It’s amazing how the Roman Empire still impacts the world. About three hundred years after the death of Jesus of Nazareth, as the Roman Empire was crumbling, the power base in Rome saw that Christianity was rising, so they usurped the religion and declared Roman Catholicism to be the true religion, and the Holy Roman Empire was born. The Roman Empire is invisible now, but the Catholic Church lives on, having subsumed folk religions around the world, and monarchical men, having created a god in their own image, are waging a global war to regain control of the world. Meanwhile, the common people fight over which group of peons is superior.

The UFC cage is a perfect metaphor for what we have become. As a friend points out, the movie “‘Idiocracy’ has become a documentary”.

This madman ,Trump ,is just a promoter that always ends up with the take in his pocket.

He has not one altruistic motivation for anything he promotes.

Most people hate his ideas for our country, he has no concern for any of us , and has plainly said so .

How did people not recognize his con man carnival barker plan?

We’re are sure aware now.

Every take of his on any celebration must be ‘all about DJT’.

It’s pathetic and excruciatingly irritating . As well as just WRONG.

And how do his many acts of treason go unaddressed as such?

David's avatar

Paul, you and I both know his acts of treason don't even get a " little" attention. With the media bought off and and a large part of the electorate barely able to write their own name, the prospect for the future looks grim.

I’ve been an entertainer, performer, film composer and recording artist for over 60 years. I had a hit record with my band and contributed music to some of the biggest TV series in the world. I’m appalled by the millions of Americans that are so brainwashed they accept Trump as their leader. I was also in a cult for almost 50 of my creative years. I know what a cult leader looks like. I know how cult members think. I view this as the largest epidemic of mental illness in history. Hunger Games eat your heart out. We have the real thing in our back yard. Thom is more than a voice of reason, he is a whistleblower putting his life on the line. And I’ve seen the dangers in that first hand. I produced and directed a documentary Brothers Broken that’s out now. It’s relevant to what’s happening every day. Time we all do whatever we can to expose and dispose of these criminals.

David's avatar

Geoff, where can we see your documentary?

Everything, all the time, is also to distract from Trump's Epstein scandal We cannot ever forget to bring that up.

This is a statement to be printed in the history books:

"This is the same tasteless grifter, remember, who’s spent his second term treating the most sacred public building in the country like a distressed property he picked up at a foreclosure auction."

"Panem et Circenses"

In Latin, "bread and circuses" is panem et circenses (pronounced PAH-nem et kir-SEN-ses). It is a famous political phrase used to describe superficial appeasement, where a government keeps the population docile and distracted from deeper social or political issues by providing basic needs and entertainment. Trump might as well say “Let them eat Big Macs.”

I'd love for a great big chopper - or an alien UFO - to pick the whole thing up and dump it at Mar-a-largo. Beam it up, Scottie!

I'd settle for the Potomac.

Sue Nethercott's avatar

Me too, but I'd rather that it cluttered up his home. Particularly if it was dropped from a great height.

None of the waterways in this country…or in the World as a whole…need any more sources of pollution and you know this piece of junk is probably built of the worst of the worse construction materials. Plus Trumpf cooties all over it too!

Sue Nethercott's avatar

You have a point.

Trump shows his contempt for democracy by desecrating every beloved feature of the DC area. It began with the DOGE raid on the Institute of Peace (then renaming it for Trump). Then it was on to the overthrow of the Kennedy Center (again renaming it for Trump, before a suit was filed to remove his name). Then came putting his ugly mug on the Department of Justice, destroying the Reflecting Pool, and of course all the defilements of the White House Thom mentioned. This campaign of architectural debauchery corresponds to the institutional debauchery this administration engages in.

Thanks Thom (I think?) for the update on the latest revolting spectacle from the hideous toad squatting in the People’s house. The deliberate trashing of the White House and grounds is almost as shocking as the deliberate trashing of our constitutional government. I can’t wait to see this creep squatting in a jail cell!

We must remember that trump is a mere employee, paid in election contributions and the right to loot for the purpose of transferring wealth from the working class to the ruling, oligarchical class. And he is doing a great job. These side shows serve the purpose of demonstrating how ruthless he is and providing a circus to distract the public from the theft of their wealth that is simultaneosly going on.

David's avatar

Shea, you've got it. He is a supporter of the TECHNONazis and they are orchestrating his every move. Nvidia is not your friend, not my friend and should not be the friend of 20-30 million people who will lose their jobs asa result of AI.

Nero had a lyre, actually, and while that story may be apocryphal, he was a man who could not accept losing, even being declared the winner of a chariot race after falling out of the car. (Interestingly, after the great fire of Rome in 64 CE he built himself an immense palace on the ruins. That was soon covered up by his successors and only recently have rooms been found underground. Maybe the ballroom will go he same way.)

For a deeper dive on the psychology of those who follow this kind of pathetic mess and encourage him to be even worse, see the Lucas Bean videos on Youtube. Some are frankly terrifying, like:

Here's an idea. Since Trump thinks he can replace all the musicians. Why not have him replace the cage fight too? Just put up a simple wrestling ring and have him fight. JD Vance could fight him - he'd let him win. Or who would you nominate?

I keep remembering that it's Russel Vought behind most of what DT does, plucking DT like a marionette. A continuing effect of rabid religiosity going for control.

Roman Republic had many checks on power but the super rich Senators found ways to share power and leave out the people. The Empire started because the leaders could no longer make deals to share power and decided civil war was the best way to settle who should rule. We are now approaching that same problem where all the billionaires want total power and to get ride of democracy. They claim democracy reduces their freedom to steal from everyone.

imhumanru's avatar

Aside from using the White House and our tax dollars for his own, or his billionaire donors' personal profit, there is another scurrilous and illegal activity that will be happening. He has said that he plans to make a "major speech" to compensate for the lack of entertainers willing to shill for him. We know with near certainty that this will be a speech about how great he is and how much great stuff he has done, and will be a major stumping for the Repukes in the November election.

This will clearly be a partisan event, as witnessed by all the people who have declined invitations. Using the White House property, and tax dollars for the production, for a partisan campaign purpose, will be a serious violation of the Hatch Act, the Anti-Defficiency Act, the Federal Elections Campaign Act, and the Sincere Neutrality Rules. If you wish to reply that he is not "campaigning" for himself, remember that he has said himself he will try to run for a 3rd term if he can pull it off. If the Dems ever get their act together and retake the government, a serious criminal investigation into this should be first priority.

Is it too late to call for a boycott? I'd go myself to protest if I weren't 81 and had leukemia. I hope there will be crowds booing Trump and trying to block the gates.
