I consider myself definitely, positively feminist, and I am having a problem with the "peaceful, conciliatory nature" meme. If Susan B. Anthony, not to mention an endless list of sisters down through history, had taken on the "peaceful, conciliatory" stereotype, not only would you be looking at "Stepford Wives," but the obstreperous, relentless force of women would never have contributed to the Underground Railroad and Emancipation, not to mention hanging in there with refusing peace and conciliation in order to be recognized as human enough to vote!
