Republicans and other authoritarians need one big strong leader to be the focus of their adoration. Apparently they need a focal point for their enmity too. They think in black and white, good guys/bad guys, nothing in-between; they simply do not do nuance. It's how their brains function.

There is a concentrated group trying to destroy Dr. Fauci. They have not succeeded, and I wish they knew how stupid, scared and ridiculous they look. Exhibit A is Rand Paul with his effort to disgrace the good doctor by insisting as head of NIAID, Dr. Fauci backed the Chinese "gain-of-function" research that led to the novel covid-19 virus. This fallacy is based on the kind of evidence the Republicans use about the election, it could only have happened the way it did, because that's how it happened in my head.

Will Dr. Fauci retire before the pandemic does? Only he knows, but although it goes against his nature, he has learned to call a US senator a liar to his face and in front of the nation. Republicans went for the cost/benefit ratio as they always do--lives be damned. America the Corporation is their goal, and we have to fight on.
