Anyone who, at the very least, fails to vote for President Biden and, I would add, vote blue for every office up for election in November, both deserves what they will get and in my opinion loses the right to be called an American. No one voting for this GQP knows or cares about this country’s laws or ideals. They belong in Russia, China, Hungary or North Korea. Maybe then they would begin to understand, though I am starting to wonder.

I agree! The only problem is that the rest of us might get what we didn't vote for. I am hoping that Hakeen Jeffries is able to go around MAGA Mike Johnson and get the bill passed for supporting our allies, and that working around these lunatics gets set in motion.

Totally agree with your sentiment Roy! I am asking my entire adult family to make our demands know to update the insurrection act immediately!

If Trump is elected what makes anyone think that he will abide by the Constitution or any law there in? Whether it’s the Insurrection Act or anything else? Trump will do what he wants. He will have Putin and the Russians to back him up. The billionaires who control the media and the financial markets won’t do anything. The only way to stop it is to prevent trump from getting “elected”.

Good point! He’s already dissed the constitution. Why would he even follow it! “if the President does it, it’s not illegal “. Nixon. And trump.

Hartmann is correct that next time, Trump will surround himself with people who will do his bidding. He already started that process by pushing for his daughter-in-law to be co-chair of the Republican party. I expect him to choose Ivanka or other close relative to be his running mate, as paranoid dictators are prone to do. You're right Kay. He doesn't care about the law, only what he can get away with.

Agreed. No one seems to fully grasp that despots do not care about laws and will find their way around them once the toadies are installed. Good to fix the laws, but in reality they don’t stop authoritarians- and they def won’t stop Trump in a 2nd term. Tho honestly he doesn’t like to do any work so…

But, just maybe, the Congress would pull together to fight against him. It’s best to at least give them the tools to use.

Tim Kaine has been on MSNBC reminding us that there is a recent law that at least makes the Pres. get Congressional approval to withdraw from NATO. One small step....

I agree they need to fix the insurrection act now. The problem: Johnson.

It would be dead on arrival just like the bi-partisan immigration bill they helped write.

But it doesn’t mean we shouldn’t try.

This has been on my mind for years now… just imagine if Trump’s driver had driven Trump to the Capitol on J6, as Trump demanded. His militants would have been driven to a frenzy. There would have been bloodshed, and Martial law imposed. And we wouldn’t be having this conversation now

I have noticed Trump's recent Shakesperean defense (Methinks... protest too much?) that Jan.6 was not an insurrection because the attackers weren't armed. Somewhere deep in his reptilian brain, he has absorbed the fact that "we" know he knew he had armed troops that the metal detectors were deterring, and "we" know he demanded they be allowed to join the battle. So now he's all about, hey, they weren't armed! When he was specifically informed many were, and he knows "we" know he wanted the reinforcements. I don't know how his id defines "we." Anybody who isn't under his evil spell?

Trump has his paperwork all locked and loaded---isn't that special! Some days I am horrified by reading the Report. Happy Valentine's Day everyone. If you love someone make sure they have this information.

As we found out on January 6th, it is much easier to plan an insurrection these days---you can do it in a fancy hotel with room-service and participants just a phone call away. The concept may be the same as 1792, but there is a sh*tload of new aspects. Also, the timeline restrictions in an Insurrection Act "fix" could be very easily implemented today.

I think I need to call my Representative and Senators.

Voting will not be enough. The Dem party has to win big because the other side will use any and all ways to sow doubt as to the validity of the election. We need all voters especially the low Dem information voter base that does not believe in anything other than economic issues that directly affect them. That is why the Dem party has to have front and center and always first 3 or 4 economic issues repeated at every opportunity by all members the first thing out of their mouths on a daily bases what those 3 or 4 economic issues are besides the cultural issues afterwards as red meat for the bases. Base campaigning is what works and the Dem party did not use it in 2022 and we lost the House. This is what works. Use it.

Also Clayton, the black male and Hispanic voters who want to flip the finger to the Dems because they haven't got everything that they want, and the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th generation Hispanic voters, have a case against the migrants because they believe that they are causing them distress and are the cause of antiHispanic sentiment, like that espoused by Steve Miller, Trump and Bannon.

I shared this with the media and my representatives.

BTW, I wonder who the FOUR House Representatives were that were not present to vote regarding the Mayorkas unconstitutional impeachment? We should post their names and all the names of those that voted to impeach him. They shouted held accountable for this despicable act.

I agree with your well written yet scary article. How is it even possible for tRUMP to run because of his involvement in the insurrection???? Colorado and a few other states tried to follow the constitution and take him off the ballot, but SCOTUS says it’s up to the voters. Why have a Constitution if we only follow some of it, but only when the GOP says.

In Florida; Governor DeSantis already has his own private army. They began getting volunteers several years ago and have been in training. The money for this army was allocated by the Florida Legislature. Now in 2022, the Same Florida Legislature passed HB 1 a DeSantis priority. It is called "Combating Public Disorder." It was enacted in the face of Black Lives Matter protests. However; it is now in place along with Ron's private army. Get the message?

So much for "right to assemble." Anyhow, are Florida's Cubans feeling confused at all? Have any of them gotten the gist, if Castro came back today, MAGA Repubs would celebrate him? Trump would drool all over him?

I love your writing Tom and the information you provide, but a lot of times it's a double edge sword because you're also providing a road map for those crazy motherfuckers to follow.

Guy they don't need a roadmap, they already have one, and it is the best that money can buy.

Trump would not eve be in the news, were it not for donor cash. He has been the cash cow of the billionaires and corporations,, before he even came down the escalator. They wanted one of their own in position, to dismantle the troublesome democracy that restrains their power and control.. Jamie Dimon said at Davos that he is indifferent to Trump or Biden because he can work with both.

Getting a GOP Congress to go along with it? Biden should not have appointed a republican as attorney general is the real problem. Most of the GOP Congress would be locked up for sedition right now, and the supreme Court would not be in the hands of the right wing fascists.

I'm still not sure whose side Biden is on. The Democrats and Biden are not telling the media or the GOP that they now own the border, Israeli war and Ukraine because of their following an undemocratic tyrant.

The only brave hearts on TV are Joy Reid and Jon Stewart. a black woman and a Jew.

The others self censor and stay with the script, provided by editors and producers, always mindful of the ear buds through which they are given instructions or chastized.

No His Niece Mary Trump has written a book very critical of him

Maryann Trump Barry is his sister, she too was critical of her brother, but died last November.

Per her wiki page: In October 2018, The New York Times published an investigative report asserting that Barry, along with her father and siblings, had engaged in fraudulent and illegal activity to limit estate tax and gift tax liability stemming from Fred Trump's real estate enterprises.[25] Investigative journalist Susanne Craig discovered a filing Barry had made to the U.S. Senate as part of her federal judiciary confirmation in 1983, in which she had reported a $1 million contribution from All County Building Supply & Maintenance.[26] The Times reported that All County Building Supply & Maintenance was a "sham company" formed in 1992[26] and owned by Barry, Donald Trump, their siblings and a cousin.

Tax evasion and fraud are a family business.

The whole damn family could be, and should be indicted, butMssr Garland sits there like a stone wall.

When the Judicial Conference accepted the investigation, Maryann "retired."

Mary Trump has lost all her cases, so far, because she signed a release exonerating Uncle Donald. She may/may not be a hypothetical lien creditor against Trump Inc. if and when the firm files for bankruptcy.

I am inclined to believe in the concept of evil sperm. Fred Trump sure produced it, so did Fred Koch, and I can't help but notice that the two sperm donors are responsible for two of the worst famlies ever, Trump and Koch, are both named Fred.

BTW, I lived with my Aunt and her husband Fred Landis, 1946-1948. Fred Landis was an asshole and delighted in beating me, a 7 year old, for any excuse. I got even with him, he had a box of Indian Head Pennies he was collecting and I spread them over a vacant lot.

Nothing can be accomplished at this point in time - given the actions of Mike Johnson following every command of agent orange. Nothing will happen if agent orange cheats his way back into the White House. Nothing will happen if Biden is re-elected and the Democrats do not carry the House and Senate to support him.

So let’s get out the votes to get something done.

Then we can follow Thomm’s excellent advice.
