The Ballad of Cricket
In Honor of Today.....So here’s my song from beyond the grave, A dog’s last words, from the life she gave. If you see her rise, just pause and reflect, A heart that cold, what will it wreck?
Verse 1
I was just a dog, living life with a wag,
Didn’t ask for much, just a pat and a snack.
But she called me "worthless," less than the dust,
In her cold, hard gaze, there was no love or trust.
Chorus
Oh, Kristi, why’d you hate me so?
Was it the joy I brought, the love I’d show?
In the gravel pit, you made your stand,
With a gun in your grip, not a helping hand.
Verse 2
I saw the goat next, with his musky old ways,
He’d chase the kids, yeah, he had his days.
But Kristi said, “He’s rancid, he’s mean,”
Dragged him to the pit where the grass turned green.
Chorus
Oh, Kristi, why’d you hate us so?
Was it something we did, or just your show?
In the gravel pit, we met our fate,
Two shots to the past, love turned to hate.
Bridge
Now she’s up there, aiming for the top,
Banning love, banning care, she’ll never stop.
No rights for women, no planet to save,
Just laws for control and a cold, dark grave.
Verse 3
I hear the whispers, “She’s tough, she’s grand,”
But I’ve seen her heart, cold as the land.
If you can’t love a dog, what’s left inside?
Just power and anger, and a heart full of pride.
Chorus
Oh, Kristi, why’d you hate us so?
Even a goat deserved better, you know.
In the gravel pit, where dreams are torn,
You left a legacy bitter and worn.
Outro
So here’s my song from beyond the grave,
A dog’s last words, from the life she gave.
If you see her rise, just pause and reflect,
A heart that cold, what will it wreck?
Had me in tears from the beginning. I've had so many lovely and loyal companions leave me behind. It has been four years since my beloved Kendra passed and she visits me every night just before I fall to sleep. Kendra was not a dog,but a cat. A cat that acted like a dog sometimes.
There is no love greater than a dog's love and no heart colder than the one that beats in the breast of Kristie.
