The answer to all of this is breaking up the monopolies. A "deep state" that ultimately reports to large corporations is a threat to all of us. A deep state truly committed to protecting our democracy is not a threat.
Breaking up the monopolies reduces corporations ability to control the deep state and law makers....
Halting progress has never and will never be the answer..

Who will have the will, or the power, to "trust-bust" now? Maybe Taylor Swift? I'm not really joking. There's a great passive, ignorant majority who only notice if the conglomeration fails to perform. I think a shining example of the state serving business is Texas. I call them a third-world colony of Big Oil. They cut the state off of the national grid, and then can't keep the power on to heat or cool their own citizens, and the victims vote their (deadly) oppressors back in.
It is a movement and it takes lots of people waking up to the reality and taking action. People like Hartman and Stoller are getting the word out there. Elected officials are no longer ignoring the issue.
And you are right, someone like Swift can have a big role in turning on the masses to this problem.
The US has fought off Monopolies in the past and we can and will do it again. The key every time is the ballot box. If voters demand leaders that will fight monopolies then they will eventually get leaders that doe that.
My strategy is always voting against the incumbent in the Primary unless that incumbent is an ardent enemy of monopolies. I am a Democrat but i campaign against Nancy Pelosi and Diane Feinstein in their primaries every single time.... That is a start....
