And what happens when you lie to your children and they find out? They question how much of what they were taught was true. Isn't that exactly what is happening right now? They lost this war on our true history the day the internet was invented. You have to sort through the crap, but the records and research are all there.

The far-right is getting pretty good at losing, and I hope they lose the battle over this legislation. But by 2050 when Hawley is a 72 year old white man in America, the Senator will know what it's like to be a minority. He is already scared, so he has that part down.

Fascinating piece, Thom.

I use the word "piece" with the understanding that this is far more than an interesting read. It is the distillation of reality into word.

This reality, this truth - lived and died by an unfathomable many.

Our Rockwellian wallpaper is paid for by a continued legacy of brutality and injustice.

How is it that our institution of law be so abscessed as to allow for human beings to be provisioned as disposal property? The foundation of our laws operate on technicalities, not spirit (intent) - permitting a gateway to nefarious ends. We must create a system in which the technical aspects of law are in service to the spirit of said law. Without such change, there will exist a never ending supply of clever minded people willing to write riddles in support of the serpents they serve.

A person I highly respect, not only as a scholar, but as an exemplary model of ethics - Andrew Coan - has written on the technical side of our legal system and is an excellent resource in that regard.

Only through understanding - be it empathy, pain, education, etc... will we come to live in a way that no longer reproduces our worst potentials.

Truth must supersede our most comforting and familiar myths, and without question, be taught.

Yeah, I don't want to live in a country that would do this. I just don't.
