Thom - thank you and yours for compiling and organizing this information. Bringing these background operations into the foreground is so imperative for people to get past the rhetoric. When they didn’t have enough support for their fabricated religious agenda just through radicalization, they went after the money. The transfer of tax payer funds slotted for public programs, and the general public at large, into narrow-minded, dishonest, extreme right-wing organizations is the same pattern happening in education and other parts of society. In education, the grift in K-12 has now shifted to focus on colleges and universities, heartbreakingly for some of us starting w New College in FL. They are robbing all of us, harming those in need and often hiding what they are doing w the money. Thank you, thank you for your tireless role in exposing this!

My experience of many years as a female physician providing gynaecological/obstetric care to young women supports everything in your column. Nothing “noble” about these lies—such behaviour disrespects women and manipulates them.

One more rotten lie: “We’ll take care of you”. In such a centre I was familiar with, young women were told that they would receive assistance with housing, income and job finding if they continued the pregnancy. It was a lie; young women with a newborn had to seek welfare and low-end housing. And yes, they were much more likely to stay with an abusive partner.

Wow, Thom this is definitely an eye opener article. I just read through an email from NARAL/Planned Parenthood basically about the upcoming decision to ban chemical abortion. It pretty much highlights some of the same points. The reality is that “conservatives” are the punishment party and proud of it. Punishment for anyone who disagrees with them, punishment for women who OMG have sex (except for producing white babies within marriage), punishment for working our entire life and paying into “entitlement programs “ then expecting a return on that money. How dare we women actually plan pregnancy and childbearing based on safe living conditions and income as well as medical support. How dare we expect livable wages and health care after the birth of our children or any support really. In my opinion the “conservative/Republican policies are an attempt to suppress any deviation from their fascist white ideology and return to a Father Knows Best fantasy world with white male dominance. The dark ages look mighty fine in the rear view mirror to these jack****.

As a male I wasn't aware of these places,, but when I saw the word "Crisis" I immediately thought of Fox "news" as that lie factory lives off of fears, emergencies and other negativities. Anyway, being pregnant is not as such a crisis, though in our profit-driven health care system for a person with no resources it certain can be. But sometimes these places are called "Pregnancy Resource Centers" or have some other benign name. So a woman carrying a fetus needs to be sure of where they are going for assistance. Unfortunately those with the least support are the most vulnerable to finding themselves in such places.

"Because CPCs do not provide medical care, they do not have to adhere to any medical or ethical standards, including HIPAA"

This is an amazing article. I found the above quote very interesting as it does seem easily remedied. They are obviously a fraudulent organization dispensing medical advice. If the definition of 'medical care' does not include an organization providing 'medical advice', that does seem an easy change to HIPPA and any other applicable standards. Obviously it would be contested up to the supremes but that should not stop from trying.

Great idea. Weirdly, at least in the psychology field, one is truly more beholden to ethics & professional boundaries if actually a licensed provider in the field. So there are restrictions on what terms you can use to refer to yourself, and certainly about what you should include AND what shouldn’t be included in examinations and treatment. But if not in the field, freedom of speech allows one to say some pretty wacky & untrue things. Still, they are taking money from taxpayers & giving to Christian Nationalist organizations, & crossing the line about giving medical advice, there’s got to be a way to stop this, at least the $ part of it.

Agree. It is one thing to tweet something outrageous (or simply propaganda) but another to be running a bogus medical advice business.

I do not disagree.

I step back and I see Tudor England redux. Just waiting for them to come out with a 21st Century version of Sumptuary Laws.

All of these right wing wingnuts, Hillary's basket of deplorables, Biden's MAGA Republicans, QANON, Militias, Proud Boys, Oath Keepers etc are well fed, well clothed, well paid, middle middle class, to upper middle class and they are being financed by the Upper Class..

Fools are like the dog catching the car. ahead for all is unintended consequences, the pit and shame is that they are dragging us with them.

If I were a nihilist, I would support the greed, the deforestation, the exploitation of resources and the rapid infuse of carbon dioxide and methane into the atmosphere, because that will accelerate human extinction. But I have grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren. So no I am not a nihilist, but then I have nothing to say, because ...unintended consequence of human ego, gullibility and greed.

ugh... yes, "noble" lie... is right up there with "noble" child abuse.

This tactic of lying is changing the trajectory of a lot of male lives too. Pro-lifers may be focused on the behavior of the girls and women, but unwanted children result in unanticipated child support, maybe 20-plus years of it. You don't need Maury, just a court order. Can you imagine that if you are just starting your work-life or college?

Organized religion will never be what it used to be, but it certainly still has a strangle-hold on this movement and a whole bunch of other lies. We indeed must pass on this information to everyone, especially our teens and young women and men.

Why would you call these noble lies. If they are untrue. They are bad information to get not what is best for the person or group of people but used to manipulate information to get the outcome they want.

What is a noble lie?
