• America goes full banana republic as Trump plays dictator and succeeds in finding a lawyer who’ll step into the DOJ and prosecute James Comey. More revenge prosecutions are expected.

• Every country that’s put its central bank equivalent of our Federal Reserve under political instead of professional control has ended up with rampant inflation and economic disaster.

• Trump shows — with billions of our tax dollars — how wannabee authoritarians like to stick together.

• Get ready for your drug prices to jump as much as 100 percent next month.

• Geeky Science: Contrary to what Trump and Bob Kennedy told us this week, pregnant women who fail to take Tylenol during pregnancy for fever are putting their unborn children at risk.

— On the Democrats’ demand that Trump and the GOP undo their cuts to Obamacare and Medicaid to avoid a government shutdown, Trump’s White House is giving them (and us) the middle finger. Literally. A Trump official told Politico the decision was the president’s, saying, “He read all the shit they’re asking for, and he said, ‘On second thought, go fuck yourself.’” Democrats are trying to prevent the 75% increases in Obamacare premiums on the horizon starting in January, and an estimated 18 million people losing Medicaid (including millions in nursing homes and about half of all babies born in hospitals), all resulting from the so-called Big Beautiful Bill that used our healthcare dollars to pay for a $3.5 trillion tax-break-bonus to America’s billionaires. Another Trump official was blunt, saying, “We’re going to extract maximum pain,” from Democrats and the American people, adding that Trump’s opponents “will pay a huge price for this.” Funding for the government runs out on September 30th, and the Republicans’ latest threat is to begin mass firings when that happens if Democrats don’t roll over and do exactly what Trump wants. Brace yourself; this is going to get ugly. That said, negotiating with hostage takers and bullies rarely ends well: Democrats plan to stand firm and so far everything suggests that Schumer and Jeffries have finally grown spines.
