The American Civil war was a mistake. We should have let them go. Slavery would have died a natural death as machines eliminated the need for human labor. Reconstruction instilled a permanent hatred of Northern states. Newt Gingrich ( a southern man) launched a plan 44 years ago to divide Congress and destroy the Washington D.C. government once and for all. It would seem he he may succeeded.

Believe it or not, Gingrich is actually a carpetbagger.

In the delta, there is still an onging form of slavery. In the south there is a "concurrent" liberal majority. Check out Hotlanta, Nashville, Memphis, etc.

IMHO we should have kept reconstruction.

I was personally involved in Reconstruction.... in Viet Nam. Same Idea, same results.

Bad analogy. I was there 1966-1967. They never had slavery. Didn't fight a war of insurrection. Didn't have Jim Crow.

After I came home I was in an Army of the occupation of the south, Ft. Jackson S.C. Our cities burned in 1968.

Naval advisory group 70-71. Teaching the South Vietnamese how to be independent of the Communist regime in the North. The regular people I dealt with weren't interested. Hence the comparison.
