It's horrific. Added to the Monsanto ruling, which appears to have pissed off MAHA royally, the only silver lining I can see is that these rulings may keep court reform at the top of the must do list. (13 justices are needed to match 13 judicial districts: 94 districts are organized into 12 regional circuits, each with its own Court of Appeals. There is also a 13th circuit (the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit) that hears specialized national cases). The only thing tempering that is Americans' notoriously short attention span.

Hal Brown's avatar

The Supreme Court rules and not only to many people suffer but some of the die.

The problem with court reform being on the top of the must do list is that it is OUR must do list and right now we are powerless to do what needs to be done. I also don't think we needed any additional impetus to convince us that to preserve our democracy court reform is a MUST DO.

A relative had a classmate die most likely from not wearing protective facial gear when spraying a family owned golf course (not sure if it was RoundUp but that would be my first guess), and a former roommate die (she used RoundUp extensively on her flower beds). Oh the convenience of not having to pull weeds by hand and the real kicker for me is the propaganda of it all when one realizes that the Glysophate will probably kill you or at least make you sick long before the weeds will, if at all ! Remember DuPont bringing Teflon into the world. SCOTUS really stands for Supreme Cruelty Of T’s United States. And for all you deregulation freaks, regulations are for health and safety for the most part !! Just channelling my anger ! Thanks Sabrina !!

Round up is glycophosphate. In my county, Amazon will not ship, and the local hardware stores will not carry Brush and blackberry killer which is not glycophosphate, but their shelves are full of Round up and other weed and grass killers. To get rid of blackberries and Hawthornes, you have to hire a local company which cuts and pulls.

The order had to come from the county commissioners, if so the reason is specious, If the reason was that Brush and Blackberry Killer harms the environment, then Round Up is even just as if not more harmful to the environment and people.

While there is a lot of chatter among liberals about impeaching Trump and his corrupt toadies, let us not overlook Alito & Thomas. Also, Merrill Goozner (https://gooznews.substack.com/p/social-movements-role-in-change) provides some history that nicely complements Thom's post today.

All of these Republicans are part of a fascist death cult.

Repeating that often would be my suggestion for Goozner. Thanks for the article, Tomonthebeach.

Proof that a picture is, sometimes, worth 1000 words.

Hal Brown's avatar

The words readers never see are all the prompts I give ChatGPT to make the images say the 1000 words. Some well known Substacker are saying what my pictures said today in 1000 or more words. I talked to Thom about the contribution Louise makes by using AI to make illustrations for his Substacks.

Sabrina Haake's avatar

love the autopen Hal!

Hal Brown's avatar

Thanks Sabrina, but credit to ChatGPT for helping make the ludicrous illustration fit what I pictured in my mind. I am looking forward to a Substack from you about what SCOTUS did - and if you want your own illustration let me know exactly what you want it to show and I'll try to make it for you. Thom has Louise make his using one of the AI illustration programs.

They found graffiti created by the workers inside the pyramids.

Hmm, no. Sorry. A 19th Century explorer, Col Howard Vyse was, like most well placed men of that era, hungry to make a name for himself. When they broke through to the "Queens" chamber, he rushed in and using black pain sribbled the cartouche of Kofu (Cheops), and the Egyptian antiquinarians and frauds like Hawi Zahass were and are all too glad to perpetuate the hoax, because it bolsters their ethno chauvinism and inferiority complex.

It also stands in the way of the truth, that the pyramids are thousands of years older than stated, and did not serve as burial chambers or monuments, but had a practical purpose. Some have written treatises that they were a hydraulic pump, or a source of energy. Davidovitz examined the stones themselves, found human hair in them and claims that the pyramids were poured.

In any event they had technology that we don't have even today.

I don't know anything about Egyptology though my partner's son is the chair of the Dept. of of Egyptology and Assyriology at Brown. I was curious, so instead of asking him about this I asked Chat and this is what it said when I sent it exactly what you wrote:

Mostly not true. It’s a conspiracy-theory stack with a few real names mixed in.

Vyse did blast into the upper relieving chambers in 1837, and red workers’ marks/cartouches naming Khufu were reported there. But the “Vyse painted them himself” claim is not accepted by mainstream Egyptology. Harvard’s Giza project says the graffiti identifies Khufu as the monument’s owner, and PBS/NOVA notes work-gang names such as “Friends of Khufu” above the King’s Chamber.

The broader claim that the Great Pyramid is “thousands of years older,” not connected to Khufu, and was a hydraulic pump/energy device is unsupported by archaeological evidence. There is also later independent evidence tying Khufu’s reign to pyramid logistics: the Wadi al-Jarf/Merer papyri describe crews moving limestone to Giza during Khufu’s reign.

Davidovits did argue that some pyramid blocks were cast/reconstituted limestone, and there has been limited materials-science debate around that. But it is not the mainstream view, and it does not prove the pyramids were older, fake, or energy machines.

Also, the attack on Zahi Hawass as “Hawi Zahass” and the ethnic/psychological smear is just ad hominem, not evidence.

William Farrar's avatar

Who can argue with AI chat, Next to god, it is the ultimate source.

By the way. A year ago I asked AI generative about the orgin of SNP Y-YP5578, and what I got in response was almost verbatim something I had written in an email to a DNA project member.

As I said, it is to be expected that Egyptologists don't accept the Howard Vyse explanation, Professional Eyptologist and the country of Egypt have their social status, prestige, income based on perpetuating their myth.

As regards archaelogical evidence, the interior of the great pyramid has no heiroglyphs drawing, no recitation from the Book of the Dead, nothing that is associated with pharonic burials, i.e. it is not a tomb. Nor does the tunnels, shafts, even down under the pyramid make sense.

I am surprised you would report that it was a conspiracy theory, isn't that always the way to shut up skeptics.

As far as me using an ad hominem for Hawass, etc. Saying that I am guilty of using an ad hominem is in itself an ad hominem. Meant to shut me up and make me looking foolish or derganged.

There is evidence a plenty if only people looked around, I have books on anomalies and enigmas, on the unexplained/ There are even documentaries and you tubes that bring into question these unexplained, enigmas and anomalies,

However if you wish to accept the status quo, and cede your powers of critical and deductive reasoning to others Have at it. only realize that throughout time, the official and accepted explanations have been proven wrong, from Gallielo and Copernic to Hapgood, Wegner, and Taylor.

The latter ventured the theory of continental drif and were called kooks and kranks, and laughed out of their professions. fast forward a half century, too late for them, their theory is retrieved by called plate tectonics

And there is no perdone me, apology, in text books for Taylor and Wegener.

Here is another, the sacrosanct Siberianlandbridge hypothesis, is sacred and untouchable, but ignore some facts.

The oldest evidence of advanced civilization is in South America and as you travel north, the technology and engineer degrades, until yo get to North America where the best you can find are the Mississipi mounts of the Cahokia Civilization.

The oldest evidence that has been actually tested, is from a compfire in a cave and it is 40,000 years old in Peru or Chile.

The DNA of American Indians shows that they are from north east Asia, that of South Americans is from south east Asia.

The Paracus skulls of Peru have been DNA tested and show an admixture including Mediterranean.

All of this is heresy, all of this conspiracy theory, all of this threatens and invalidates hundreds of thousands of PhD, theses, books, professional careers , income and social status.

If they could they would burn heretics and skeptics at a stake, just like the Catholic church did, or behead them as Islamic theocracies do.

From ChatGPT:

Smithsonian — “The Egyptian Pyramid”

Mentions quarry-worker marks and named work gangs on pyramid blocks. https://www.si.edu/spotlight/ancient-egypt/pyramid

PBS NOVA — “Who Built the Pyramids?”

Best readable explanation of crew names like “Friends of Khufu” and “Drunkards of Menkaure.” https://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/pyramid/explore/builders.html

Harvard Magazine — “Who Built the Pyramids?”

Explains George Reisner’s discovery of workers’ graffiti and what it shows about organized labor units. https://www.harvardmagazine.com/2003/07/who-built-the-pyramids-html

Archaeology Magazine — “Journeys of the Pyramid Builders”

Good deeper article on the Wadi el-Jarf papyri, which complement the graffiti evidence.

https://archaeology.org/issues/july-august-2022/features/egypt-wadi-el-jarf-port-papyri

The key point: this “graffiti” wasn’t modern vandalism. It was red-ochre quarry or mason marks, often hidden inside construction spaces, showing crew names and helping prove the pyramids were built by organized workers, not Hollywood-style slave gangs.

William Farrar's avatar

See my comment below. Workers marks on stones from the quarry, don't prove that the stones were used in the pyramid, Egyptians had many, many construction projects from Luxor to Hatsheput

There are other sites, which should advanced cutting and drilling techniques. one block shows evidence of five saws at work cutting thin slabs from a granite block, another shows evidence of drilling not a circle but a series of holes around a center.

And there is the very delicate carved schist when looks like an impeller but is called a bowl.

We are not stuck with these six robed fascists. They are not unimpeachable. Several are justifiably impeachable and should be impeached.

We are not stuck with the fascist decisions of these six fascists; as Thom points out, Congress writes laws the president is constitutionally required to enforce.

We are not stuck with nine Supreme Court justices. Failure to expand the Court has resulted in the worst threat to our democracy since the Civil War. Elie Mystal, Chris Armitage, Jamie Raskin have some excellent suggestions here. Expansion of the Court is overdue and demonstrably necessary. Oligarchs currently in charge of America have no interest in democracy. They are free to abuse the system to overthrow it only to the degree we let them.

When we finally have a Democratic President with a Democratic majority in the Senate, the nominations for four more Justices should be made within the hour of the President being sworn in. The list can be made immediately after the election, so it's ready to go. We CANNOT have another Biden-type presidency and Schumer-type inaction in the Senate. The gloves must come out! NO MORE NICE GUY!!

Hal Brown's avatar

Absolutely crucial that the Democrats win a majority in the Senate. If Democrats held a true Senate majority (for example, 51–49, or 50–50 with a Democratic vice president to break ties), they could block a Supreme Court nominee or almost any other nominee that requires Senate confirmation. The only fly in the ointment -- and using the word fly is a complement for him -- is Sen. Fetterman because if he crossed over, they’d need 52 Democrats/independents to still have 51 “no” votes. With only 51, one defection makes it 50–50, and VP JD Vance could break the tie for Trump. Fetterman has already shown willingness to split from Democrats on some Trump votes.

When I saw the news about the Supreme Court rulings yesterday about immigration I became as angry as I have ever been. I cursed & shouted at the TV, I called my Representative, I cursed & shouted some more at the TV, not at my Rep!

I look at this from two perspectives. The first being the humanitarian side. Sending people back to wartorn country, or devastation because of natural disasters, failed states is detestable. I'd like to see Lily white Amy Coney Barret dropped off in the middle of a gang controlled section in Haiti, we could split the boys between Sudan & the Democratic Republic of Congo & see how they enjoy the hospitality. I may not have experienced the terrible things these people have but I don't have to. I have empathy, I have a moral compass, I can share the bounty of this country with people who come here & work & add to our social fabric & economy & the Treasury. It's not hard, it's the right thing to do. Oh, and by the way it's what "Jesus would do!"

The second thing to look at is financial in nature. Just who are these fascists in Washington going to get to do the jobs that white people won't do? Whose going to wipe babies bottoms & maybe grampas bottoms when they need cleaning. Whose going to fill the roll of caregivers. Is AI going to do it? Will they take that many people out of the work force & small business & hollow out the country.

Cutting off their noses to make all the faces they see are white, is that their aim? Of course, they could take it one step further, they could enslave any white person remaining here that doesn't agree with them. That would fill the requirement of filling jobs. Much like the Nazis we're going to take the lands to the east & use the "indigenous" population to do the work since they were only half human at best.

We had better be very watchful & careful.

For the past week I watched roofers replace the roof on the duplex across the street from mine. Two days it was 100 degree and two were in in nineties and the others in the eighties. Four of the five roofers were Hispanic. Except for a lunch break under a shade tree, they were on the hot roof lugging heavy bags of shingles and large plywood sheets and using heavy nail guns.

Some only spoke Spanish - I know this because I had to ask two of them to move a vehicle that was making it hard to get out of my driveway by using gestures because they didn't understand English.

They were always friendly and responded to my "buenos dias" and "hola" greetings with smiles.

Even in the heat they wore long-sleeved shirts. They never seemed bother by the heat.

Here legally or not, Hispanics are an integral part of our economy and their presence is part of what makes America great - not MAGA great - but democracy great.

Representative Robert Garcia said yesterday that the three major congressional committees are going to be ready and willing to take these people to task as soon as the new Congress is seated.

There is no other word than murder for what the result will be from these decisions. Beyond Judicial Oversight, impeachment, and a packed Court the Devil awaits the arrival of the Supreme Court Six.

Thank you, Thom and Company, for all your hard work. See you in the streets.

I’ve come into possession of the transcript of Leonard Leo interviewing candidates for Supreme Court Umpires. This is very revealing, as it contradicts the sworn public testimony of Justice Roberts where he said would just call “balls and strikes”!

Here is the part we all need to see… The interview of the 3 candidates to be an umpire:

Leo: “Okay #1, tell me how you make your calls.”

She says, “Well, I call them as I see them.”

“Leo: Fine. Next, you - #2?”

“I call ‘em as They Are.”

Leo: “Very well, and you, Mr. Roberts?”

Roberts: “Sir, respectfully… They ain’t nothing until I call ‘em. And then, that’s what they are.”

Leo: “Congratulations, you’re hired! Welcome to your new lifetime job as a Judicial Monarch, where you will have decades to impose our conservative doctrines upon the nation. This is where you can cherry pick our preferred cases, and declare an obvious “Foul Ball” as a “Grand Slam Homer” when it suits our agenda.”

Vote in November for a Democratic Senate and House. That will help stop Trump appointments to the Supreme Court and allow for investigation and impeachment of corrupt SC judges where the facts so show. Not enough focus on this issue ahead of the midterms.

The SCOTUS majority might as well just come out and say what the law is in their minds: it's okay if Republicans do it. If we are considering skin color as the determination of race, then why should any non-Red person be allowed to seek refuge from persecution on this continent? Our forebears, who were often members of persecuted religious or ethnic minorities in Europe, should have been refused at the shoreline, and we, as their descendants, should have no birthright citizenship. Fortunately for us, the Native Americans didn't, and do not now, have our understanding of how civilization works.

Lana May's avatar

This is a self-coop (Kleptocracy/Oligarchy) and the Six Supreme Court Justices are Traitors - along with the Republican Congress, Donald J. Trump, Mike Johnson, Stephen Miller, John Thune, Steve Scalise, Susan Collins, et al, along with the creators of Project 2025, Russell Vought, Paul Dans, Peter Navarro, Peter Groves, and The Heritage Foundation, to name a few. We need to face the facts: these people are NOT working for the benefit of our Republic and the American people; they are working to gorge themselves in wealth and control the world.

Robert B. Elliott's avatar

"Just a few years later, the same conservative bloc reasoned its way to blocking Joe Biden’s student debt relief, insisting Congress would never hand a president that kind of authority without saying so in unmistakable language."

In all of the instances of this nature, I do not believe that "reasoned" is the best word to apply. The reactionary justices are using rationalizations and illogic to evade actual reason and logic. Their thinking is careless, sloppy, and self-serving like the thinking of a pre-adolescent child. This is a habit which is common and commonly accepted among religious people who have been immersed in such thinking in institutions such as churches and schools where superstitious ideas and mythology are the daily fare. When you can simply displace responsibility and mature decision-making by turning every matter of choice or controversy over to a magical supreme being or an authority figure, you can justify anything and twist any logic to fit into your frame. These people have no intention of ever using their brain or relying on precedent and measures of justice when they can allow themselves to remain on autopilot and base all their decisions on ideological and religious imperatives. The Constitution has no significance for them because it was drafted by mortal humans.
