Wanted to comment on why I subscribed yesterday. You informed me about Zelensky's proposal for a U-24 organization, which seems like it would be a positive step forward for global relations. Wanted to comment on why I subscribed yesterday. You informed me about Zelensky's proposal for a U-24 organization, which seems like it would be a positive step forward for global relations. It would require the kind of "democratic" discussion you're talking about in today's report to make it work, but just the idea alone made me realize the need we face, post-war, for greater, more in-depth reporting. Such journalism should be a part of any new "U-24"-like impulse. Global citizens need to be better informed, especially in the area of politics and political leaders. Perhaps if we had better journalism (not corporately owned and influenced), and it was supported financially the way it deserves, we citizens would have arisen to demand the removal of such a despot before he made these fateful decisions that have turned everything upside down. I realized I need to put my money where my mouth is and support journalism, and your reports deserve such support. As a Canadian, I'm commenting from afar, but wondering if it may finally be time for a 3rd political party in the U.S.A.? One with some fresh, new ideas, and with politicians who actually want to serve the citizens for the good of all, rather than the interests of a few?
Investigative journalists are the unsung heroes trying to get the truth out under an avalanche of lies.
A parliamentary democracy like in Canada and around the world is superior to the American abortion -- in effect, a two-party/two-Senator/Electoral College/gerrymandered fcking nightmare. But until we change the guts of the Constitution (ain't never gonna happen), a third party in America, albeit knee-jerk popular, is actually a horrible idea after analyzing the legal and political implications in depth.
Bottom line: Take over the existing party! Why would small-d democrats want to weaken the only party with any realistic chance of thwarting the party of full-blown plutocracy/autocracy/kakistocracy?
...Amended to include the strong possibility of third parties surviving without trying to solve the problem of post-democracy on the national level by screwing too much with the Constitution: states, counties, and cities adopt "rank-choice voting" across the red-blue boundaries. It's an awesome loophole to fix one of the main glitches, which is under-representation.
Yeah, it was called the Green Party. Ballot qualified in quite a few states. But when election time comes around, the clarion call is "Don't waste your vote!" I take sad note of Thom reporting on the harm done by Bill Clinton in multiple contexts lately. Especially in retrospect, it's real hard to distinguish Clinton as the "lesser" evil. Evil with supposed charm. I "wasted" my vote, not voting for President Hillary, because of her cynical, pandering Senatorial votes to invade Iraq. But I was in California, and I have wondered ever since, what if I'd been in a close state?

Proven yet again: a third party is a nice pipedream... but that's all it is. Sady.
