True threat. I am aware of a particular faction blossoming in my area. County LE, member(s) of the state judiciary, senator(s), congressmen, radio hosts, the Dean of at least one educational institution, evangelical Christian organizations, some school board members, county clerk, and of course - an in-training militia - all seemingly coordinating as one. I wish I knew more specifics at this point, but I don't. And even if I did - who as an agency is trustworthy enough to report this to?

Remember the post-9/11 "see something, say something" hysteria? Well this time it's actually necessary. And this time we don't know who we can safely say something to.

Just a thought. Snail mail to FBI office in your state. I wouldn't sign it or return address it.

Good thought. Thank you.

AstroTurf militias are spawned and inspired with the incessant propaganda that always includes a generous dose of racism to get their attention (frighten and enrage them) and keep them hooked (satisfy that rage and their tribal urges). Militia “men” are manipulated (or otherwise coerced) into being the pawns that make sure the oligarchs can keep their plantations or whatever grift that they’re running. Has there ever been a white militia in America that wasn’t racist, and didn’t share the fear and hatred that the grifters conned them with? This is the same shit that caused the 2nd Amendment to be in the Constitution, and the same way the militias (sounds way better than slave patrols) were formed to enforce slavery. So, pretty much the same flimflam with 21st Century improvements for the grifter oligarchs to contract propagandists to convince our poorly educated to make shitty decisions that promote the welfare of the morbidly rich and eat away at our democracy. If only they knew that their real enemy is running a game on them, and we all have to pay for it.

Isn't this damned if you do or don't? I mentioned yesterday these folks have become targets of foreign influencers, and that situation just keeps growing the more they buy into the manipulation. Our outrage spurs them on, and worse, I'd say it actually turns them on. It is a power trip for a bunch of losers being jerked around by people overseas being paid to do that.

Of course this historic problem has always been with us, but the internet has made racists and crazies more cohesive. I think I would go with "damned if we do" and some new legislation for that very reason.

This needs to be put into context. Going back to the 1680 Insurrection Act in Virginia whereby any white man could stop and detain and punish any black person and where it was made illegal for black people (which in effect included Native Americans) to possess firearms. Policing of black slaves by white men became lawful and this formed the basis for the state militia and later the Ku Klux Klan.

Part of the problem today is that we have racist police departments and a racist Federal Bureau of Investigation and so agents and officers use personal discretion as to who to investigate, who to attack, and who to kill. More blacks are shot and killed each day in the United States by police officers than the total number of people shot in the United Kingdom in a year.

Ho do we deal with the claim that will be based on Amendment I of the Constitution: "Congress shall make no law respecting ... the right of the people peaceably to assemble..."

Actually, I suspect from comments by TV reporters that at the edges of many of the campaign rallies in 2020 for at least one party, there was more than just peaceful activity to keep reporters and others out. Does the word, "peaceable," lend itself to anything that can be enforced without destroying everyone's freedpom????

We should take a page out of Cracking the Code. These guys shouldn't be called militias. That's too "good" a term for them that they're so proud of wielding. We need something more derogatory that the public can associate them with. I remember back during the whole Cliven Bundy ordeal the terms "Y'all Queda" and "Vanilla ISIS" were born. Those were my favorite. I like Old Dave's "astroturf militia" too. Oh yeah, and let's not forget the Small Penis Gun Club... maybe it's a good time for Thom to resurrect that one.
