Also the tobacco pushers are legal drug dealers for individuals. The petroleum ones are...well, the way I imagine countries fighting over oil is as though they are junkies battling for a needle full of poison. Incidentally there is nothing new here. A century ago the oil companies were clearly warned that putting lead into gasoline would mess up the brains and nervous systems of those exposed to its fumes. Their response was to lie, fudge the data and when finally caught in the 1970s try to threaten and bribe their way out of making changes.

Perhaps certain businesses attract people without consciences. Like the bright young recruiter at DoD who I chatted with when considering a civilian job there and had questions about it. He said, "Why do you care how your work is used? You're not the one dropping the bombs." These oil people seem no different at all...except that the ecological bell will toll for them and their children too.
