The Chernobyl of democracy? It will radiate through generations to come? We are already literally RADIATING for generations to come! Since the FIRST Manhattan Project!
When Trump first introduced DODGERS as, “The new, the biggest, the best Manhattan Project”, I knew we were sunk as the world has continued to look away from the generational damages of the first Manhattan Project!
I am the proud daughter of an Atomic Marine! Dad experienced three atomic blasts. Including the largest atomic blast still to date. The Castle Bravo Shot on March 1, 1954. He and his brothers in arms were told they were on board the USS Curtiss to guard important cargo. It wasn’t until decades later, during the Clinton administration, that the secrets of the Manhattan Project and the Cold War were finally declassified. Dad was finally able to share with the world, his experiences. But by then he had fathered two daughters and I had two children. I am now part of a DNA study for ancestors of Atomic Veterans. There is still much to learn, but it is confirmed that myself and my daughter have both inherited Dad’s radiation damaged DNA.
There is soooo much more to this story, but I won’t get bogged down in all the dangers we are still in due to the atomic waste that is stored all over our country, all over the world. The Castle Bravo shot is now a concrete dome where one of the Bikini Atolls was completed obliterated. It is still highly radioactive and it’s been seeping into the ocean since 3/1/1954!
I am proudly participating in May Day. Over the last few weeks I’ve been thinking of using the Castle Bravo Blast and my dad’s picture on my poster.
After Dad’s time in the corp was completed he went on to serve as a Civil Servant for DOD in a Navy Lab in San Diego. He was even part of one of the “Boots on Ground” NATO committees. He experienced the destruction of the atomic bomb first hand. He knew the literal danger of such a weapon. He left the Republican Party in the early 2000’s as he could see the party he had believed in was sadly turning away from their core beliefs. It has been beyond devastating for me to watch all he had fought for his entire life to be torn away and demolished almost as quickly as the atoll in the Marshall Islands had been destroyed. He passed away during Trump 1.0. I know he is still here though, standing up with us. I will be wearing his dog tags, the ones he wore during the three atomic blasts he was part of. Thank you for your wise and true words. You have encouraged me to continue to share our family story. We are just one family of thousands. Not just here, but all over the world. Living with radiated DNA and the health challenges that come with it.

Oops! Darn predictive text. Replaced DOGE with DODGERS. Oh well, they have been blatantly dodging our constitution and the rule of law ; )
