Thom is correct. It's time to play hardball for our right to vote - all other issues are subordinate to this one: no choice = no voice.

Of all the "Hidden History" books Thom has written, "The Hidden History of the War on Voting" is the most enlightening and disturbing, in equal measure. There's never been a moment more imperative than right now - today - to read this book and share it.

I recently gave away three copies - 2 of which went to Democratic candidates and 1 to a DNC strategist.

Hardball. Register more Democrats -- save democracy.

It is past time. The time was when the election was stollen from Al Gore. We should be impeaching the Supreme court members who are corrupt to the gills, and not performing their jobs with credibilty.

Democrats certainly need to play hardball—but Texans face a fascist, corrupt state government that is quick to deploy armed police and guards. The only hope for Texans—and western states—is for climate change to finally push them to a point where they can no longer give up ground. It will be dystopic. Nebraska, Oklahoma, the Dakotas—they are all in the same boat with the fascists. Their state governors are even aligned and share state guards . . . And guess what? There is a push to put the son of a Libertarian Billionaire in the White House. Look for Pete Ricketts to lead this country into pure fascism in the not-so-distant future.

Additionally:

It's a mind-melting reality that the majority corruptionists who turned SCOTUS into SCAMUS agree that the following statement is true, wise, and logical:

Money is speech and thereby protected to the highest degree under the First Amendment.

Voting is NOT speech, and therefore is not entitled to any meaningful protections whatsoever.

I'm pretty sure if voting isn't speech, nothing is..

Dollar bills and coins = speech.

Telling the Gov't who you'd like to represent you = Not speech.

Here's another one I just heard: we are living in a country where appliances have more rights than women. I give you H.R. 1640, the Save Our Gas Stoves Act. If you are not familiar with the subject, please do some research on that bill.

The point is that there is no limit to how ruthless and predatory Republicans have become under the direction of the worst among them. It didn't start with Trump, but he has amplified what the Reagan/Gingrich crowd started.

Will the purge be off-set by the pissed-off women in this country? We can help make that happen; there has to be someone each of us can remind to check their registration. Voters need to know how much blood and treasure has been sacrificed for their right to vote. Show them Republicans want to destroy voters' rights as well as women's rights but are willing to protect guns and gas stoves.

Another fine Report Thom.

This is obscene. It’s par for the course for these shady Republicans.

They have corrupted every part

of our Democracy with their lying policies.

The Supreme Courts far right majority is out of control in following the edicts of their owners, Leonard Leo and the organizations who are controlling them with cash funneled through the Heritage Foundation and the Federalist Society. They are bought and paid for by far right wealthy Republicans who yearn for Authoritarianism

Make no mistake it’s approaching

Biden needs to make a point about this chronic Republican corruption every time he’s in front of a microphone.

Every other Democrat needs to call this out publicly and loudly.

And we are charged with informing people with this reality of Republican Corruption.

Voting laws must be clarified after removing every possible Republican from office.

There is a constant meme here that those that act against democracy have never been made to pay a cost for their known irresponsible actions. The Dems must find a way for those that act so have to pay a continuing price and shame. As such there is impotence and the leadership pay no price for corruption. Dems must overwhelm these actions and find ways for a price for corruption.

Why dems are sleeping and do not fight back? Maybe it is “not democracy” but they must play with the same (non) rules as their opponents. This is why they appear “weak” and this is why, as well, maga and morons vote for “strong” men. They hide their own failures by electing mob bosses who will get things done, although only in their imaginations. Maga folks are living in absurdistan, still believing his goddam orange liar and conman in chief. Pathetic. But clearly the end of democracy as we knew it. Get rid of scotus pdq! Tks

Flawriduh is #1 for disenfranchised voters with 1.5 million because of Felony conviction and/or debt repayments associated with the felony. The evil behind this is actually a holdover from Post Reconstruction and Jim Crow to prevent Blacks from ever having the right to vote. Even more nefarious is that it is next to impossible to find out just what one owes and how to pay it.

A felony conviction in Florida is akin to indentured servitude.

You underestimate the Trumpublican propensity for hypocrisy: Trumpublicans have suppressed voting, primarily in Democratic areas, but nonetheless scream "how they were being screwed by those nasty Dems".

I live in Texas and I am fed up with Abutt and his other criminals running the state. Mr. Hartmann, I sent your article to NPR and the NY Times. It needs national attention. Thanks for getting the word out.

First, the gop must get elected and will lie about anything, that is why Iam surprised anyone takes anything donald says seriously. When the cheap labor immigrants get hired before the gun toting, loving sadistic magas, Donald and the troops will take their guns also! They will be called communists and socialists, LMAO.

Biden must get elected. An issue fat people could get behind is lowering the cost of those new fat burning drugs that cost over 1k a month and only $56 a month in England. Biden needs to take those fat gop voters away from Trump, who could be already on them? God forbid, the man with dementia lives to rule another 20 years?

This whole article is so enraging I can hardly contain myself!!! What the fuck is wrong with this country? All the other democracies have figured this out so easily and we “the greatest country in the world” don’t have an absolute right to vote? I can’t stand it!!!!

Let me point out something about the Libertarian Fascists’ use of guns. The billionaires looking to overthrow this democracy aren’t just operating in the US. And, by now, people should realize an arm of the RNC has operated overseas for decades, working alongside Putin, in Eastern Europe. Specifically, “Arthur Friedberg’s Kids”: Manafort, Gates, Stone have been paid operatives of the RNC Fascists.

So now let’s look just to the south—the Caribbean, Mexico and Central America. The RNC Fascists are working to create unrest and overthrow those governments, too.

https://www.justsecurity.org/92714/american-autocracy-threat-tracker/

The only way to deal with the Libertarian Fascist Threat is for THIS GOVERNMENT to round up the fascist billionaires pulling the puppet strings of their INSTALLED puppets and charging them with sedition, insurrection and treason. We should seize their assets and dismantle the organized crime syndicate aka the RNC.
