The big question is what can we do aside from emailing our congressman and women and citing how many unlawful, unconstitutional, impeachable actions this administration has engaged in thus far.

Yeah ok I'll keep phoning and emailing elected officials, for what it's worth. Nevertheless, I feel as if I'm locked in an outhouse dying of methane gas that's blowing out of Trump's mouth. The dictator, his sycophants, and the dumb (plural expletive) who voted him in will someday be locked in their own outhouse. Schadenfreude.

This is a coup. The Republicans have declared war on its citizens. Who's next? What King Shitpants couldn't finish on January 6th, he's completing now. As they stand and piss on the Constitution. A.L.E.C has been going state to state trying to ratify the Constitution. They want it to say only one thing, "We own your ass."

It's fascinating that the 10 yr old Dungeon and Dragons boys are now in charge.

The Civil War never ended. It has evolved in phases throughout history. Jim Crow has been regenerated to fit into Republicans narrative. They love playing the race card. The Southern Economic Development Model (www.epi.org,) lives on. They never abandon the Southern strategy.

I've been calling both sides all week. Democrats had 4 years to brace for this. Now they're licking their wounds with a deer in the headlights look. What the fuck!! I read all 922 pages of Project 2025. They told us what they were going to do. Now it's a fucking surprise?! Our political system is broken. Just fucking broken. The media sucks a bag of dicks. John Harris/Politico wrote Shitpants is a great President. We're so fucked.

Guantanamo naval station is 2.6 mi. long by 0.78 mi. wide. (2.028 sq. mi.). When I was there (1986) the built up area was not there. In any case putting that number of people in that area would be a humanitarian crisis worthy of an appearance in court at Nuremberg for whoever was involved. Getting food and water to that many people would be almost impossible. Even if you could, the sanitation system would never be able to handle it. It can be seen (and Measured) on Google Pro.

docrhw Weil's avatar

Well you know the area better than I. But the total size is, according to a quick check, 45 square miles. Obviously a lot of it could not be used for detainees--part of is water and you need infrastructure like runways, hangers, base housing, docks and so on. And clearly you are right that supplying so many occupants would be a huge and ongoing operation, not to mention their medical needs. Apparently after 9/11 there were plans for upwards of 30,000 people to be kept there but those facilities, if they ever existed, are gone. But also Trump was just talking about the "signs in Chinese in the Canal Zone". I just sailed through the Panama Canal, there were no such things and anyway the Zone was terminated in 1979. But then good planning and truth were never his strong suits.

Would like to know what reference shows 45 sq. mi. Is that the area of the U.S. lease (expired) with Cuba? I Measured the developed area using Google Pro.

Expand full comment
docrhw Weil's avatar

Right, that's the references I've got for the whole leased area, which says about 6 x 12 miles. (Again, I'm guessing that includes some of the water in the bay itself.) I wouldn't be surprised--you may have seen this--if some of it is rough land that couldn't be developed anyway, and presumably they wouldn't want to build close to the fence. So I guess there's room to spread out to a point, but building a small city? Ridiculous. I've not seen it; was in Havana and our guide joked about being on the other side but "close to our island's fast food restaurants" there.

It is obvious. Trump is destroying the United States of America, from the inside out period.

A Manchurian candidate couldn't do better.

I pride myself on being rational and evidence based, not prone to wild eyed conspiracy theories or science fiction scenarios.

But there are a couple of movies that fit

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Arrival_(1996_film) this film was about aliens disguised as humans, who were purposefully warming the planet, to make it habitable for themselves

And the miniseries Braindead featuring the lovely Mary Elizabeth Winstead who discovers that Washington, D.C. has been invaded by extraterrestrial insects which are eating the brains and taking control of people, including members of Congress and their staffers. Much of the internal comedy of the series was that, in the altered reality of Washington, D.C. politics, only a few people noticed.

It even features a Lindsey Graham like antagonist.

It is easy to see Trump as the AntiChrist, though I am not a believer, far from it, but he fits the mold, as his most devout supporters claim to be Christians.

Or maybe the 2009 TV Miniseries V https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/V_(2009_TV_series)

Nothing makes sense.

Am I living in some kind of alternate reality, Earth 2, the Matrix?

The world has turned upside down, nothing makes sense. Muslims supporting Islamophobes like Stephen Miller. Jews supporting neo NAZI's. Like the ADL supporting Musk and "Jews will not replace us Trump,. blacks supporting and applauding racists like Musk )ex Anglican priest Calvin Roberts in Detroit), and of course the black males who voted for Trump. trans like Caitlin Jenner supporting Trump, and of course the Hispanic Trump voting community, especially of Florida.

And of course the millions of misogynistic, self hating females who voted for went to jail for condone violence for Trump

Nothing makes sense. The next time the world stops I'm getting off.

“…we’re going to have to hold our breath for the next 4 years“

It is naive and foolish if not downright idiotic to imagine that 4 years will mark the end of any of this. Have you not been paying attention? What, in your wildest dreams, do you expect will happen in 4 years? What magical thing?

It is time for the Dems to organize and have a unified resistance to the repubs. Not one vote for anything that they put forth. The repubs in Congress were nasty when the dems had control (barely) but they were always sticking together. Time for us to do the same and gum up the works. And let's have some of the younger generation have more leadership roles. They have tons of energy and are chomping at the bits to get going. We don't need old fuddy duddies who are more concerned with their investments than governing.

And once again- power to the people!

Credit Chris Coons for articulating the utter failure of the Democratic Party in the time of donvict. When Patel and Gabbard refuse to confirm they’d disobey an illegal of unconstitutional order, Sen. Coons unequivocally stated “It gives me real pause”. Gives you “pause”?!? Far too many Dems seem to believe “loyal opposition” means “lackadaisical observation”. They share Repugnican guilt for where we are today and must be replaced by people for whom taking their oath of office is more than a performative exercise. The Democratic old guard is definitely old, but it clearly isn’t a guard. If the fascists succeed in dismantling the DOJ and FBI, “pause” becomes full stop.

Liberals love the term "woke" to refer to enhanced awareness of reality. Of course, the opposite of the term woke would be sleeping. Trump was right in labeling the head of the Democratic Party as "Sleepy," and it appears that the DNC is still napping while clueless know-it-alls tear down our democracy. On "Day 1" Musk invites the FAA Administrator to quit - he does. Then he emails all air traffic control specialists and encourages them all to quit and find more productive jobs in the private sector. Then 67 people die in an aircraft collision right in Trump's backyard. Then 2 days later, another jet falls from the sky into Philadelphia.

Both catastrophes happened on Trump's watch, and inarguably were due to his incompetent personnel management. It always makes sense to encourage your workforce to quit when it has been short-staffed for decades. No wonder he blames everybody but himself for this carnage rather than console the families of his victims.

I wonder why the entire federal workforce is taking trump's beating rather than staging a national walkout - shutting down America - just to show MAGAs that their government is not "broken" just that they need to get woken and motivate their cowardly GOP senators to impeach Trump and toss out Trump's techie Gestapo.

Musk is also known to have close ties to Putin, which makes him and any of his employees who gain access to these computers a national security risk. Have any of them been subjected to the standard FBI investigation, like any normal aerospace worker with access to confidential information requiring a Secret Clearance, let along a Top Secret or higher clearances?

Kayo's avatar

My understanding is that they have not had full security clearance investigations. As a result, most of them would not be able to obtain a position at any aerospace center that required access to classified buildings or documents.

Yet there they are, marching into positions where they underqualified and very likely compromised.

And now that Trump/Musk tell CA$H Patel when to jump and how high, the entire national security apparatus of the US will be increasingly at risk. Where are the Democrats? When they should be screaming bloody murder.

Sorry. I believe calling the Capitol switchboard will not get the job done at this late stage. If any and all persons with influence or clout do not get in the faces of those Fox Noise indoctrinated, Kool-Aid drinking, spineless Republican senators before they vote and before any more damage is done and if they do not do some serious deprogramming and to threaten them and wake them up, there will be no more government as we know it. Hostile forces have invaded from all directions and have penetrated into crucial agencies such as the Treasury, FBI, and Pentagon. If MuskRump et al are not stopped now by those feckless senators, my advice is to get out of the country if you can.

Why the HELL is a private citizen who gets millions from the government being allowed to access Government payment services? No money goes out except money allocated to go out by Congress. This needs to be shouted and STOPPED!

Quotas & camps!!! You do recall where that came from all those years ago. Strict records kept by the Nazis as to numbers not names of people sent to their deaths. Sent to camps away from the public's prying eyes, where there is little to no oversight, you know like a Guantanamo Bay camp housing 30,000. If you think it can't happen here think again. Last night the purge of the FBI & the Justice Depertment employees that worked on the J-6 riot, ooooh, excuse me the J-6 lovefest! And who will replace those long time civil servants? Why trump loyalists of course! And we can be Goddam sure that they aren't going to give a rat's ass about worrying whether what they are doing is legal or not. Remember their boss has a get out of jail free card & he can share that with his henchmen & women.
