a handful of individuals; it was not a large-scale movement. It also didn't form until Hitler had been in power for about 8 years; from the outset it didn't stand a chance. As of yet the far right does not have the nation in a stranglehold; the political environment is still in flux and change, peaceful change, is within the bounds of probability. It is easier to prevent lung cancer by not smoking in the first place than to cure it after it's diagnosed.

What you say is true, but there is a big difference. Trump has almost 100% control of the government, the legislative, the executive and about 70% of the judicial.

He has the media intimidated, the legal system intimidated, the majority of the nations law enforcement are either MAGAt or sympathetic.

What is lacking is a countervailing power.

I do so hope that your rose colored view that PEACEFUL change is within bounds of possibility.

If so then tell me how? The 9th Circuit, rather than uphold the lower courts ruling as regards deployment of Marines, deferred to the administration and gave them a week to justify their action.

I really do want to know how there will or could be peaceful change.

The 2026 Elections? That is worth its own discussion.

Trump has weaponized DOJ and the Department of Defense he has demonstrated a propensity for arresting anyone, even politicians, that displease him.

Given those and others, I am truly interested in how there is an opportunity for peaceful change.

"Peaceful protests do not change minds, policies or regimes."

Think Poland. Solidarity (1980-1989): A trade union movement that grew into a broader social and political movement challenging communist rule.

Lech Wałęsa, a key leader of Solidarity, was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1983 for his work.

Think Czechloslovakia. Key events include the Velvet Revolution of 1989, which peacefully ended communist one-party rule, and subsequent efforts to consolidate democratic institutions. More recently, protests against Prime Minister Andrej Babiš and his government, organized by groups like Million Moments for Democracy, highlighted ongoing concerns about corruption and the protection of democratic principles. Václav Havel was a key figure in the Czech democracy movement, particularly in the lead-up to and during the Velvet Revolution in 1989. He was a playwright and dissident who became a vocal critic of the communist regime in Czechoslovakia.

Think Romania. Hasn't completely played out, but many think peacful demnonstrations saved democracy THIS YEAR.

Lots of other examples.

I am proud that I volunteered with ROLI. My effots went for naught as I was mainly concentrating on Cuba, but many of my colleagues were personally involved. https://www.americanbar.org/advocacy/global-programs/?login

We will see if a peaceful non violent protest movement can overturn and upend a nascent fascist regime.

In Poland, Solidarity had the support of virtually all of the people, and it wasn't just protests, it was underground activities, strikes and sabotage. All that it did was liberalize the communist government until the "iron curtain" fell in 1989, which brings us to Czechoslavia, The Velvet Revolution happened because there was no longer any threat of Soviet Tanks rumbling through Praque.

Same thing withNicolae Ceaușescu

When Gorbachev, restructured the USSR and the Iron curtain fell, the previous Eastern European satrapies threw off, without violence, their oppressor as there was no threat of Russian Tanks rolling through the captal as in 1955

Hungary.

It isn't people parading in streets holding signs that induce change, it is the fear of what will happen or what is happening, if change doesn't come that is the motivator.

It takes more than parades and signs, it takes the threat of action that can immobilize a nation. And that is what Solidarity did in Poland. strikes, underground activities, sabotage.

Maybe a general strike in America, but lots of luck with that, when almost half of the population are Trump humping MAGAts.

Our initial enemy is not Trump and the administration, but it's support staff, it's base.

And attacking them will only stiffen their spines. They have to feel the pain, and I mean really feel it,of the consquences inflicted on them by their lord and savior.

One thing overlooked in this discussion is that at least 40% of the population are MAGAts or sympathetic conservatives, and they are very well armed, as opposed to the liberals, the progressives, the democrats.

Nothing will change so long as 40% of the population stands with the fascists.

it only takes 17% of a population to cause a seismic shift in the culture.

Does Homan really believe those who live in "liberal" cities — or the rest of the nation — are going to sit idly by while the jackbooters break into our schools and churches, our stores and fields, to send our friends and neighbors, the people who grow our food and take out our trash, to some concentration camp? This is nothing but hubris arising from naïveté and is likely to bring the entire edifice down on top of themselves.
