and yet here we are funding Israel where all their citizens get healthcare using our tax dollars....and millions here in the US have either lost or are not able to afford insurance because the costs have doubled or even tripled because of republicans......
There is another wrinkle in the Cuban situation. China is helping them develop renewable resources. They are working with them on solar and wind. However, they have put a price-tag on it that the Cuban government may not have. Even when China bankrolls something, there is a "cost".
We could end-up in a stand-off with a united Putin and Xi 90 miles off our coast. TRump sent the Marines in the wrong direction. If he means to own Cuba, he better get on with it. The allies shared Berlin, just a weird thought. Who knows what crazy sh*t is in store for the Cubans.
Columbia and Cuba are all part of The Technate of America fever-dream TRump got from the Tech Bros and psycho billionaires that want to own the Western Hemisphere. No rules for them---no democracy for us! See you in the streets today and at NO KINGS on the 28th.

Here in Baghdad By the Sea, WE are affected A Cato Institute report estimates there are over 1.2 million frozen immigration-benefits applications from these three countries, out of 2 million frozen in total across all countries. "Wall Street is buzzing this morning over a single figure: $25 million. That is the total compensation awarded last year to Kathy Ruemmler, Goldman Sachs’s departing general counsel, according to a company proxy filing released late yesterday. Ruemmler, a former White House counsel and seasoned defense attorney, resigned from the firm following a wave of scrutiny sparked by the release of the Epstein files.
"The documents revealed extensive email correspondence between Ruemmler and the disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein when she was in private practice. While Ruemmler was never Epstein’s formal legal counsel, the communications painted a complex picture: She appeared to offer informal legal advice and guidance, while Epstein seemingly provided her with referrals to other high-profile clients. As the details became public, a growing chorus of critics — both inside and outside the firm — questioned how she could remain in a role that involved managing reputational risk. While Ruemmler initially resisted stepping down, the pressure eventually became a “distraction” she could no longer ignore.
"Throughout the controversy, the Goldman Sachs C.E.O., David Solomon [no relation], and the board of directors remained steadfast in their support. They maintained that Ruemmler had been transparent during her initial hiring process and that a prior review had cleared her of any wrongdoing. For those who doubted the depth of the firm’s loyalty, the $25 million payout, up from $22.5 million the year prior, serves as a definitive, if eyebrow-raising, proof of their backing."
If I were a partner/shareholder, I want the money back puls punies.
The Miller/Netanyahu/AIPAC/Putin administration doesn’t appear to have America’s best interests at heart, and our traditional allies are justifiably re-evaluating their loyalties. Thanks Repugnicans.
As a psychologist, I start making sense of behavior by questioning motivation. David Brooks pointed out a while back that ambitious people are mostly motivated by wealth and power, whereas aspirational people are motivated by making a positive difference in the world. Pols like AOC and Mamdani are aspirational while Trump and most of Congress are ambitious and power-hungry.
When I look at Trump, it is hard not to notice early on that he is not the brightest bulb in the chandelier. An incompetent businessman, he was groomed to be a racketeer. That explains his sole reliance on extortion to get what he wants. But like many racketeers, he has a Capo di Tutti Capi who keeps him out of harm's way. In Trump's case, harm is serial business failures. While Trump is a sort of "Don," his Capo is Putin. Trump has been laundering the ill-gotten wealth of Russian oligarchs probably since he first needed capital to build Trump Tower.
Putin likely enticed Trump at some point to be his saboteur to distract America from interfering with his efforts to restore the USSR. He knew Trump would be the bull in America's crockery shop. After his failed 1-term presidency, Putin had four years to tutor Trump on how to be a competent government vandal. The pace of his conversion of America from democratic governance to autocratic rule is a historical first. America is stymied because it has never before had a president whose goal was treason. America's sky is clearly falling because our Congress is full of little chickens, not Chicken Littles.
Outstanding observations, especially "groomed as a racketeer," "his sole reliance on extortion to get what he wants" and "our Congress is full of little chickens, not Chicken Little." P.S. My father was career Navy, too.
I don't get it, WHY GO THROUGH ALL THE TROUBLE OR THE INQUIRY INTO CONFIRMING HIM, IF THEY ARE JUST GOING TO DO IT ANYWAY, EVEN IF HE'S ANOTHER KRISTY NOEM IDIOT.
DO NOT CONFIRM HIM, HE'S NOT EVEN CLOSE TO QUALIFIED AND HE'S DUMBER THEN A ROCK.

This is dinero that is witheld from our LOCAL economy. Tourism is also dead. Muchas gracias Don Don.
I recommend Gloria J. Maloney's thrree part essay on Cuba.
As to the Epstein effect:
NYT Dealbook this morning:

Plus, he's a vefry competent grifter. His marks are primarily his followers.
I say again, Epstein may be the Achiiles Heel, causing epiphanies on many levels.
