As I recall there was a flap over his yelling to enthusiastically at a campaign event. The whole room was yelling, but it was muted so it sounded like he was growling. He was ridiculed until eventually the powers that be labeled him unelectable. Definitely got a raw deal. It's hard to believe that giving a yell like anyone might give at a rally was considered such a gaff, considering what we've seen since.
