As you noted in your article Thom, it required a Great Depression and a World War to produce the type of electoral change necessary to significantly change the trajectory of the Nation. I wonder if something that catastrophic would be sufficient to effect the changes that are required today? The plutocrats are even wealthier, more organized, and have greater societal and political control through their concentrated corporate ownership, modern technology, and available bribery funds?

I've read that DeSantis has lined up 22 billionaires to support his 2024 POTUS bid, including Charles Koch and other like minded, radical right-wing plutocrats. Florida used to be a purple state, but DeSantis has followed his marching orders and gerrymandered it into a red state. It's grossly inadequate State Budget of 105 billion is funded by a very low, regressive state income tax. The poorest people pay at a higher rate than the richest. Their Plan A is to mooch off the Federal Government and leave a lot of citizens stranded and stretched with higher property insurance premiums, if affordable insurance will be available. Hurricane Ian is estimated to cost 258 billion alone, and Florida has other major environmental problems its budget doesn't begin to adequately address. No wonder DeSantis has focused on not wearing masks or getting vaccinated, CTR where it doesn't exist, and going to war with teachers, librarians, Disneyland, minorities, and Dem AG's.
