As federal investigators knock on doors tied to California's governor, critics warn America is sliding toward the politics of Nixon, Richelieu, and Stalin…
The good news is that Trump's campaign against Newsom is because Trump knows Newsom just happens to have the smarts and the integrity to bring Trump down. Let's make sure this backfires on Trump.
This phony investigation of Newsom and his wife is an assassination attempt--character assassination--in anticipation of his running for president in 2028. Republicans know they can't run on the issues and win, because they are wrong on all the issues. And they can't run on character, because they are destitute of character. So they hug the flag, hug the cross, appeal to peoples' basest fears and resentments, and sling unfounded accusations. If they can soften up support for their opponent enough to make the election close, then they can steal it.
The system is indeed broken. Congress, charged with oversight by the Constitution, has abandoned that responsibility in the interest of re-election. Term limits within this system would only aggravate the problem, as entrenched establishment money would surely explode in importance and influence. In addition to a few courageous senators and representatives, we need public campaign financing, Ranked Choice Voting, and blue state governors flexing their considerable muscle as per Christopher Armitage. Expecting any president to resolve the core problem is a fool’s errand, especially when that office is granted unlimited power by a corrupt, derelict Congress and a corrupt, fascist Supreme Court.
Trump's tactic is to investigate and prosecute all who have offended him, or pose a threat. That leaves the opposition with the only option of selecting a spotless, "virgin Mary". Everyone has skeletons in their closet.like a tattoo they got when drunk and showing off to be one of the guys.
Our only response is to set aside the demand that our politicians be morally and ethnically pure (and no one is), but is that enough, the DOJ can manipulate the grand jury system, until they find one that will bring in a desired result, and the subsequent trial can not only bankrupt a defendant but scar them in public, and detract from their campaign. They don't have to convict, all they have to do is accuse, and use the legal system as proof.
"Our only response is to set aside the demand that our politicians be morally and ethnically pure (and no one is)"...
We kind of set that aside when Trump was elected.
Malicious prosecution is supposed to be a way to avoid going after your opponent for political reasons, but the legal system has been morphed into a complicated mess, and unless you kind find and afford an attorney who will defy the system on your behalf, good luck.
Totally agree. We don't and haven't had a Justice system we have had a legal system, the rule of law has been used to keep the unwashed masses under control.
If you have wealth and position, you can commit murder and get away with it, if you are a minority you can go to prison for 15 years or more for possession of a joint.
Corporations have murdered hundreds of thousands, and at very best have paid a piddling fine, which is the cost of doing business and is tax deductible, but no officer or board members are even tried.
"justice for us, the law for the rest," points to a two-tiered reality where one group benefits from protections and privileges, while everyone else faces strict adherence to the rules.
The police motto of "to serve and protect" needs to be completed because it is the public that they are serving and protecting, but the power elite.
In one way, the old westerns are correct, the US Marshals, the Town clown, the Sheriff's real job and who they really answered to, were the people who virtually owned and controlled the town. And so it is today, from the town, to the county, to the state, to the federal government.
We are kept in control by the judicious application of fear, meanwhile the elite, the powers that be, have no constraints (witness the Epstein Files, not one of thousands of perps have paid the price, nor will they, at most, Andrew Mountbatten Windsor is being charged, not with rape, or child abuse, but for endangering the national security of the UK.
No one is crazier or more corrupt than Trump, yet he continues to have power over people he wrongly accuses. Why do these foolish republicans go along with this . Is every single Republican totally without scruples . Or have they become so adept at “ vicious” that it’s become their theme.
Stephen Miller lyingly conjures up all kinds of
Offenses based on his twisted perceptions of what power can do . He is a constant feeder of trash to this atrociously corrupt Leader of the Lie.
Trump no longer even bothers to pretend to be presidential in any regard .
He spends all his time with trolling vanity projects that he thinks makes him more important and lying about how much they “ won’t cost taxpayers” .
The rest of time he checks his vengeance list , making sure he hasn’t missed anyone who bothered his withered little heart. And clearly his narcolepsy fills in the rest of his time . We need to ‘get him out of Dodge’ and soon .
Unfortunately, this is nothing new in America. From the Japanese interment camps when virtually any Japanese person could be pulled from their home and placed in a cage to the McCarthy era in which anyone who spoke out against the government was labeled a Commie to Obama's Christmas Eve ICE raids abducting Central American women and children and placing them in cages of his design to the genocide in Gaza which saw literal witch hunts against those speaking out against Biden, Trump and Israel (a subject you never mention for some reason...), this country has always used state power to crush dissent. Trump just does it out in the open which is scary indeed, but Obama's record prosecutions of journalists was just as concerning to me yet somehow it didn't get a rise out of the nation's number one progressive talker.
This is what these scum have in mind. The Fugitive Slave Law of 1850.
Especially these most salient aspects.
n.b. for "fugitive or slave" substitute "OPPONENT." for $10 substitute $250,000
1. The denial of testimony (the core due‑process void)
“In no trial or hearing under this act shall the testimony of such alleged fugitive be admitted in evidence.”
This is the single most draconian clause: the accused cannot speak.
2. The commissioner payment bias (the structural corruption)
“He shall be entitled to a fee of ten dollars… upon the delivery of the said certificate… or a fee of five dollars in cases where the proof shall not… warrant such certificate.”
A federal officer is literally paid double for ruling someone a slave.
3. Mandatory citizen participation (the deputization clause)
“It shall be the duty of all good citizens to aid and assist in the prompt and efficient execution of this law.”
This line turns the entire free North into an enforcement arm.
#VOTE out Stalinist, Putinist, Hitlerian scum #Send Barron to the Donbas, Ukraine #Send Eric to get a facelift #Send Junior on a Kruger Park Safari without a firearm
Child abuse is a horrible thing and pedophilia is a way to abuse children. But during the 1980's and '90's, administrative laws were made that made is very easy to take anyone's children for political purposes, and nearly impossible to get them back.
The law made every teacher, healthcare professional, law enforcer, anyone with a state license or job resoponsible to report anything that could turn out to be child abuse upon threat of your license to practice. That was during the time offshoring was forced on us and the jobs were taken, including healthcare which was attached to employment. It was easy to say children were neglected for lack of dental care and vaccines, and school supplies.
If a child was injured through normal activities, every professional who came into contact with the child who didn't report the injury was suspect.
Maybe this didn't happen where you lived, but it happened here and coincidentally, union activity practically disappeared.
the line, "“It shall be the duty of all good citizens to aid and assist in the prompt and efficient execution of this law," triggered my PTSD related to the horror of the power of the state that it embedded in my bones. I was a nurse and a mandated reporter at the same time I understood how the closest bond between humans can be used for political gain.
I acknowledge that there a situations where children need to be rescued from abuse and neglect, but I believe the parents should be charged with a crime while children are safe, and be untitled to a speedy trial by jury before children are permanently placed in foster care. I do mean SPEEDY! If that is a stress on the judicial system, then we need to tax the wealthy and provide a judicial system with adequate number of judges and attorneys to properly administer justice in the United States.
Better still, provide families with a basic income and healthcare to assist them to raise healthy children in a less stressful environment. Then watch the population grow.
The best defense is a good offense. I have no idea who said it, but it has been proven to be true. Yesterday, I suggested a massive campaign of letters to the editor to every publication possible, including politically aligned magazines which accept letters. The following is a sample which I invite anyone to copy or revise as they see fit. This one is for papers which have a word-limit of 150 words (not counting the heading). I plan to revise it for the local paper which allows 250 words. Always remember to provide your personal information which is supposed to be kept private.
All celebrations are hereby cancelled.
July Fourth was to be the Day to celebrate 250 years of Freedom and Democracy. Our democracy ended Jan. 20, 2025, and freedom is now only for those who can pay for the privilege.
The separation of powers is no more. Our autocrat/dictator does not consult Congress before starting a war or for anything else. The party in power decided we should have a CEO president or “unitary executive”. A king by any other name is still a king.
A crusading Christian Nationalist or Dominionist and racist misogynist has arbitrarily named the Department of Defense the War Department. Our president, V.P., and the cabinet are all corrupt White Supremacists. Innocent civilians are being slaughtered in our name.
In one month, little can change. But millions of people who knew Trump was corrupt failed to vote in 2024. Vote for democracy in November. We will celebrate in 2027.
Thank you! Let's hope the idea catches on. I sent this version to the L.V. Review Journal which is about as right-wing as they come and do not expect them to publish it. But I hope to get under the editor's skin and let him know we are coming for them. I will send a longer version to the L. V. Sun. They are very liberal but have only an on-line publication after the RJ steamrolled them.
Every insider trade, dirty trick and tax evasion known has been used by the TRump Syndicate for decades. The TRumps and Kuschners specialize in all three. They are psychopaths and criminals by nature.
Donold will try to get in the last punch. I'm betting on US and Jennifer Siebel Newsom. Yesterday's Report really cheered me up knowing the lawyer and judge from Hitler's cadre paid the price too. The real crooks must be held accountable. In the meantime, see you in the streets.
And let's be blunt here!! When they decide to eliminate Habeus Corpus they're not even going to try to find or manufacture a crime. And throw in the elimination of the 4th amendment & you invite mass round-ups of Democratic strongholds, immigrant communities, which is already happening, meetings of gay pride groups, Jews in the Temple, Muslims in mosques, you get the idea. Anyone they don't like, no need to even label them any longer, round them up, lock them up, throw away the key just because!
From younger post college days I seem to remember this tactic brought on by the lawyers of power - the nuclear power plant industry (and let's not forget the tobacco industry) - find the opportunity to take a "whistleblower" to court, even after they've revealed a dastardly deed. Take them for everything - job, house, family, reputation and sue them into oblivion and ruin. It worked. Much whistleblowing stopped soon after that.
A saying I kind of made up -
Let them have their day in court, who cares, the verdict has already been decided.
