Why not housing? Capital has commodified all sorts of other things where we thought it didn't belong: news, health care, education. What could go wrong? Sigh!

There are some policies that could help reduce the demand side of the housing market:

Ban foreign ownership of single-family dwellings. This contributes nothing to the American economy and only puts up housing prices.

Tax land speculation, especially house flipping. This also puts up housing prices without adding any benefit. It is purely extractive.

Prohibit corporate, or any form of business ownership, of single-family dwellings. Ownership should be restricted to individuals and no individual can own more than three of such properties.
