The Senate Judiciary Committee hearing was part of a criminal insurrection supporting a lawless fascist autocracy. The hearing was disgusting as a display of total corruption and refusal to enforce the law with equal justice.
Republicans falsely attacked Jack Smith as special prosecutor for prosecuting Trump between November 2022 and late 2024. Republicans ignored all the evidence of Trump’s felony crimes including inciting the January 6, 2021, violent insurrection at the Capitol and seditious conspiracy with fake electors and other criminal actions to overturn the 2020 election.
The hearing confirmed what Progressive Democrats must do after winning the presidency and control of the House and Senate. The first action in 2029 by Progressive Democrats elected in 2028 must be enforcement of the federal criminal felony law against insurrection to prosecute, convict, and imprison insurrectionist felons including Trump, members of his administration, Republicans in Congress, six justices on the Supreme Court and multiple billionaire oligarch including Musk. According to the federal criminal law against insurrection 18 U.S. Code § 2383, a felony crime is committed by “Whoever incites, sets on foot, assists, or engages in any rebellion or insurrection against the authority of the United States or the laws thereof, or gives aid or comfort thereto, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than ten years, or both; and shall be incapable of holding any office”.
Repugnicans never miss an opportunity to forcefully demonstrate their utter distain for democracy, honesty, integrity, honor, decency, patriotism, virtually any desirable characteristic we might seek in our governance. They have in the clearest possible terms shown us precisely who they are, what they believe, what they value. Anyone who fails to believe any of them in any capacity is a fool.

I have to agree with both of you. It is hard to believe the pervasive spinelessness and complete moral degradation of one entire group of republican senators. But then, I have seethed for years over the actions of Mitch McConnell while he was Senate Majority Leader. The dirt bag tricks he pulled to make the Supreme Court what it is today. I believe it was Gym Jordan of Ohio that initiated these hearings. Jordan reminds me of a boy in Sunday school that has no idea of what anything means but knows all the right answers for the Sunday school teacher, he just isn't smart enough to understand any of it.
The article reminded me of the comments made by McConnell, Graham and other republicans that denounced the insurrection and a few days after decide that "well maybe it wasn't that bad" with Ron Johnson chiming in "I didn't see anything that bad". This tribe of amoral fucks have been infiltrating our government for some time now. So to see what happened yesterday in the hearing shouldn't really be a surprise to anyone, it just tells just how little integrity this nation has anymore .

The performance yesterday by Eric Schmitt should have been humiliating but was not. We should all be calling his office and asking for Joseph McCarthy.The same for John Kennedy.
