Our species is devolving, Thom. That we voted this regime into power is the greatest indictment of our system and our country ever. We allowed the morbidly rich to destroy us. SCOTUS was their main weapon, declaring corporations persons, money speech, and eliminating all controls over political contributions via dark money. It all starts and ends with money, the power it brings, the corruption that inevitably generates and magnifies.
Will the MAGAts finally see the error of their ways when they can't afford gasoline or food or pay the rent? Don't count on it. As long as they see whatever "other" matters to them suffering more, they will be satisfied. They are that ignorant and limited.
Then look at Europe. The scores of their fifteen year olds on all the major areas of knowledge necessary to cope with life have reached their lowest levels ever in most cases. Literacy and numeracy are down in the developed world, and in the toilet everywhere else. That gives power to demagogues with simple, erroneous messages. Especially those blaming others for the plight of those being propagandized.
Meanwhile we keep burning more and more fossil fuels, further overheating the planet. We keep eating too much meat. We keep paving too much land. We keep consuming too much, period.
The way we are going, the world will end with a bang AND a whimper. Lots of both, really.

I also want to mention that the video you presented was incredibly informative and well done. One of the facts stated from the video that was most stark and jarring to me and was that "Truth" used to be based on "evidence", "facts" and "reason" but now has been supplanted by knowing "Truth" solely based on "Authority". Furthermore, as was stated in the video, that "Authority" today has been defined by a "Christian Nationalist Worldview where the ruling class writes the rules for everyone else".
