This is the same thing that a lot of us have been saying for a long time. The question of the day and the next six months is how are those of us shouting about this going to wake people up enough to see what's coming and actually scare them into not voting for this possible future? We are already shouting using our media platforms but will it be enough? Somehow these people who only watch Fox news and listen to Alex Rogan style podcasts need to be shook hard and told to wake up and smell the coffee. Prepare to vote in November as if your life depends on it because it actually does if you are an immigrant with a permanent suntan that arrived in the U.S. from one of those "Shithole countries".

A new ABC News poll has Biden leading Trump 49%-45% (+4) with likely voters. This result is similar to this week’s NPR/Marist poll which had Biden up 52%-47% (+5) with likely voters:

ABC News Biden 49%-Trump 45% (+4)

NPR/Marist Biden 52%-Trump 47% (+5)

In both polls Biden does significantly better with likely voters than the broader electorate of registered voters. https://www.hopiumchronicles.com/p/biden-leads-49-45-in-new-abc-poll?utm_source=post-email-title&publication_id=1223483&post_id=144332447&utm_campaign=email-post-title&isFreemail=false&r=zc69i&triedRedirect=true&utm_medium=email

I'm also targeting certain groups we can flip. Amish. Veterans. Looking to organize folks who advocate for SSI recipients. Republicans want to kill it but ironically some are even registered Republicans, and many are MAGATS who metaphorically slit their own throats at the polls. Voted for Trump X 2. Lawyers, medical providers, social workers, care givers have to be influential in their lives.

Please also support other organizations. https://democrats.org/share/

The irony is decimating the middle class will actually decimate the economy. Who’s gonna purchase all of the goods and services that the wealthy billionaires provide? They’re actually cutting off their own feet.

"It will take an overwhelming number of us waking up and becoming politically active to stop this authoritarian juggernaut and rescue American democracy. "

We can do it! Sweep. In 2020, 70 million eligible voters failed to vote. Stats how that most were Democrats. Plus, using data mining, FT6 has identified about 13 million unregistered who trend heavily Democratic. 60% of unregistered voters have never been asked to register! Yesterday I sent 300 texts using FT 8 software to unregistered Floridians. Last week volunteers sent 1000,000 in a couple of hours. Another session today.

To win in 2024, FT6 will reach out to millions of unregistered likely Democrats "using our one-of-a-kind database and every outreach method possible (phone and text, postcard, email and targeted ad, and in-person too), where new Democratic voters will make the most impact – in the most flippable states and districts."

Yep. Individuals who choose to spend their lives focused on grabbing power and accruing wealth are often highly intelligent in that arena alone. When it comes to social awareness or joined up thinking they all too often have the minds and emotions of spoilt four year olds.

The only way to reach the maga voters is to have television and radio commercials played during their favorite entertainment shows. Preferably on lower cost airways. Where are all the liberal billionaires at? We could probably reach all the Donald supporters for a mere 50 million dollars. Apparently ALL the billionaires do not want to pay taxes? I will not be surprised if the media outlets will not sell the left any ad time as we get closer to the election.

The right wing fascist own almost all of the media! Hopefully there is one billionaire that will step forward and fund such a project. Every time we change one Republican vote, it counts as two votes for democracy!

Better plan for the worst and procure survival equipment. It will not be fun living in a failed third world civil war Nation. And I personally do not feel like helping the Donald voters overthrow their new dictator, who has dementia and incontinence and lies constantly.

Here is what worries me about November, and even though I am 85, and possibly have a recurrence of a lung cancer, which I thought was in remission, I worry for my loved ones.

The election hangs on a thread for democracy and freedom

Red and red leaning states have 235 Electoral votes,

Blue States have 226

It takes 270 votes to win

It all comes down to swing states, unless the Democrats can make women's health the major issue in red states.

In 2020 there were eight Swing states, after the election, not before, AZ and GA were surprises.

GA is no longer a swing state, neither is VA, or NC because the Republican legislatures have passed voter suppression laws, limiting drop boxes, and are turning out armed poll watchers to intimidate people of color like they did during Jim Crow.

That leaves five swing states, AZ, NV, PA, MI, WI, between them 61 electoral votes.

Biden won WI, MI, PA by tens of thousands of votes.

Those states have hundreds of thousands of Muslims, who have, along with young black males, have threatened to not vote for Biden or to vote Third Party, like for Cornell West. They believe that they can teach the Democrats a lesson and that the Dems will "course correct" in 2028, but there will be no real election in 2028, Just a Hungarian/Russian election if Trump wins.

Wisconsin has 11 electoral votes, Michigan 15, and Pennsylvania 19.

Wisconsin is totally controlled by the Republican state legislature which overrudes the Democratic governors veto,

If neither candidate gets 270 electoral votes and 570 divided by 2 is 269, or there is some other problem, then the election will be determined by Congress, and the House sworn in

Normally the new congress is sworn in on Jan 3 of an odd numbered year, by a member selected by he majority party (the speaker usually) and the officiant can demur, postpone, the swearing in and nothing at all will happen, and the old Republican congress stays put.

If their is a stalemate then the election is decided by congress and each state gets one vote.

Guess which states have the most votes.

I am no a defeatist, I have a military planning background and before one proceeds on any venture one needs a realistic threat assessment, and this is that.

Our hope lies in making inroads into Red states and the only issue I see before us women's rights.

And what I am is afraid, a forlorn hope, that the Muslims of WI, MI, PA and the young black males come to grips that if they don't vote for Biden, they are voting to deport themselves, as Trump has threatened, and to roll back civil rights gains, as Trump and the Republicans have threatened to make America White, Straight and Christian, again.

One can blame Biden and the Democrats all they want, but that does as much good as blaming the Wieimar Republic, when they were being rounded up and put on cattle cars. The difference is that the Jews, the socialists, the queers didn't do it to themselves.

Thank you for this "tour de force" reality check! Pretty well summed it up, my man. I hesitate to interpolate the uphill battle against vote-killing of the mechanical process: purges by neighborhood, by name similar to out-of-state name; moved polling place; selected assignment of bad machines; drop-boxes in locked buildings; new rules for signatures; all of that. Not just women, but anybody of the "wrong" sort, micro-identified by the Trump/DeJoy sabotaged 2020 Census, needs to be a vigilant hero for vote to count. I fear that the "fix" is already in by these measures.

He would be calling them idiots and other obnoxious ly rude names while smiling and laughing!

In Florida abortion and marijuana are on the ballot. In 2020, Trump won by a 3.4-point margin, improving on his margin from 2016, over Hillary Clinton, by 1.2 points; it was the largest margin for any presidential election in Florida since 2004. The main reason was increased support for Trump among Latino voters in the state, particularly in Miami-Dade County, which Biden carried by 7.4 points, significantly less than Clinton's 29.4-point margin in 2016 and Obama's 23.7-point margin in 2012. Trump carried the Cuban vote with 56%, while Biden carried the Puerto Rican vote with 66%, and Trump and Biden split the South American vote with 50% each. Overall, Biden won 54% of Latinos.

IMHO the major reason was BLM siding with the repressive Communist Cuban government despite the fact that most of the protestors in Cuba were Black.

I live in Miami Dade. We're trying to expand the Democratic base. 80% of women statewide oppose the new 6 week FL abortion law. FT6 is now allied with Fladems, different than in 2022. IMHO we have 100,000 unregistered people here alone. Statewide, Dems are 1 million behind in registrations but 343,932 are minor party members and 3,533,149 registered "no-party."

Aargh, BLM, the worst thing that ever happened to the progressive movement, founded by two black women, they have reveled in their fame and notoreity, even formed a non profit.

That defund the police and the opportunity the protests provided for infiltration by agitators like the "umbrella man" were in part, in my opinion, responsible

for Trump's election in 2020.

I keep trying to tell these ninnies, that protests generally achieve the opposite results of what the organizers hope for, they don't want to hear , because they are emotionally invested in the protest movement.

The anti war movement of the 1960's and 1970's actually prolonged the war, it was 50,000 televised military funerals and middle America who was burying their sons, brothers, cousins, fathers, uncles that caused Nixon to pull out of Vietnam and betray the pledge he made to President Thieu, that scuttled the Paris Peace Talks, ,that Nixon could win the election.

Air headed students and liberals, have no idea of the depth and strength of the forces of reaction in America, even if not right wing fascists, they are turned off by the antics of the left.

Abbie Hoffman and the Chicago Seven did not halt the war, rather by attacking the Democrats, they elected Nixon. If you ask me, it appears that the organizers of these demonstrations are actually agents of the establishment, because the results are just the opposite of what they purport to intend.

These campus idiots pat themselves on the back for being "humanitarian", but they are fools and tools, the reaction to their fucking up the campuses, blocking bridges, barricading free ways, is netting them the opposite of their proclaimed motive.

They have pissed off people who need to get to medical appointments, maybe caused a life or two because an ambulance was blocked, or a fire engine blocked, people have lost jobs, and they are not all sympathetic to occupying universities or public facilities.

Remember the Occupy Movement and Occupy Wall Street, what did they accomplish? Absolutely nothing other than a bunch of kids congratulating themselves and each other.

Even Kent State didn't stop the war.

Unintended consequences, they are Bibi and the Likkud's besties. If anything they are, as they did during the VN war, prolonging the war and the suffering of the people and damaging their own reputation by giving aid and alliance with HAMAS, who has on its hands the blood of every dead and wounded Gazan.

And the forces behind the campus idiots are Arabs and their oil money, and unredeemed old line Marxists, who esteem America to be the enemy of Democracy, while they champion, not directly but by default, a real war criminal on which they are definitely silent, Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin

If they aren't fools then they are tools. Good money wasted on entitled brats of the lucky sperm club

The only proven method to stop governments from being tyrannical is with the sustained nonviolent resistance of 3.5% of the population. And it needs to be done strategically by first ending the powers of corporate personhood to end the limitless bribery. Otherwise we’ll continue to have too many of our elected officials willing to do anything to get re-elected. Including serving Putin by pleasing Trump

How did that non-violent resistance work against Hitler in World war II, Dave? Are any other tyrannical dictators! I really think the right wingers enjoy torturing people who disagree with them. Don't feed the fascist!

Expand full comment

Bob, I apologize for the misunderstanding about the efficacy of sustained nonviolent resistance. I should have qualified my assertion about sustained nonviolent resistance by noting that it is the best proven method, but it’s not guaranteed by any means. It is merely better and more likely to succeed compared to violent resistance, which is less likely to succeed and less likely to result in a stable government. (Check out Erica Chenoweth’s book Civil Resistance that proves the point).

As far as reversing our democracy’s backslide into autocracy, I not only believe that it can work, but I have also proposed a way to make it happen in my Substack posts from 8/31/23 until now.

If you’re interested, please check them out at https://rmdolddave.substack.com/. The first few posts should give you a good sense of what I think can be done, and if you have any thoughts about how to make it better, they would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

First thing that comes to mind, is that the most ardent supporters of the non-violence movement would be the first to be exterminated and that would leave the rest with no real leaders.

Looks to me like survival of the fittest dead ahead. The fascist need to lower the population by about 2/3. About 5 billion humans. They will start with the weakest ones first. The elderly without family, the disabled, the criminals and anyone else that cannot support themselves without a government check. Except pregnant women. They need more young healthy slaves, servants, breeders and soldiers. They will not close the border to the young healthy workers but they will the unhealthy of all races. I think the maga will grab their guns and the GOP will take them away after about 2 years of letting them terrorize the left. Try to grow your own food and get some solar panels in an old big vehicle to live in? You will need gardening supplies and weapons to defend yourself with also. Dehydration seems to be the best way to store the food because it's a lot lighter. I plan on living off the grid even if Biden gets reelected. No more of this nonsense, stress and anxiety. And The barking neighbor dogs.

Susan Eisenhower quotes General Goodpaster who once said to President Eisenhower, “It must take guts to delegate.” Ike’s reply quoted the 19th century German general Helmuth von Moltke, “Centralization is the refuge of fear.”

History records that Ike had no fear.

"Donald the Centralizer" has collossal, massive, epic fear.

History will record that the pod-people (see "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" 1956) who fund, support, and vote for this orange witling [their golden calf] are the most fearful America has ever barfed up.

Revealing reporting such as Thom Hartmann's, Judd Legum's, Tim Snyder's, Diane Francis's and others has a strong impact in opening the flood lights of truth and fact to seekers. What is needed more than admiration for these brilliant sharers IS action. Share this information with people who can act on it. This morning I communicated with NJ's Senator Cory Booker. I spoke to someone at Bonnie Watson Coleman's local office. I've not yet been able to reach Andy Kim, my local Representative, whose busy running for Senate to replace Bob Menendez, but I filled out the long necessary form to let him know what I want to share with him ["The New GOP 'National Ballot Security Task Force'" by Thom Hartmann from May 2nd].

I have another ACTION suggestion: call on Charles Barkley (who persuaded many in GA to register to vote when Doug Smith was running for Senator against a foolish man whose name I forget), and any other well known and popular sports figures to talk to people who have never voted. Did you know that Shaquille O'Neal only registered recently? People who've never voted need support to figure out how to become registered.

Does anyone else have enough perspective to view the overall drama we're all engaged in? And, see the absurdity of the babbling idiot following in his father's footsteps of Dementia? That billionaires pour their excess funds into gleefully? That in many ways DJT will be (under the leadership of Steven Miller) the billionaires' "useful idiot" the Russian term used by Putin?

Project 2025 is the master plan of takeover for the right. Takeover of absolutely everything. They will end public education and have, in fact, already begun the process in a myriad of ways.

They will defund the EPA, the FDA, the CDC. They will “Drill baby drill!” on federal lands — anywhere oil can be found. They will decrease taxes on the wealthy and increase yours to pay for policing. Military funding will increase substantially.

You and I will be paying for the deportation costs of eleven million or more immigrants — both illegal and legal. Many colleges will close their doors as trade schools become the only affordable option for greater knowledge. Teenagers will be hired in large numbers to take the places of immigrants who are arrested for deportation, and they will be paid at half the rate of adults and have no benefits or legal recourse if injured or killed.

Protests will not be tolerated. Women will wear ankle bracelets for state monitoring if a physician is consulted prior to birth.

One could go on and on and on…
