This is The Handmaid’s Tale on steroids! These misogynistic religious lunatics make me want to scream and tear my hair out. Fucking bastards. Do we have freedom in this country or don’t we? Not if these bible thumpers get in power. The average apathetic “uninformed” American has no damn idea what’s at stake in this election.

BTW Simon sayz that 80 million postcards and letters are about to hit the battleground states. Hopefully this will be the fulfillment of the FT 6, Movement Labs, Galvanize Action, etc registration drive and persuade the "persuadables". This weekend was the start of DNC GOTV.

Speaking of: I got 20 postcards from a group called MomsRising, all stamped and preaddressed. They were all for Sammish WA, so I looked it up. A very affluent suburb of Seattle that sends a Democrat to the House every 2 years. More research revealed it is a Republican org. So I wrote my own note SAVE DEMOCRACY VOTE BLUE thank you. They just sent me another batch of their postcards.

Think Menstrual Monitoring is science fiction? Consider how Peter Thiel's company Palantir tracks millions of people already for the police. And how other billionaire tech donors to Trump stand to profit from menstrual monitoring. Follow the money with this interactive map.

I’m 84, and I am outraged by this invasion of the privacy of millions of women. We are NOT inferior to straight white men, in fact, women have not yet had an opportunity to show our strength and dedication to the sacred duty to democracy. It’s way past time for women to wield power. Men should pray that we don’t want revenge for all the damage they have inflicted upon us. No, we want to be able to make our own decisions about not just our own bodies, but our lives. The GOP and those who advocate for theocracy are asking for a national strike against men’s control of women. Their religion is not ours, and we will not stand for it.

Sorry about the rant, but I have had the BS up to my eyebrows, and I am as angry as I have ever been in my life! Equality NOW for women, LGBTQ+, and racial and ethnic minorities. How dare they think they are superior?

"...the failure of our media to focus on their clear and explicit — and public — declarations of intention is journalistic malpractice." The men controlling media - the oligarchs who want cheap and compliant labor from poverty backgrounds - are in the tank for re-enslaving women to this end. Right now, Trump is their man, but JD Vance will be better and they know it. Elect Trump and within a year, he will be removed and Vance will be on the move. He's planning it; the right is planning it. Oh, they have to do this covertly and the way they do it is to refuse to report on what is happening.

If Trump is elected, there will be nothing we can do to stop it.

You are so right! I hate to admit that choosing JD Vance was a brilliant strategic move for the forces of fascism. He has the chops to be ever so much more effective and long-lived than Trump. His youth, his knowledge of law and his despicable political proclivities position him as the most dangerous of the MAGA office holders.

Whereas Mike Johnson is a limp noodle, Vance is a nasty, hardened piece of work, having grown up in a mean, dysfunctional environment.

Not only will the doctors and nurses leave red states, but women will migrate as well. Underground resistance has already swelled. I grew up before Roe v Wade and birth control. I had friends butchered in back alley abortions, never able to bear again. I lost my first baby at 8 months due to a prolapsed cord during an emergency birth. Bearing and birthing is no picnic. It can kill you. It can kill the baby. (thankfully, I was able to bear two more children successfully). The trauma inflicted by pregnancies and miscarriages, (a foreign body is growing in you that your immune system is trying to suppress and expel if the fetus is not viable or the hormones for feeding the fetus don't kick in) wanted or unwanted, the fearful task of childbirth is VERY REAL. Women have to conquer the fear, pain, and constant discomfort. Mothers don't have a life of their own for years on end. Isn't that enough suffering? Now they don't get to choose when they will willingly go to war with their own bodies to produce another? Now we are conscripted into a bearing service for the ego trips of Spartan men who want a family they can ignore without impunity, who don't bear the physical, emotional, or half the time the financial responsibility of raising their own children. To say it isn't fair skims the surface of the deepest division of our humanity. Pair bonding made us human, united in raising young, but these cultists want to have their troop alliance like the apes instead, to dominate, rape, and control. These power mongers want to sacrifice the lives of their daughters and wives to the Alphas and throw their sons into the fire of the God of War. WE WON'T GO BACK.

Seriously, there has to be a copy of The Handmaid's Tale right next to JD's Bible. I truly hope Governor Walz calls him a weirdo to his face.

Talk about "Mind your own business"!!! Get him Governor Walz! Your daughter and everyone's daughters are depending on you. AND they are depending on us to VOTE.

If we decided that the Comstock Act should not be enforced, can you imagine what the young women in this country will decide if someone tries to monitor their periods or pregnancies? The pregnancy monitoring has begun in some places, but on the other hand so has the legislation to protect abortion rights.

Republican insistence on the Comstock Act is proof positive that we need a Federal law. Abortion and birth control could be the hill they die on.

Expand full comment

Alis: The Comstock Act can probably be enforced until it's repealed, but monitoring menstrual cycles for pregnancy will be impossible. Many women, such as myself (Ehlers-Danlos syndrome) or other conditions cause menstrual cycles to be irregular. Even upsetting life events, stressful jobs, or inadequate diets cause delayed cycles without pregnancy. Then there are miscarriages as a natural way of ending an embryo's coding mistake when dividing, which is estimated to be 1/3 of pregnancies where most women are even unaware they are pregnant. Monitoring who buys at-home pregnancy tests would probably be more accurate.

However, such monitoring will be an excuse to invade privacy, leading to more control over the mudsill population and causing women to have children due to fear when they don't choose to for economic or other reasons, just as parading black voters in handcuffs on the news who voted when they were supposedly ineligible because they hadn't paid their fines caused tens of thousands of people not to vote who were eligible in Florida due to the fear of taking a chance on being arrested.

The Comstock Act comeback could mean we are going to need porn and masturbation police for the men and boys. This could lead to the largest increase in the penal industrial complex EVER Ooops, there goes their voting rights!

Also impossible, but that doesn't seem to stop them trying, Gloria.

This is the last gasp of the Right wing nuts of white Christian Nationism which pretends the Liberals are a threat to their trad way of life. This fantasy and lies is all they have as a framework to pick up guns and kill everyone that disagrees with them. As if the Civil War was not instructive to them of what that outcome would be. Hyper pro killers are cowards so their base of murders is small and unable. A Division from CA would be sufficient to kick the butt of their best army of militias. The quick demise of the action would put to rest any more rebellion.

Since there are more female voters than there are male voters, if the GOP does not get away with gerrymandering, the women who vote for the menstrual police deserve their fate and their children's fate and their grandchildren's fate!

We can't help people who will not help themselves and lunatics are incapable of helping themselves. Every time we try to help them, we end up getting blamed for their unhappiness. We have tried to give them a first-rate nation with a decent standard of living and all they have tried to give us is a freaking dictatorship where they want a day of purging and worshiping Hannibal lector. We need to draw a line with Ukraine! Stop them over there at all costs, even if it means blowing the whole planet up! Kneeling to be fascists will just increase the human suffering.

The right wingers are not pro-life they are pro birth and survival of the fittest. They want a lot of babies so they can kill off a lot of soldiers and have a lot of cheap slaves of all races! In my opinion, this goes all the way back to when the alpha chimpanzee was shaking the tree and ruled the pack!

Or we could just ignore them and watch them turn our agnostic nation into a religious cesspool especially with global warming, and starvation! As I am old and have little to live for, the young people have better start using their minds if they have any!

These idiots don't even realize that miscarriages are natural abortions and after a miscarriage you need your uterus cleaned out of tissue remnants...if you do not get this MEDICAL procedure, you will get sepsis and you die without medical care...every woman knows this because we all either have had miscarriages or know someone who has had a miscarriage...it's very common.

Even without "menstrual police" (and I don't discount that likelihood), just enforcing the Comstock Act will make a mockery of "liberty, equality and justice for all." Will men be monitored for condom use or vasectomies? Will the condom industry allow that? Last year Mexico decriminalized abortion nationwide. It's for sure that American women of means will be able, as always, to obtain abortions - in this case by "vacationing" in Mexico. It's working class and poor women, rape victims and young incest victims who will suffer horribly, die, have their lives ruined. Thank you, "protector"-in-chief!

TLDR — Natural endings of pregnancies occur about 1000 times more often than elective or emergency endings. 1000 times more! Enough with the deranged attacks on reproductive freedom !

—-

By good rough estimate, about half of females are ovulating. ( 26% of the population per the UN )

So in the USA, about 80 million living, viable human eggs are discarded every month — in the natural, human process of living our regular human lives .

Many, many, many of those are fertilized, but just don’t make it.

At the same time, around 80,000 abortions are reported every month. Much more than half of those are by pill, so very early.

So the natural process ends 1000 times more pregnancies than the elective or emergency process.

On the order of 1 billion per year, automatic, v 1 million elective or emergency.

That’s 1000 times more natural endings — yet we are allowing zealots and idiots to tear our country apart over this.

It’s insane — which has been said before.

best luck to US, thanks for your great work! — b.rad

ps — This came to mind after we went to Sacramento to lobby for Reproductive Freedom ( too easy, everybody we talked to was on board, but always good to represent )

It's "in" to say women want control over their bodies. There is much more in danger than women's bodies. When men AND women are denied the right to plan their families their basic civil right to have control over the trajectory of their lives has been denied, There is no greater violation of civil rights, short of murder.

Next is ban on contraception and vasectomies. MAGA men, Catholics and Evangelical;s are salivating at controlling women, what they don't realize is that government can control women, control over men is next., and not just in sex. Stepping stones. abortion is one, IVF another monitoring of menstrual cycles the next, then on to control of male sexual activity, the Republic of Gilead .

I don't get it. How do Vance and Comstock advocates miss the heavy potential of women voting en masse just because of Roe, and promote advocation of these extra-draconian measures that would further inspire women to vote against their arcane agenda. What am I missing?
