They are tearing it apart, that they can put it back together again......in their image.

Hotel Pennsylvania in NYC, it was permanently closed and demolished in 2023. It is being replaced by 15 Penn Plaza, a 50-story commercial skyscraper also known as the Penn 15 project.

Do not mistake my comment for agreement, it is simply an explanation. They are replacing democracy with authoritarian one ideology rule, with the charade of a two party rule.

Actually, Mr. Farrar, your explanation makes more sense than the one I was about to offer. That is, it's a combo of most of the rationales which Thom offers up beginning with Old Orange Bloat having been a Russian 'sleeper' before he was elected and Obama's teasing of him in 2011 simply adding fuel to the fire as it were. I also see the billionaires as trying to impose a 21st century model of feudalism with most of us as their serfs!

I totally agree with your assessment, more than one thing can be true at a time. There are a lot of converging agendas.

Exactly. AS I like to put it, izhny-nizhny, tooteldy-booteldy, rosh, rosh, ROSH!

They are tearing it apart with orders from their overlords at Project 2025, that 900 page GOP manifesto that is mentioned all too seldom. According to them, it is more than halfway completed in record time. They agree with the vision of a White fake-christian USA, and are gleefully ridding us of black and brown people and readying their plans to rid the USA of those who do not agree. Each and every one of us must fight for free elections and come to the polls in record numbers. This is the answer to your question. Please focus on helping us accomplish this.

The gap between the wealthiest and everyone else is what gives them the power. The gap can be increased by them becoming wealthier or by ensuring everyone else becomes much poorer.

It has occurred to me that the morbidly rich actually want masses of people to die if they see no way they can use them to increase their own wealth. They see those people as irrelevant with no intrinsic worth.

Therer is no question that Trump is tearing America's government apart - starting with DOGE and its autistic guzzilionniare leader. The most moral and competent civil servants and military officers have been removed from office and replaced by, in most cases, incompetent, sycophantic nincompoops. That latter characterization applies to the entire Trump administration. Trump has also successfully alienated every ally on the planet, and most nations that were even considering engaging in trade with us. Insults, invasions, and tariffs will do that.

Trump's motivations, as Thom listed them, seem to ALL apply. But given Trump's lifetime incompetence, he clearly will fail. Heck, he cannot even hire a competent poolboy to repaint the reflecting pond without paying too much for a scummier swamp. So what is motivating the oligarchs and Congressional members who support this crap? Don't they realize that if the US economy and government implodes, it will take them with it too?

Gloria J. Maloney's avatar

They know they are so rich that they will glide across the top of another depression like the wealthiest did during the Great Depression. The inequality gap widens, benefiting them as they become comparatively richer.

Tomonthebeach's avatar

Think about it. There will be no inequality. If the system implodes, money is worthless. If I own 4 mansions, how will I pay to keep out trespassers and thieves? What will I pay them with? How will I buy food? Where can I get gas for my Jet? There is a reason why the Great Depression's market crash motivated people to jump out of 20-story windows.

I've wondered about that too, this accumulation of more and more money while it becomes worth less and less seems like a downward spiral. It's a sickness to pile up so much to begin with, though I suppose it gives one a sense of comfort and power, and that is what many of them seem to need. And there always is some kind of a medium of exchange; even in the death camps people traded food, fiat currency and whatever else they had to survive a little longer, so I think they see themselves staying on top no matter what. At bottom it's a love of control. I think that a few genuinely believe in their vision, more may be stupid and don't see the consequences of their actions, others cannot face what they are doing and so are in denial, and many are just cruel. It's really nothing new, consider the French or Russian aristocracies before their revolutions. A few cared, some got out, but most just kept stomping on the people because they always had. And boy, were they in for a big surprise. (Happy Bastille Day)

I like the label "ruthless" for billionaires because it comes with a stereotype that most people readily understand. You do not have to be smart to be a billionaire, just ruthless - and of course - greedy.

What about all the precision ordnance being dumped on Iran for nothing? The build time is so long that there will be none left to defend NATO against his joy boy Vladdy when he invades the Baltics and Poland. There will be none to defrnd ourselves with either.

He is desroying our country for Russia. He has been their asset for decades. Why is this not being covered? Jack Smith's V.2 might connect the progression.

Unfortunately, Jack Smith doesn't have the clout that Judge Aileen Cannon does. Biden's AG, who hired him, saw to that.

Is wondering “why?” a waste of effort? Would knowing why make a difference? It’s unlikely we’ll ever change their behavior; the damage they’re doing is obvious and they don’t give a damn. But we can sure as hell change their ability to do that damage by punishing wrongdoing, upending the cost/benefit picture, and choking off their access to power. Which is exactly why it’s past time to offload the corporate Democrat/consultant class that continues to support the status quo and replace them with people who genuinely believe in and support democracy. You know, those people who are commonly called “radical” because they find the status quo unacceptable.

Why? It's all in Project 2025. The plan is to make America, our Nation, a White, Christian patriarchy, create opportunities only for rich, white, straight (except for Scott Bessent) men who head up corporations deemed important by the same controlling elite billionaires and eliminate extraneous programs and institutions that add no value to the Plan. America is a business, sold for parts. A notion where there's no room for pain and suffering much less empathy. No room for a middle class, much less those struggling to make ends meet. It was all there, on paper before the gilding and grift began. There is no cavalry coming to help us. We need to figure out how to stop this pillaging together. The why isn't as important as how to stop it.

They are wiping out all meaning of a democratic, cooperative society in order to replace it with a new feudalism, or a plantation society. The purpose of competition, and the objective of capitalism, is to remove competition and replace it with serfdom. If these oligarchs were truly interested in "the dignity of work", they wouldn't be denying food stamps and health care; they'd be allowing workers to unionize. They'd be turning over more of the budget to saving lives, and less to killing people who never knew they were enemies of ours.

And, threaten our best ally [Canada] with an Adolph-Poland-type 51st-state takeover.

Why all this crap? . . . The answer lies deep within the "High Castle" walls of the Kremlin.

I would add that while tear apart this country to keep it from fighting back against foreign powers and the corporations - they are mocking our calling out the foreign government’s human rights abuses by our allowing Ice to murder and terrorize our homes. The message is clear - - we are a shallow cruel people incapable of protecting ourselves.

Margaret Rivera's avatar

Awesome list, Mr. H!!! I had already forgotten a number of them - that list needs to be posted somewhere -- or at least given to candidates for November - they should not read the list but incorporate a number into their speeches. To remind people how much we have lost. The research grants at Universities are alarming - shoot. Every item on the list is alarming!!

Too many ignorant or apathetic people in this country were fooled into believing the lies that Trump and Republicans fed them

Hopefully they have realized the consequences of their ignorance and will not support the blatantly corrupt republicans again

(They figured it out in Hungary)

plus a pathetically weak democratic leadership failed to fight back against all the lies

plus a main stream media who knows that all the money the Republicans are willing to spend goes to them

All these contributed to putting these people in power

To fight back before it’s too late we must vote them out in the midterms

we can also fight back by not supporting the oligarchs with our money - as Disney found out

We need to find STRONGER democratic leadership- if the democrats win control of the house and senate - things can turn in the right direction -

and we must hold the corrupt politicians and their supporters accountable to the laws and the constitution

Peter Thiel, Curtis Yarvin, inter alia, want the oligarchs to rule without resistance. Read their books. They deliberately want to tank the economy and destroy public safety, end national security, to run a police state. If you thought this was too deranged, you're right. It's not only cruel, but stupid, and would collapse from incompetence, as we see now, pretty clearly.

It is all too horrible to bear. I knew all the things Thom listed, but to see them written down and in one place makes it almost impossible to imagine that we can bring our country back from the brink.

Prayer and the VOTE. Oh, and hope the Democrats don't trip over their short-sightedness.
