There is a simple way to alleviate this problem - simply pass a law to deny seating representatives from states that refuse to abide by federal court decisions. You don't want to play by the rules, or comply with federal court decisions? Then you don't get to seat any Congresspeople elected under illegal maps or prohibited voter suppression.....seems to me there actually may be a provision in the Constitution or a voting law about that, but I am not sure.

Bruce, I agree and apparently any returning member of the House can challenge the seating of delegations on a state by state basis. On January 3, 2021 Rep. Chip Roy did exactly that. Texas Republican Rep. Chip Roy challenged the seating of the delegations from Arizona, Michigan, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Georgia and Nevada, essentially saying that if there was widespread fraud in those states -- as Trump and his followers claimed -- then so are the elections of those House delegations.  The move from Roy, who had previously spoken out against his fellow Republicans (then) expected plan to challenge the certification of the electoral votes on January 6 forced a vote from the House on whether they thought the House members should be sworn in, and putting the whole chamber on the record.

I’d also add to the list of representatives from states with unlawful congressional maps, the House members that were in on the planning of the January 6th insurrection including Gym Jordan (R-OH) and Scott Perry (R-PA)

They are disqualified under Section 3 of the 14th Amendment.

Let them all contest it out in federal court, in which case they’d need to prove their state’s maps are legal or that they weren’t insurrectionists. Meanwhile, the rest of the House can get on with the country’s business.

For the many positives of having O'Connor on the court, at her recent funeral there undoubtedly was no mention of the Gove v. Bush decision. Perhaps the best that can be said is that in a 2013 interview with the Chicago Tribune she half apologized, saying:

"Maybe the court should have said, 'We're not going to take it, goodbye. It turned out the election authorities in Florida hadn't done a real good job there and kind of messed it up. And probably the Supreme Court added to the problem at the end of the day."

You think?

The one consistency is that Dems always think everyone knows so they do not have to say much. The only thing that matters is what you put out constantly and the Dem party has no infrastructure to do so. The Dems need to put out video content for outlets like Free TV.

It's a judicial matter. The parties and DOJ have the capacity to ask for enforcement.

Who is supposed to stop them, and why aren't they doing it? Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy sent the national guard to Mississippi to enforce the law.

All federal Article III judges have inherent contempt authority. They have court officials, the US Marshals' Service execute their orders.

However, a person charged with contempt has a right to a hearing. A person accused of contempt has a right to purge contempt. https://www.justice.gov/archives/jm/criminal-resource-manual-757-tests-distinguishing-between-civil-and-criminal-contempt-purging

Most of the time, "progressive" discipline is used. First a threat, then a fine and finally civil coercive contempt. Jail time until the contempt is purged.

As to RFK and Mississippi, when James Meredith sought to legally become the first black person to attend the University of Mississippi, "the duty of upholding the federal law allowing him to do so fell upon the shoulders of 127 deputy marshals from all over the country." https://www.usmarshals.gov/who-we-are/history/historical-reading-room/us-marshals-and-integration-of-university-of-mississippi

So, who is charged with contempt for not redrawing district maps when a court has ordered it and who does the charging?

A lawyer before the court makes a motion to compel enforcement. DOJ may/may not be involved.

I thought it was the Mississippi National Guard, army and air, called to active service. I was a child and remember seeing it on the news. Thanks for the link.

With a 50-year history of cheating to win elections, we can be sure next year’s will win the grand prize. The trump machine is priming its pumps by defying court orders to instill fairness for all voters.

It doesn’t matter how the vote goes in the end. There are plans to simply ignore legalities, as they’ve already proven acceptable. It is a show of support to their Dear Leader, a pledge of loyalty, and the fulfillment of a fifty-year commitment to the remaking of America.

For half a century the Republican Party has actively and passively sought and fought for a Christian-based plutocratic/autocratic system of governance. This is their moment in time, success finally within reach. There is no way to stop the Christofascist threat to our country.

Maybe Trump won't qualify to be on the ballots depending upon how SCOTUS decides. He should lose any influence in that scenario.

The GOP will stop at nothing.

I will repeat that: The GOP will stop at nothing.

Ignoring our courts tells us everything we need to know about the GOP. The GOP have succeeded from the US.

I will repeat that also: The GOP have succeeded from the US.

The GOP respect and honor nothing except for their own anti-social fascistopic network of wealth dealers, corporate overlords, billionaire-crafted stink tanks, and enemies of the US. Of course they also hold dear their clownish exercise in plausible deniability that is the incessant issuing of piercing dog whistle nudges to their band of precious neo-brown-shirt gun freaks.

Being an irrefutable serial rapist of democracy, the GOP have left the vast majority of people with few, if any means of peaceful recourse to their unwelcome advances. This is NOT a threat, it is an observation.

I will repeat that as well: This is NOT a threat, it is an observation.

You reminded me of a John F. Kennedy quote, "Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable."

Do you mean the GOP have seceded (withdrawn) from the U.S.? If that is what you mean, it sure seems like it.

That was my intention, yes. The GOP have withdrawn from the US (except they're going to keep the car, the house, the kids, the friends, the bank account, and anything else of value. Like a divorce gone horribly wrong).

About theft of an election through pulling people off the voting rolls: It's important to educate voters about the purges, but maybe a better strategy is to inform them how this happens in their state and county. Let's tell them how it could happen to them.

I tried to get information on where I live and was not successful last year during covid days (people were working remotely). Then I also contacted local, state, and national officials of the League of Women Voters. They seemed a likely way to get out the word on purge policies. No one got back to me. I know they have dropped registering voters in many states due to Republican backlash with threats of arrest and fines for a simple mistake.

Of course we need to tell people to check their registration, but if you want to fire them up to get active, show them what they are up against. This could work, especially if the policies are unreasonable. I got postcards from the county clerk when I renewed my plates and driver's license. Thought it a bit strange that it had never happened before. Probably not malicious but certainly they are doing something new, and I'd like to know the whole picture.

The skill set of Republicans in general has turned into a freak show of “ how low can you go” ? And they continue to go lower every day . Of course they re led by lowest of low the giant Magatron

Trump. And what a mess he is . He can’t remember who he ran against and when . The only thing this never ending victim ( to hear him tell it ) is a boohooed wannabe who only knows one thing for sure . Biden is just going out of his way to sic the Justice Department on him for ....,Crimes he tells us someone else committed( it WAS trump) .

So the justice department just made up 91 charges , investigated and made up all the evidence ( against Trump) came up with hundreds of witnesses all because he’s leading Biden in the polls that are run by right wing media sites who also dote on every creepy nasty word he says and put it all on media so people know how badly he’s been taken advantage of . ( I claim sarcasm, but no shame)

All of this because the liar in chief has built his name as the aggrieved one .

Bull Shit. And the crazed Republicans Congressional group back his every lie. Red states remove democratic voters illegally with out and end in site and have scorched this country with their repeated lies about Trump the Chief Victim . God save us from Liars . By the way the head of the Congress is Mike Johnson who’s busy checking his 17 yo porn finds and he returns his porn finds to his son. When he’s not attending Chastity balls with his 13 yo daughter , having her sign a chastity vow that she then has her father out with his artifacts from the days he walked w dinosaurs.

It’s all touching and about as twisted as it gets. This guy was chosen by Republicans to be the Speaker of the House. Dear lord you can’t make this stuff up . That and their plethora of Bills to assist the American people that they’ve never allowed to be brought up

Remember they’ve been busy impeaching Joe Biden the real president who actually won the election and has no impeachable offense.

Go for it you poor excuses for patriots . None , not one of them has a thimble full of integrity.....Look it up.

Exactly. The tragedy is most individuals prefer to cling to false hope rather than plan for disaster, however obvious. Jessica Wildfire has in her Doomster platform today written about the preparedness paradox. The human capacity to deny harsh realities. The way Cassandra predictions that fail to materialize because of actions taken in response to the warnings are then later denigrated as over reactions by those who failed to heed them.
