We’re All Socialists
We’re all socialists, in heart and bone, The ones who built this country’s home, And though they curse the name we bear, We’re all socialists…’Cause we still care.
[Verse 1]
They’re shouting “communists!” under blood-red skies,
Pointing their fingers while telling their lies,
But the streets they stand on were paved by our hands,
The teachers, the nurses, the ones they can’t stand.
[Pre-Chorus]
They sell fear like gold in the market square,
While the poor still breathe polluted air…
[Chorus]
We’re all socialists, born from fire and pain,
We built this dream through flood and rain,
From the ashes of greed, a people rose —
We’re all socialists… and everyone knows.
[Verse 2]
Trump buys the steel, and he calls it free,
Sells the nation’s soul on live TV,
Cries “Marxist!” loud while he takes control,
Of the factories, the fields, and the nation’s soul.
[Pre-Chorus]
He wraps his fist in the flag’s torn seam,
Turns our labor into his dream.
[Chorus]
We’re all socialists, the builders and the broke,
We light the fires they tried to choke,
It’s the farmer’s sweat, the worker’s call —
We’re all socialists… and we won’t fall.
[Bridge]
Hear the echoes of the mines at night,
Hear the children’s hunger, the mothers’ fight,
They took our wages, they took our will —
But they can’t take love… and they never will.
[Breakdown Verse]
He calls us “vermin,” but we still sing,
Of liberty, not a gilded king.
They’ll burn their books to blind our eyes,
But the truth still lives — it never dies.
[Final Chorus]
We’re all socialists, in heart and bone,
The ones who built this country’s home,
And though they curse the name we bear,
We’re all socialists…
’Cause we still care.
[Outro]
We’re all socialists…
Still standing there.

I completely agree with everything in this post. I, too, was disappointed that the Occupy Wall Street movement became leaderless and faded away. The leadership shown by Martin Luther King, John Lewis and others caused the civil rights movement to create the change we so desperately needed. It seems to me that there should be some dynamic, charismatic people that can become the leaders we need today. Thom-would you know who these potential leaders are? I believe that we have the momentum to rescue our democracy with the right leadership and a coordinated strategy.
