You well perceive the complication of conflating political and social power with personal relationship dynamics. Of course, they interact. (Battered woman begging the DA to drop the charges because, of course, he has the higher-paying job...) You are a bit unspecific about your professional niche: I'll go out on a limb and speculate more M.D. psychiatrists are still male (higher paid) and I think it's almost notorious that "social workers" are more female and (of course) lower-paid. And teachers? Fugeddaboutit. Traditional woman's work: shit pay, regardless of gender balance now. As for how women are actually given credibility in whatever position; still a panoramic uphill battle, no matter credentials. You don't have to be "really stupid" or "toxic" to join with the boys, hardy-har, on the subject of the butt or "shrill voice" of the new lawyer or doctor in the building. Then you just don't quite listen to her when she has something to say. So the personal infiltrates the professional, and it's pretty cool that we're even thinking!
