I'd rather think it was suppression, and not that nearly 40% of adults in the US couldn't be bothered. There's an eventual, long-arc cure for voter suppression, but apathy is terminal.

40% is much less than the number of Americans who can't read above a 6th grade level; just sayin'.

The Republicans in red states use voter suppression and gerrymandering to win tightly contested election results. They have to cheat because their campaign platform does not benefit the majority of the American people. Because of this Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, or even if the Democrats had run Jesus Christ, would have a fair chance of winning the 2024 presidential election. With Trump, Musk, and Zuckerberg in complete charge of our news networks, it will be even more difficult to win the next election. To compound the issue, Republicans will use VOTER INTIMIDATION to keep people away from casting their ballot. It's the fear of being caught casting a ballot for the wrong candidate. It's a foregone conclusion that the supreme leader will always win the election in Russia or North Korea.

I hope that suppression can be addressed. That is a tall order especially in red states and still difficult in states like North Carolina and Georgia. Apathy is also a part of it. I know more that one person who didn't vote because they didn't think it made a difference.

This is interesting in that I voted early because I might be out of town when election day November 2024 rolled around. A few days before the election, I got a letter from my local county elections office saying there was a question about my address [I have lived inthe same place since 2009 when I was last registered to vote]. That same day, I went down to elections office with verifications, including a water bill that I pay in my name. I could tell that the staff person I dealt with was uncomfortable and said that everything was fine. And I live in Eureka, Humboldt County, California. This sounds like a nationwide movement. I know there is fairly large right wing movement in a certain part of the county and am wondering if they are picking on elderly Democratic voters. Be careful.

How Greg Palast was ignored is one of the weirdnesses of the phantasmagoria we're in. I never understood why 60 Minutes or the like ignored what could have changed the election results. Everyone who is steaming about that would enjoy how Greg shredded Elon Musk, again giving us more causes for outrage than are popularly understood.

Greg Palast takes off on Elon Musk. This will get your blood boiling.

This is what I have been saying. The narrative that 40% of Americans are ignorant and indifferent is mearly insulting people who were already injured by having their voting rights removed illegally. With all the intentionally created 'felons' who did crack instead of heroin and lost voting rights. Then all those purged from voting rolls because they had a similar name to a felon IN ANOTHER STATE! And those purged because the State decided they were dead or moved while they were in the same house for 20 years. Add blocking University Students living there for 4 to 6 years and anyone with a black first name. And of course not wanting to count mail in ballots often from the military. You also had lines for voting lasting 6 hours in Democratic Cities which some working people couldn't afford to navigate. And how about the Russian bomb threats which closed down voter counts in Democratic areas of Pennsylvania. I'm disappointed that Biden didn't use his imperial powers to investigate this burning trash dump of a election.

You are correct, Trump has had a staff of high priced lawyers preparing the ground for him. The Federalist Society and Heritage Foundation are not a group of jubilant frat boys.

Teump just issued an EO authorizing the miltary to assist the border patrol to stem the "invasion" of migrants.

Two key words assist and invasion. He has declared a national emergency to thwart the invasion, and he has employed the military to "assist" to get around the Posse Commitatus Act.

The Act stipulates that the military can't be employed against the citizenry, but it can be employed within the ConUs to repel an invasion.

About the only thing he overstepped is trying to negate birth right citiizenship, while a Washington State Judge has ruled against his EO, the case will be appealed up to SCOTUS and we know how that will turn out.

Eliminating birthright citizenship is the ultimate danger as it can be applied to anyone also they are pretending it only is for children of non citizens. There goes not only voting rights but all your rights guaranteed by the Constitution.

Here is an extract of the executive order. One category that is at risk are Native americans

But the Fourteenth Amendment has never been interpreted to extend citizenship universally to everyone born within the United States. The Fourteenth Amendment has always excluded from birthright citizenship persons who were born in the United States but not “subject to the jurisdiction thereof.” Consistent with this understanding, the Congress has further specified through legislation that “a person born in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof” is a national and citizen of the United States at birth, 8 U.S.C. 1401, generally mirroring the Fourteenth Amendment’s text.

Among the categories of individuals born in the United States and not subject to the jurisdiction thereof, the privilege of United States citizenship does not automatically extend to persons born in the United States: (1) when that person’s mother was unlawfully present in the United States and the father was not a United States citizen or lawful permanent resident at the time of said person’s birth, or (2) when that person’s mother’s presence in the United States at the time of said person’s birth was lawful but temporary (such as, but not limited to, visiting the United States under the auspices of the Visa Waiver Program or visiting on a student, work, or tourist visa) and the father was not a United States citizen or lawful permanent resident at the time of said person’s birth.

Sec. 2. Policy. (a) It is the policy of the United States that no department or agency of the United States government shall issue documents recognizing United States citizenship, or accept documents issued by State, local, or other governments or authorities purporting to recognize United States citizenship, to persons: (1) when that person’s mother was unlawfully present in the United States and the person’s father was not a United States citizen or lawful permanent resident at the time of said person’s birth, or (2) when that person’s mother’s presence in the United States was lawful but temporary, and the person’s father was not a United States citizen or lawful permanent resident at the time of said person’s birth.

(b) Subsection (a) of this section shall apply only to persons who are born within the United States after 30 days from the date of this order.

(c) Nothing in this order shall be construed to affect the entitlement of other individuals, including children of lawful permanent residents, to obtain documentation of their United States citizenship.

Sec. 3. Enforcement. (a) The Secretary of State, the Attorney General, the Secretary of Homeland Security, and the Commissioner of Social Security shall take all appropriate measures to ensure that the regulations and policies of their respective departments and agencies are consistent with this order, and that no officers, employees, or agents of their respective departments and agencies act, or forbear from acting, in any manner inconsistent with this order.

(b) The heads of all executive departments and agencies shall issue public guidance within 30 days of the date of this order regarding this order’s implementation with respect to their operations and activities.

Sec. 4. Definitions. As used in this order:

(a) “Mother” means the immediate female biological progenitor.

(b) “Father” means the immediate male biological progenitor.

Sec. 5. General Provisions. (a) Nothing in this order shall be construed to impair or otherwise affect:

(i) the authority granted by law to an executive department or agency, or the head thereof; or

(ii) the functions of the Director of the Office of Management and Budget relating to budgetary, administrative, or legislative proposals.

(b) This order shall be implemented consistent with applicable law and subject to the availability of appropriations.

(c) This order is not intended to, and does not, create any right or benefit, substantive or procedural, enforceable at law or in equity by any party against the United States, its departments, agencies, or entities, its officers, employees, or agents, or any other person.

A bit off topic, but chaos lurks again with the Democratic Party and their insistance to prevail as they have. Wikler is very, very busy continuing to continue the Democratic Party as it sadly has been. Pelosi maintains her clout to make sure that dissenting Dems--AOC. Bernie, et-- are continuously trivialized and lampooned. Have we at long last learned nothing? Wikler keeping the Dem Party as is only continues to keep the failed, compliant, sold-out gaggle of what was once an established real party at the hands of those who continue to get very rich by pretending they are doing anything otherwise. The Democratic Party is a corpse. All effort is needed to replace its shards and flotsom with a new, reconstructed entity that fights against the fascist MAGA Right, and not surrepticiously enabling it. The fascists could not have won without them. Demand a real Democratic Party, so that there can be two parties instead of one.

FLAKE NEWS BULLETIN

Melania Trump expressed her support for women’s rights by dressing as a suffragette for the 2025 inauguration.

Melania’s inaugural ball dress seemed a little unfinished since a trim piece was hanging loose. The dress was a hurried creation after Melania refused, at the last minute, to wear what Trump had ordered made for her—a copy of Princess Dianna’s famous “Revenge Dress.”
