It's treason. Too bad that doesn't mean anything to republicans. Yet.

We're here, sadly. And about a third of the country thinks what's happening is great, and another third seems to be uninterested or "they don't want to be political".

Republicans like uneducated voters for just this reason and have been working toward this end since at least Reagan. These people vote against their own best interests repeatedly, and then blame the Democrats for their miserable lives.

I fear that we are all are facing a very unpleasant wake-up call. Who are we going to blame then?

To quote Walt Kelly's Pogo: "We have met the enemy and he us."

I don't think that's true anymore. More than half the population receives some form of government benefit now under the gun. That includes a lot of Republicans, now in the noose, -- even some Congressional Republicans. Multiply that by the national security issue, and financial siucide by tarriff, etc..

We need to enlist people affected.

That is very true Martha. As a toothless bib overalled dude stood on his pallet step outside his one wide in Mississippi, gazing at his trash strewn lawn, told Alexandra Pelosi, when asked why he was opposed to food stamps, because them lazy colored folks don't deserve them, when she mentioned that you too get food stamps he said, that's different I deserve them.

We need to impress Congressional Republicans. Consider those who represent majority Dem districts. Who support Ukraine. Whose donors are being bankrupted by suicide tarriffs. Those who personally lost benefits.

We know who is the great loser, ourselves. So who is the great winner? Surprise, surprise - not Putin. Yes, he gains some breathing space; but the big winner is XI (Why don't we call him "Eleven"?). This headline is telling:

"China Displaces the U.S. as Global Leader in Research, with 9 of top 10 Institutions"

Russia has only strong-arm methods, up to and including actual war. China is doing it without firing a shot. And we are so weakened by trump's antics that there seems to be nothing we can do about it.

Thom, this article is nothing short of "brilliant!" You have created the antithesis to Project 2025. I have been troubled by the apathetic inhumanity and callousness of this administration. Their actions are anti-christian. I am fearful that our democracy may be lost to this coup. But you have laid out all of their horrible policies and actions that have dismantled our democracy. I have seen a communist society, while stationed in W. Germany, early 1980s. We were required to go on a tour to the Hof border crossing, separating West from East Germany. The tour was a requirement for our orientation to W. Germany. We arrived at the a border town that was separated east and west by a gate We entered a building tgat gave us a clear view of E. Germany as we had climbed to the top of a building. We got a view of the horrible degradation and poverty of this communist regime. People wore two colors black and grey, waited in soup/bread lines. They all looked miserable, unkempt, poorly groomed, sullen, malnourished and pale. I fear that we are headed in that direction if We don't take heed of your instructions . Its up to US to stop the kleptocracy

Elect a madman Putin-puppet ["No puppet," my ass!], expect a Mad House.

I think the real prez and vice prez, South Afrikkkaners (Musk & Sacks), have a throwback semi-concentration system in mind. A permanent source of cheap labor.

During apartheid in South Africa, areas where Black people were forced to live were called "Bantustans" or "homelands." These were regions designated for different ethnic groups, and the government claimed they were independent territories. However, they were underdeveloped, overcrowded, and lacked resources, serving as a way to segregate and control the Black population.

How Christian is THAT, Evangelicals, et al ???

Just yesterday, I was reading about Soutwest Afrika, from whence Peter Thiel came to us.

A former German colony, South West Africa became known as Namibia by the UN when the General Assembly changed the territory's name. A territory under South African administration from 1915 to 1966, and under South African occupation from 1966 to 1990.

The main street in the capitol is still "Herman Goering Boulevard." Many of the white concurrent majority speak Germen as a first language.

There is a strong argument that all these folks see apartheid South Africa as paradise lost and want to impose it on us.

That includes a-holes like David Sacks, who would have himelf exterimated under Nazi policy.

Thom, with this you’ve given every Democrat worth electing or re-electing their marching orders. The Democratic Party’s historically low approval rating should make it clear to them that, to borrow from our Canadian brothers, it’s elbows up time. I hope you’re on Ken Martin’s speed dial.

Expand full comment

This from Corbin Trent oped in The Nation:

"The Democratic Party, as it is, fundamentally doesn’t want transformation. It doesn’t see the moment it’s in. Democrats believe they barely lost the presidency, barely lost the House, barely lost the Senate, and so the strategy should be to claw back a few seats, squeak out a win, and return to business as usual. But business as usual is exactly what got them here. They aren’t trying to build an overwhelming majority because they don’t believe they need to—and worse, they don’t even want to."

We need to remind the congressmen that they need to take action!

Given that the United States is a rogue nation, there may be some orchestration by President Putin. However, when most of the world despises you, thine enemies are many. Then, of course, there does exist the distinct possibility that the United States is imploding on its very own. Which tends to be my thinking because, if the "US" is such a global baddass and "the greatest nation on Earth" it would be impervious to attack of any type; except that which it inflicts upon itself.

That's Putin's wish list, to destroy the strength and power of its biggest enemy, the United States, and destroy it internationally as well, so that the U.S. is never again a threat to whatever Czar Putin wishes to do. In laying this out, Thom, you're making the case that Trump is a willing asset for Putin and Russia and there's much information from other sources to buttress that argument.

Everything with Trump is trans actual, he sees money in everything.

His tariffs go up and down because it is his way to extort money from the affected business.

Same when he extorts money from the law firms, colleges etc. give him a few million and poof the threads go away. Trump and Musk are the biggest grifters in the country.

If Trump wanted Greenland for strategic reasons he could restore the many military basis we had in the past (Greenland will welcome that). Instead he wants Greenland for its large deposit of valuable minerals. Same with Canada, he sees dollar signs, timber, oil etc.

Now he is demanding payback from the Ukraine. You just have to follow the money.

Putin and the far right institutions pay him millions to do their bidding, Trump is a sociopath he will do anything for money without any remorse.

His other hobby is counter suing people (4000 and counting), he is obsessed with gold and glitter to cover up his insecurities. Trump and Mrs are morally bankrupt people, they are happy to destroy our democracy in exchange for unchecked power and wealth.

The only reason Hitler's henchman had a bad ending is because Das Grosser Reich was taken down from the outside, not the inside. A lesson we Americans have not learned.

There is no force on the outside to take down the 4th Reich of the Rich, it will have to be done from the inside. Or Trusk,(Trump/Musk) is so lacking of forethought, that they and their wrecking ball crew, will destroy all that made America the superpower that once was, we are on the decline, but the fall is not immediate so it is not immediately felt. It will be by the time Trusk finishes the job, but look at the harm done, the people who will suffer and die.

You can absolutely bet that Putin has orchestrated and is running this shit show but maybe not alone. Trump is now pretending to be hard on him about Ukraine negotiations. Another masterful show of disinformation PUT ON by Putin.

China comes out the winner. We have made them powerful financially. Their workforce (or one could say forced) came through for Xi and the CCP.

It's likely Putin and Xi are actually doing this together. Russia is in a weakened state in many ways. Who knows what Xi has promised them and has already given them.

Putin is going to need somewhere to flee if the Russians ever get brave enough to dump him. He can take that other Syrian psychopath, Assad, with him. Maybe everyone of these psychos will end up like many of the others in history. Duterte is in the Hague. A girl can dream.

Good lesson today, Thom!
