I am going to catch hell for this comment, but as uncomfortable as it may be, it is a fact.

Of course some MAGAt true believers also paid the price, but the price, to them, was well worth it.
The people who live in these communities are highly social, even more social than whites, parties get togethers even recognition on the street is of importance, and thus more susceptible to the spread of airborne infectious disease.
And yes the motivation was racist, the motivation is racist today, and it is more incredible that gen x,y, z blacks and Hispanics voted for Trump. The Mark Robinsons, Clarence Thomas', Herschel Walkers, Tim Scotts, Kanye West, Byron Donalds, Candace Owens leave me scratching my head.
The white boys and gals that PUT TRUMP IN OFFICE ought have you scratching both you head and your ass. Further WTF does your racist posterior know about "The people who live in these communities" while you pontificate in Sleepy Hollow on that of which you have zero experience, let alone knowledge?

It was similar during the AIDS epidemic.
To this day, "herd immunity" is still the policy of my state, although more Republicans died than Dems in Florida.
Here is how I feel. Democrats, progressive parents, people who have two neurons to rub together will get vaccinated.
The haters, the idiots won't, and will suffer, it is one way to winnow the gene pool of defectives.
