It's odd that the story about one-third of those on the left describing themselves as "democratic socialists" is presented as some sort of thunderclap of radicalization. All it says to me is that a third of Democrats align themselves with Franklin Roosevelt. As Count Floyd would say, "Ooh, scary!" The question is, why aren't all Democrats democratic socialists?

Last night Bill Maher devoted a good portion of his show to demonizing DSA, by harping on the most radical and extremists and their positions .

Maher is a self absorbed, selfish libertarian, and everything is about him.

He went on and on with rants against modern medicine, masking and vaxing, because the COVID crisis cost him money and more important the adulation he sorely needs to bolster his fragile ego. His shoe went on hiatus for a year during the COVID crisis because there was no live audience, same with masking, I do note however that he got the COVIS Vaccine, as did Donnie.

I am a Teddy Roosevelt Republican.... Otherwise known as a Democratic Socialist.

The key for me, as a white, upper-middle-class educated professional, is No Corporate or PAC money. Otherwise, the politician is not working for the people; they are working for the corporations.

It's actually quite simple... I am a Peopleatist...

There are 94 days till the midterm elections, and we have to keep "singing" everyday till then and every way we can after that. CORRUPTION! WARS! MURDER! LIES! We can get through this horror by sticking together. See you in the streets, friends.

Those of us who are not corporate, establishment Democrats must constantly, pointedly, question the motives, complacency, and behavior of those who are.

Given what I am reading here, on JVL, on Kinzinger, seeing how many people are being killed or terribly injured by the MAGA "leaders" and the morbidly rich, at a rapidly accelerating rate, I have just one question: why are the key players in the plutocracy still breathing? Maybe the desperate are waiting to see if November offers hope of some change before taking it to the streets and their gun safes. But it is a bit puzzling. Not that I would do that myself, partly because we are not desperate, being white, not poor, living in northern California in a safely blue area.

But looking at that Sardinia study, I have to wonder why I am still here as well. I am the opposite of optimistic about just about everything. I applaud those working hard to make things better, but I fear they are putting their too few fingers in a huge dike filled with holes and about to fail.

The part about Iran going after our water supplies is telling. They can, and will, hit us where we live. And while I abhor radical Islam and all that Islam does, really, I cannot blame Iran for doing that. We are going to learn that we can't just make war on anyone we want for the benefit of the felon in chief, his family and his cronies without paying for that, big time. We are so far from the nation triumphant after WWII that I want to vomit. Please, everyone, do what you can to make November a historic win for America, which means a thundering defeat for all things MAGA.

Tom, here you are talking about longevity again. It is the overwhelming theme of advertising and commerce. But NO ONE acknowledges that I have the secret of anti-aging, and of potential immortality. It is a cheap, safe, natural supplement called DHEA. I began taking a tiny dose at age 48, gradually increasing to replace my natural supply, and now at 78 I'm just as healthy and almost as youthful-looking, with the same energy and sex drive. I don't know if it can help someone of your age, but you seem healthy, youthful and energetic, so maybe you can share my success. See my book DHEAlthy: Never Get Old on Amazon Kindle or Audible. "How I live infinitely without aging. The book includes exhaustive functional info and my very credible evolutionary hypothesis of how and why it works.

I think it is a matter of genes, lifestyle and attitude. For instance I inherited a gene (thanks Mom) for diabetes. I am insulin resistant, diagnosed in 2006, 2017 , stage 4 brain and lung cancer. Actually lung cancer metastasized to the brain. A craniotomy and w years of triweekly infusion with Keytruda, and I am in remission, doctor says I am a miracle.

There is one thing different, that sets me aside. I have eaten onlyh three pieces of chicken (frid) and one slice of turkey breast, and the only pork I've eaten, and rarely, is bacon and ham. I can't stand the taste and texture of fresh pork.

Based on my personal experience I would suggest, that if you want a long life, don't eat fowl or pig.

Oh I am 87, yesterday I mowed the lawn, burned the trash, do the dishes , clean and dust, my wife has fibomyalgia andis handicapped, me too butnot as bad as she.

Keep moving and sharing your ideas and opinions. It will keep you young.

William Farrar's avatar

Thanks Gloria, young at heart maybe.

The brain is a complex organ, which I don't think we will ever fully understand

Oct 4, 2017 the surgeon, Dr V from India, cut open my skull, removed a tangerine sized tumor depressing my right occipital causing left side blindness.

In the process he removed some good stuff. Two months in rehab, Still lost my sense of balance, all kind of exercises never got it back. I can't read my own writing, can't even write a grocery list, but I can type.

I type mailing address and my return address and affix them to envelopes with scotch tape.

I stutter when speaking, and sometimes when typing. Spell check is better than sliced bread.

I was once an avid reader, I have gone through three personal libraries, but I can't read a book anymore, I lose my place at the end of a sentence.

Not much better on the computer, I have learned to skim

People who type with a stream of consciousness, with paragraphs containing more thant hree sentences or non sto sentences like Jack Keuoac's "On the Road"

(Have you tried to read that, the only way to read it is to get stoned)

Lol. You have had quite a time with your health. You are one of those people who wants to live and keeps on doing what you want to do as long as you can. Looking after your wife will motivate you as well. Keep commenting. You have so much to offer.

Not just my wife Gloria, but my kitties as well, four of them An Ocicat, we had two, but one had congestive heart failure, a rescue mom and her kit,to salve my soul with theloss of the other Ocicat (Kendra) and a barn cat, big black male, that adopted us. I have to stay around for all of them. no time for self pity.

I also keep as physically possible as I can. I mow the property, however I have a Toro ride mower and 5 acres to mow.

I think thereare other things in the mix as well. That is the pollution that you are subjected to where you live and what kind of work you did for the corporation you worked

for. Another factor would be if you were ever in the military, The military is one of tjhe worst polluters of the planet-even on their own bases.

I live in Fort Bragg, CA and the lumber mill that has almost completely clear cut the old growth area. It was on of the major employers of this area. There are many people here who have died of cancer due to working for the lumber corporation. Because of the pollution in its areas of operation.

William Farrar's avatar

My family migrated to Ashley Co. Arkansas in 1859, in 1898 a carpet, bagger from Des Moines, Iowa bought up the land and build a sawmill, in 1962, the Kochs, bought the Crossett Lumber Company, and converted it to a pulpmill and makes Angel soft, TP and cardboard

The plant is a major pollutant, every family in the town is affected by cancer, I have lost an aunt and cousins. Crossett had the distinction of being Cancer capital of the US..

My Dad joined the Marines at 18, his sister, her husband, and brother moved to Cancer Alley, at the outset of WWII, to work in the refineries that were being constructed, my mother and I lived in company housing during the war, till Dad came back and we moved to Quantico.

Cancer reached my family there as well, my uncle, and cousins, 1st and 2nd.

I did 26 years in special operations. I was exposed to Jet fuel and exhaust jumping out of airplanes. I am 87 and doing fine, all considered, my only health problems are genetic, diabetes, actually insulin resistance, and lung cancer (from smoking, in remission since 2017)

My present location, the Salish sea is pollution free, and the best year round weather in all of America.

I have a warning for all CA citizens. Trump is about to attempt to overrule CA's ability to regulate development by the oil corporations off its Pacific coast.

Donald Trump has launched a new federal review. This review threatens the future of how California’s coastline is managed. Trump is proposing to expand offshore oil drilling and restart offshore oil pipeline infrastructure. To comment on this insane proposal please communicate with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). There are two ways to do this.

Moral Decline In America?

Morality of a society goes beyond political party, power, or money.

What happens to a society that governs itself and it excuses the inexcusable? What happens when the largest sex trafficking in American history is dismissed to protect the guilty? What happens when your Congressional representative allows a person who denies a leader’s electoral victory? And what happens when a society votes for a liar to be the leader of the country? What happens when a group in a society accepts that their leader is immorally fit for office? What happens when the institution that supports the laws decides that morality is not important? And what happens when people decide elections can be bought?

If that is the society WE the People believe WE have then WE are doomed. MSM may not cover the morality of the US but by polling WE are incensed with what OUR country has become. WE can decide and I would submit that outraged Americans expect more from those who expect to lead our country.

WE expect accountability of OUR government or those representing us will be voted out of office. WE will not accept $$$ to buy elections just because it’s expedient. America is at a moral tipping point when OUR decisions go beyond political party. Voting is how WE the People will correct our moral compass. And WE will use OUR sphere of influence to help make OUR course change because that’s not who WE are.

STOP referring to yourselves as “democratic socialists.” You AREN’T! You’re capitalists….welfare capitalists, like we’ve had for over 100 years, including Republicans Teddy Roosevelt and Eisenhower, in addition to FDR, Truman and LBJ. Even Nixon was in favor of national healthcare in the early 1970s. You are letting MAGA paint you as socialists. You AREN’T. You are Democratic Capitalists. The official Democratic Socialists of America organization is a fringe extremist group. I wouldn’t be surprised if they were funded by Republicans to hurt the Democratic Party. On the other hand, based on their policies and agenda, I wouldn’t have to refer to the GOP as The Republican Fascist Party, or The Republican Authoritarian Party.

Gloria, you look familiar. Did you also like some of my trenchant comments on Randi Rhodes' blog? Such as FIRE ICE, or STOP ICING AMERICANS, or DEJA NAM, or THE KING IS MAD, GOD BLAST THE KING? I'm old but have a vibrant memory so I give good commentary. Alas, I'm out here on the West Coast, far from all the current Washington DC madness.
