Genuine patriots work to heal a country, to bring out its best, to strengthen its social and political fabric and make a better nation and world for future generations.
The Texas law is scary. What is scarier is the approach. Change the term "abortion" to any other behavior or characteristic. E.g. Attending a Synagogue, same-sex marriage, working on Sunday, maintaining an unhealthy weight, having brown eyes, etc.
However, isn't the core of the question whether a State can pass legislation promoting harassment for the exercising of civil rights? Is there not a case for those targeted by these suits to counter-sue for civil rights violations? Seems this is the Legal industry's 2021 Full Employment act.
Then you have the ones that think of themselves as Conservative. They consider conservative to be wholesome and good. They watch Fox News because it says what they want to hear. They do not see that they are getting the news with the opinion that they should have on it. They are told that January 6th was just another tourist day at the capital. They see clean cut Americans giving the news and enjoy the knee high camera angles. The news is filtered so that they do not hear what they do not want to hear. They believe that CNN and MSNBC are nothing but lies, even with no proof. They hate Rachel Maddow, even though they have never watched her show. They quote facts with no reference, because they are actually lies.
This statement is my opinion. If you do follow this site at all, you will know that I usually post reference. This opinion is based on people like my Brother in Law or neighbors in my right wing neighborhood. Being "a conservative" is more important than anything else to them.
SHAAZAM! WHAT THOM JUST SAID!] 😉 I'm curious if any of the fellow Christians here are tired and disgusted with those (above) using Jesus and God as their reasoning for violent, intolerant, hypocritical and non-Christ like agenda? I'm curious if any of them know their actions are the cause of a decline in church attendance and new membership into Christianity. I, for one, certainly am.
Whenever I'm confronted by one of these haters, I tell them that Jesus was a twin, because the Jesus I learned about and pray to is anything but the Jesus they speak of! Good Grief!
We will be getting a further glimpse into the world and minds of some of the folks mentioned when we finally hear more about the insurrection of 1/6.
Legend mentioned "The Republican Brain" recently. That book made me more compassionate toward them. We are not wired the same. I learned something further recently. A neurologist said he thought the amygdala (fight or flight) and the pre-frontal cortex (judgement) parts of their brains are not communicating, so they react. Making decisions from a flight or fight perspective creates a hell for all of us. There are reasonable solutions, but they are not using reason.
Whether it's genetics, nature or nurture, we have to overcome their agendas. They need to be held accountable for the violence or their attitudes, but I just wish we could help them in the process.
If you only watch Fox News you get a very slanted view of our world. It gets worse from there if you add OANN, Newsmax, right wing websites and right wing radio. After Trump the Republican Party has become the Party of lies. Trump taught them that it works. Look at the January 6th investigation and Kevin McCarthy's threat to 60 companies about release of evidence. Obvious witness tampering. Are Republicans proud of that? https://news.google.com/search?q=kevin%20mcCarthy&hl=en-US&gl=US&ceid=US%3Aen
Ya, I wonder who is listening to his calls and monitoring everything he does now. He may have messed with the wrong companies. Absolutely, another thing the Justice Dept. needs to look at. There will be some companies more than happy to help....
Folks who have developed a “conservative” mind don’t deal well with ambiguity or nuance, however, they HAVE formed a dangerously tenacious attachment to their tribes/cults that control their beliefs. The powers of corporate personhood have enabled the oligarchs and morbidly wealthy psychopaths to take advantage of our cognitively challenged citizens and use their angry voices to control our elected and appointed officials. The oligarchs employ “conservative” propagandists to foment and exploit hate through their array of wedge issues (i.e., racism, religion, abortion, guns, etc.), creating really pissed off Americans who forego their critical thinking skills and perpetuate the status quo of the morbidly wealthy.
I used to think that the only way to get “conservatives” to change their minds is if their cult leader tells them to, but after Trump got booed at his recent Alabama pep rally for telling supporters to get vaccinated, now I believe that nothing short of expensive and probably unconstitutional deprogramming will work. (Maybe that is the only way to build a linkage between their lizard brains and their pre-frontal cortexes, and then they would be equipped to think before they do something else that is criminally stupid.)
Sorry! I attributed that book recommendation (The Republican Brain) to Legend when it was you, Dave. Now I remember it was you talking to John, so I hope he reads it. It took my anger down a notch. Mooney is a science writer, and since he isn't a scientist, he was free to express he thinks perhaps we need them. NO WE DO NOT. There is enough diversity on the left for balance. I would also argue we can't afford them. It was published in 2012 before Trump, corona virus, and the insurrection. People have lost even their damn lizard minds, and the virus data proves it.
I can’t agree more and would like to offer another way of confronting their behavior using the “hate the sin and love the sinner” method of problem resolution, which is as pre-frontally cortexual as I can get. In other words, the Seven Deadly Sins work great as the reasons our poorly educated citizens choose to do bad things, and regardless of the sin, you can bet there’s an oligarch or two who’s paying the propagandistas to exploit it with classic wedge issues. For example whether they exploit the wrath, envy, hubris, or sloth of our poorly educated, the go-to wedge for the oligarchs has always been racism, and now the propagandists have figured out even more clever ways to use those citizens who are into gut (or lizard brained) decision making (which seems to be a pretty slothful way of thinking-i.e., just like W). Those of us who learned to be bad at learning are easy marks for the most sophisticated propaganda enterprises that have ever flimflammed a civilization. As far as loving the sinner, that’s a tough one if he's an asshole.
All my life I've tried to tell these people as I have encountered them, we're not enemies, but in truth we have the same enemies. Why can't we stand together and make this a better country? Now, I'm sorry to say, it seems the time for talking is just about over. All that's left is preparing to defend our lives from a terrible mistake.

Mexico will become the go to abortion clinic for Texans. Many use the Dental and pharmaceutical already. https://www.yahoo.com/news/mexico-supreme-court-rules-abortion-191835366.html
