How corrupt is our government now that it can just give away the oil reserve to further enhance the oil industry's already record profits, while everyone else struggles to fill their gas tank or buy food? Imagine getting to live in a house rent-free for years, then selling it back to your landlord--that's what this is like.

US Taxpayer's avatar

Not only rent free living - but generously getting paid to do so - then selling the home back to your landlord for 10x value.

Thom , family and staff, thank you for sharing your knowledge, experience and expertise with us. For decades you’ve helped us grow and build a community and movement that stands for justice for all and against the evils of Racism, which appears to be all that white supremacist, Trump is about, promoting racism and violence. Each new day brings a new outrage, a new advancement of corruption, incompetence, abuse, another assault on democracy. Yesterday, a corrupt, feckless, spineless Senate confirmed Todd Blanch as AG, possibly the most corrupt, unqualified, dishonest person ever to hold that position. New York State should disbar him, but won’t. The times cry out for an opposition party, but the corporate, establishment Democratic Party elites in control are not only as feckless as the Repugnicans, but committed to excluding, as too “radical”, aspirants challenging the corrupt, corrosive status quo. An octogenarian, I recently remarked to friends “I waffle between welcoming my more-or-less imminent demise and being pissed that I may not last long enough to see how this all shakes out”. Each new day reinforces those feelings.

Christopher Armitage has a solution, take it out of the hands of the Federal Government, do not expect the Legislature or Judiciary to take action, as both are corrupt and slop at the trough.

The several states are sovereign entities, per the Constitution and the 10th Amendment, and the Attorney Generals of the several states can take action against the President and the Attorney General Todd Blanche.

All that is required is courage. The governor can enforce laws, laws against murder, abduction, use of force against citizens and use the State Police to enforce the laws, same with Mayors and County prosecutors

Christopher Armitage is often a guest on Thom's TV show, at Free Speech TV, Here is a link to todays artilcle, and at the bottom are links to other ways to use the power of the state to thwart Trump, Homan, Blanche, McMullin https://cmarmitage.substack.com/p/this-state-law-makes-it-so-anyone

Agreed. I’m a Christopher Armitage subscriber. Evidence suggests he frightens and challenges the establishment perhaps more than actual Democrats like Bernie, AOC, Mamdani, El-Sayed, the DSA, etc. The Schumercrats are far more comfortable protecting the status quo, worrying about “electability” (functional surrender), writing strongly worded letters, than actually standing their ground and DOING something. Armitage offers solutions, something they manifestly abhor.

Yes, the "centrists" (center-right) do abhor solutions! They have more & more reason to loathe Mamdani 😁

YES! TH and CA together are terrific. Among the most gifted thinkers, historians, writers, proponents and protectors of democracy in our time. Add to that Heather Cox Richardson and the incredible Stacey Patton, PhD, whose Substack column is a must to better understand the history and horrific impact of racism in our country. Almost every horror DJT has inflicted on this great nation has been based in the cruel return to even more pronounced racism, sexism, homophobia, xenophobia, wholesale hatred of any “other”.

Thank God we have these Brave and knowledgeable communicators to analyze, report on, and provide historical context for how we can successfully get beyond this insane time. The damage done to hardworking immigrants and minorities across history, during the Damndemic, and now? I pray we come to our senses and tax the heck out of the broligarchy. Their earnings are everyone’s, as our taxes paid for the schools of their employees, the roads and bridges and infrastructures that made their fortunes possible. That people with $1.6 million or more were taxed at 70% over that amount 45 years ago? And what we have lost as those funds for the greater good were siphoned into the already fat coffers of the uber rich? What good has all of that hoarding done? We are in greater debt than ever. Homeless and hapless veterans struggle as do their families. We’re drowning in medical and education debt that, in other nations, is unthinkable. 500,000 Americans filed bankruptcy last year due to medical debt? That is “making America great again” while insurance C-suiters bank millions a year in salaries and stock buy back profits?

We DO need an overhaul. Desperately. Prayers for the strong, ethical, young leaders working to bring it. And the journalists such as TH, AC, HCR, and Stacey Patton who keep writing truth and urging action.

Our Grifter-in-Chief does not even try to hide his corruption. I noted that Witkoff gave a hearty endorsement to Don Jr's toy money Trumpto-crypto grift this weekend. Trump so wants to make that the same as a paper dollar. It makes his money laundering so much simpler to hide.

I finally realized that Project 2025 is actually Project 1925, to make America "Great" Again by going back a century. Women and people of color are being attacked for daring to maintain their rights, non-Christians are being disparaged, the equivalent of the Klan is back, corruption is running rampant, immigration has been shut down, the stock market has lost all effective controls, and the Good Neighbor Policy that FDR instituted has been replaced by, "Send in the Marines". It's the 1920s without the brilliance of new art forms. And we all know how that decade ended.

Brilliant summation of today.

Thank you. I probably should have added, "and science is under attack", but people get the idea.

ICE and immigration abuses happen and will continue because the Democratic party doesn't want to touch a hot stove, and that hot stove is immigration.

Trump is full bore on immigration, because that is what his base demands, and his base is supported by he media.

Trump's base is 35% of the country, and that 35% is dictating to the 65%.

Whether they admit it or not, the Democratic party, is running with that 35% limiting their actions and propaganda. Always cognizant and fearful of attacks from the right, whereas the right could care less of attacks from the left, and constantly press forwards as if they are on the moral high ground.

Frankly, we can all -- almost -- stop reading news now. Because we know two things to a certainty: it is going to get much worse in the next two months, and everything rides on November. That's it.

Charlie's avatar

I'd like to adjust the timeline? I'm anticipating craziness up to and including Nov. 3 and some period after. Then perhaps (probably?) there will be craziness around January 3rd. No idea what the craziness will look like, but this is war, and the enemy will strike.

I think-I hope- we'll (have to) keep reminding ourselves that we are in Ukraine, and we (or most of us) will get through it.

The fact that Trump has always been mentally dysfunctional is only now becoming apparent to some people, as his mental rot destroys even more lives.

The Clinton Administration's betrayal of traditional democratic political policy put in place by FDR and LBJ permanently turned me into an Independent. Bill Clinton turned out to be "Reagan-lite" which proved to have disastrous consequences for everyone--even corporate democrat goons like Rahm Emannuel and the unlamented James Carville. These boobs are skilled at snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. The Democratic "leadership" fight was unbelievable. Howard Dean had established a 50 State strategy that had paid off, duh. So naturally, the "Reagan-Lites" ignored Dean's success and forgot about trying to even court formerly traditional democratic FDR/LBJ voters. When you turn a blind eye to millions of red-state voters they are fair game for the Republican fascist message. But because "Clinton Lite" won two Presidential elections somehow that justified turning the Presidency tract over to Hillary. What did she do, besides standing by her (philandering) man that earned her that right? So now just when we're living in a dystopian Trumpian neo/fascist takeover, angry people are voting for Social Democrats and the Corporate Dems are in a panic. I fully expect that despite the fact that Trump is literally destroying our nation and huge majorities are finally waking up, that the Dems will once again snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

It’s all about accountability in elections, folks. WE the People hold the cards. No matter how many fascist executive orders, no matter how many $$$ are spent, no matter how much fascist gerrymandering, no matter how much fascist data manipulation, no matter how much voter intimidation by the fascists in power is brought, WE still have the power to vote Representatives in or out of office.

So the squeaker of the House Mike Johnson tried to keep an Arizona member elect Grijalva from being seated at the start of the Congress. But this was just a trial run for the fascist House Republicans. They will try this same gambit in November after the House turns to a Democratic majority which will then have to be litigated through the federal courts and eventually to SCOTUS which can stall their hearing of the case. Democrats can ill afford to be stalled in their agenda.

There needs to be an insurrection against the House fascist Republicans and Mike Johnson. WE the People need to demand from our Democratic and fascist Republican representatives that trying to prevent Democratic members elect will be met with election animus. WE need to let red and blue Representatives know that if WE don’t hear them refuse to endorse such an unseating fiasco on the campaign trail, they will see electoral defeat.

So get on the phone tell your Congressional red or blue representatives that this will be an issue in the upcoming midterm elections 202.224.3121.
