A Gloria Steinem quote from a John Fugelsang post ; “We are linked. We are not ranked.” Neil deGrasse Tyson, where are you ?! I’d like to believe we are linked. I even remember a female astro-physicist saying the iron out there in space is the same as the iron in our blood. Fact check if you want but, these people, including Ms. Steinem are smarter than I will ever be ! Believing in the good in each other is a most powerful connection !! And, giving is sharing, sharing is loving. Love is a gift we can share. It’s in one of my songs too.
Someone should start a world wide meditation. They just finished a 24 hour meditation that they do yearly. It comes from Unity Village and is done by almost every Unity Church. Maybe everyone can join them next year?
I believe we're all connected in ways we aren't consciously aware of. But I think we share the ideas that make a difference in the world by communicating physically- through speaking/hearing, reading, writing, and working on projects together- not meditating. Communicating must seep into our subconscious minds.
Meditating is beneficial to many, as I have often heard people testify to how it helps them. I've tried it, and I simply can't do it. I'm either awake, thinking, and doing, or asleep.
That sounds like it's even futher out than Steven Kraus' "A Universe From Nothing", which makes pefect sense when looking at where "God" is. It's like our galaxy is merely an atom in God's big toe. Don't stub your toe God!!
Thank you Cristopher for your comment. My first and only LSD experience also 60 years ago made all of this clear too. It completely expanded my mind and my heart and introduced me to other dimensions. It dramatically changed my view of "reality" or what I used to think was all of reality. There is so much more than only what we have been 'taught' to perceive through our bodies and our minds in our culture. I look forward to getting this book in October Thom. Thank you for introducing us to the author of this book Thom and for this post of yours.
Holy s__t!! I must get this book! After saying that, I must also say that I am very skeptical although intrigued. I would like to believe there is more to reality than what our senses tell us. Certainly even the physical universe is far from being explained (dark matter, dark energy, particle entanglement).
We humans assume that the world is three-dimensional, and we act accordingly because that is all our eyes can readily sense. But the universe likely has several dimensions that our bodies and minds are either incapable of sensing or that we have never made an effort to sense. Those unable to perceive other dimensions likely view people's claims to perceive them as nonsense. After all, they cannot sense them. A few of us humans have been taught how to meditate - open our minds to dimensions we cannot see - and are more likely to accept the existence of other dimensions.
Mark Twain used to say that there are lies, damned lies, and then statistics. As a retired behavioral scientist, I have, on occasion, discovered published facts established by statistical analysis to be wrong. That is because they omitted or included data for a mediating variable that supported a conclusion that later could not be replicated by including (or sometimes excluding) some variable in the original analysis. Is Dr. Silberstein right? Only time and research may tell. But I know from experience that statistics sometimes mislead. Nevertheless, I can live with some people claiming awareness that others do not share.
I gave up on religion long ago, realizing that man created “god” in his own image. But since it’s difficult to know what we don’t know, I’m loathe to dismiss ideas of connection via means that we don’t understand or that aren’t immediately obvious, and it’s entirely possible that “I’ll see it when I believe it”. Given a mind that refuses to STFU, I’ve found attempts at meditation frustrating, but that can’t be grounds to question its impact. I’ll get the book as soon as it’s available. Thanks.
I propose that we form a group to do meditation for 3 minutes a day, watching the regime peacefully dissolve, We the People peacefully vote new leaders, congress peacefully decline big $ out of politics and democracy saved then evolved to real equality, justice for all and opportunity for everyone. Any takers?
I think something can definitely be said for groups of well meaning people gathering in mindful ways . Reinforcement of peaceful and rational mindsets has got to have a positive effect on the energy around us .
Now , looking at how chaos and discord have affected our collective consciousness, and propels angst in our everyday lives. It seems a reasonable assumption that peaceful coexistence must be healing. As for Meditation it’s not something to get exactly right it’s the effort of breathing as central to our collective spirit.
When you have to put PhD after your name you are trying to impress us that you are an authority in some way.
Remote viewing was discarded after millions of dollars were wasted on that paranormal nonsense.
Ian Stevenson's children with "past lives" were from a society and parents that believe in reincarnation and have a vested interest in the "phenomenon" and usually not from Western societies.
If the paranormal were real, then the majority of the world's scientists would accept it, and it would be of highly active research with Nobel Prizes waiting in the wings.
Instead, the paranormalists are still siting by their phones hoping for an invitation to the prom.
My personal life experiences have shown me, time after time, that paranormal experiences are real. So is telepathy. The only reason these senses are not available to everyone, is that not everyone is open to receiving the messages coming in. Einstein proved that everything is energy with his theory of relativity—that mass is literally energy that has been slowed down by a factor of the speed of light, squared. Energy just is. It has no beginning, and no end—merely transmutations in the way it shows up. Most of us choose not to concern ourselves with it most of the time, and there are good reasons for that, since for much of the duration of human civilization, we have been focused on our physical survival, more than on any particular meaning that survival might have. Choosing, whether consciously or not, to not focus on something that perhaps makes one uncomfortable, does not make the thing go away. Gravity exists, whether you believe in it or not. Likewise, a universal intelligence exists, whether you believe in it or not.
You remind me of the mentalities that rejected Harlan Bretz's discovery of why Eastern Washington's landscape was so weird, such as a deep canyon ending in a cliff with a 300 foot waterfall flowing over the same rick the canyon consisted of downstream. In other words, rivers do not carve canyons that way and yet here it was. Bretz argued huge floods were responsible. Geology at the time was wedded to seeing everything as gradual, likely in reaction to Biblical stories, though they had no connection with Bretz's arguments. He was denounced as not only wrong, but as incompetent. The few geologists that actually came to look at his evidence never saw it for what it was. At the age of 90 Bretz received American geology's highest award for grasping that ice age floods were responsible, and today geologists find evidence for multiple such floods throughout the region. Like everyone else, scientists can be blinded by their theories, the more successful the more likely.
Fascinating stuff! I will have to dig in deeper shortly. Let me just quickly say two (no, three) things at the moment (1) reminds me of a conversation I had with a woman a few days ago; "why do men have boobs?" and the answer is: because initially we are all women; very nearly half the fetuses in the world change into men due to a chromosome derailment or whatever you want to call it; more remarkably, about half of any population turn out to be male/female... which sounds like some of the deep connectivity you wrote about today; (2) when I was about 22 I wrote a science fiction novel (my second, I believe, so long ago... over half a century)...it was a novel (today published under the title Blue Princess by John Argo, my SF pseudonym) and in the proposal to some nitwits in the New York media I mentioned that the earthlike planet I fictionally created 25 lightyears from Earth could potentially be much like Earth because (ding!) all science is the same throughout the universe; not meaning that all planets are like earth; but at least a few, no matter how far you look, must follow the same laws; only with creationism would it be possible to have only this one Oyt, as it's called in New York.. and the response was something to the effect that "we read your proposal and sample and strongly reject it because (a) we cannot envision a woman exploring an alien planet wearing a skirt" (one of the five surviving crew from a dead Oyt, one of them an attractive your woman in a skirt, mentioned only once; something I probably saw in the popular art of the time, including artsy comics.. and the rejection continued: "we don't think your ideas about science are even remotely realistic." You can imagine the rejection that Dr.. Silberstein would get from those same nitwits. ..It took me nearly 50 years to get my novel into print (Clocktower Books, my own imprint) and I'm glad I did. If there are unsustainable ideas in the world, it's the Nuyoak media (Big 5 or whatever they are called these days). Anyway, the physicist you tell about has some remarkable ideas and I will look into it. JTC PS: I can tell you one more true story. (3) Long ago, when I was stationed with the U.S. Army in West Germany, one of our service members at a big headquarters became father of a little girl; unfortunately, she died of a congenital heart defect that proved unfixable, at six months old. Now here's the profound thing that moves like a dark shadow over our lives. In the general population of that office sector (probably 1000 people in six buildings, Panzerkaserne, Kaiserslautern) there had not been a child born until that little girl. Within months of her death, at least six women in that barracks complex became pregnant. It's that dark hand of probability waving invisibly across the universe, keeping things in line...also (3b) at the German hospital where she was born, there was always an excess of male babies born... the nurses were thrilled and called her 'Herbstaepfelchen" (Little Autumn Apple) because she was that rare female born in a population in the 1970s still smashed and recovering from the loss of tens of millions of young men due to Assh*le Hitler's war of utter stupidity. So again... there is yet some dark hand of mathematics, physics, biology, evolution, waving over the deepest structures of our universe. Look closely, as I have, and you may catch a glimpse, as I have. Don't blame magic or spirits, unless they are also part of the deep dark movements. JTC2
Thank you Thom. Yes, I think it is definitely possible that we are really all connected and not just to other humans but to all life including to Mother Earth and even beyond this earthly plane.

MASS MEDITATION ACTUALLY AFFECTING OBJECTIVE REALITY?
THAT IS MORE THAN FOOD FOR THOUGHT. IT IS A COMMUNAL BANQUET OF THOUSANDS.
Someone should start a world wide meditation. They just finished a 24 hour meditation that they do yearly. It comes from Unity Village and is done by almost every Unity Church. Maybe everyone can join them next year?
The Soviet Union fell apart peaceably shortly after the Harmonic Convergence.

Fascinating and terrifying in equal measure.

The premise of this book resonates with the Truths I've been encountering! It's exciting to see!
Fascinating indeed. I will purchase the book. Thanks
